FIG TREE CAFE OPENS IN DOWNTOWN
Mayor Day Elected as ATL Board Representative The District #9 ATL Transit Link Committee selected Jonesboro Mayor Joy B. Day as the District Board Member. Twelve Mayors from Henry, DeKalb, and Clayton County make up the District 9 committee as outlined by the ATL Transit Link Legislation. The inaugural meeting of the District 9 committee was held in Stockbridge, the geographical center of District 9 with Stockbridge Mayor Anthony Ford presiding. The new 13 county ATL Transit Link System will replace MARTA as the regional transit coordinating arm for the region.
Located at 126 South Main Street in the heart of Jonesboro, the Fig Tree Café opened its doors officially on September 17. Café hours are 7 a.m.—7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The building has undergone a complete renovation. Featured specialties will include made-fresh daily (on the premises) pastries and croissants. Also on the menu are a variety of coffees, salads, fresh fruit, and sandwiches. Plan your next dining experience at the Fig Tree Café, owned and operated by Jonesboro First Baptist Church. Thanks to Councilmember Pat Sebo, a brand new drum set was presented to the K.R. Pace School of the Arts on behalf of the City. The drum set was donated by Dustin & Nikki MacLean of Mechanicsville, Maryland, friends of Ms. Sebo and nephew (Dustin) of Darryl Hand of Jonesboro. The MacLeans make custom drums for professional drummers. Pictured above is the Pace School Band and (front row) Ricky Clark, City Manager, Pat Sebo, Principal Donna Jackson and Mayor Joy Day. The 2018 Georgia General Assembly passed SB 17 allowing counties and cities to authorize the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, thus the term “Brunch Bill.” [Alcohol sales are already permitted from 12:01 pm-2:00 a.m. on Sunday] Approval must be by referendum. The question will appear as follows: “Shall the governing body of the City of Jonesboro, Georgia be authorized to permit and regulate Sunday sales of distilled spirits or alcoholic beverages for beverage purposes by the drink from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.? Voters will mark Yes or No.
