STATEWIDEDRIVING ROADEOINCHEROKEE

On Saturday, April 26, two High Point Transit System employees participated in the 2025 North Carolina Public Transportation Association's Transit Operator Driving Roadeo in Cherokee, North Carolina. Brenda Bolton, a Paratransit Operator with the City for fifteen years, participated in the 22-foot Light Transit Vehicle competition. Glenese Moore, a Fixed Route Operator with the City for nine years, joined in the 35-foot Transit Bus competition. They competed against 90 other transit operators from across the state.

The annual NCPTA Roadeo is designed to be a competitive test and measure of an LTV or Transit Bus Operator's skill behind the wheel, knowledge of safe driving practices, and familiarity with the vehicles and equipment used in the daily operation of public transportation.

The operators maneuver a car through a timed course constructed of specific obstacles simulating everyday situations they may encounter in a regular transit service environment. The operators will also be scored on safety habits and smoothness of operation during the driving test.

At the competition's end was an awards dinner and celebration. Awards included a first through fifth-place individual finish in each of the two (2) vehicle categories. In addition to the trophy awards, the individual finishers in each of the two (2) vehicle categories received cash prizes of $500, $250, $100, $50, and $25, respectively!

Congratulations to Brenda who took a PODIUM position and finished 2nd place for the entire State of North Carolina!!

COMMUNITY UNITES FOR A CLEANER FUTURE AT THE GREATEST AMERICAN CLEANUP ON APRIL 5

The event included a prize drawing for all volunteers. City of High Point employee winners include Larry Morrison, EastsideWastewater Treatment Plant; Audrey McCook, High Point Public Library; Melvin Jones, Stormwater; and Brooke Martin, at the High Point Museum. The Greatest American Cleanup was held on Saturday, April 5. 342 people volunteered, removing approximately 5,700 pounds of trash, debris, and tires from roadways, waterways, school campuses, and the Greenway. Volunteers also donated over 275 nonperishable food items to be given to a local food pantry.

Many thanks to Blue Ridge Companies for providing the Visa gift cards!

THE 2025 HIGH POINT FARMERS MARKET SEASON HAS BEGUN!!

Saturday, April 26, was the 2025 High Point Farmers Market season kickoff. There was excellent attendance and a wide selection of local produce, baked goods, and craft vendors.

The Farmers Market season will include several recipe contests, live music, cooking demonstrations, kids' activities, and information about community partners. We're also pleased that the Youth Craft Market will be returning on the first Saturday of the month from May to August.

The High Point Farmers Market is a SNAP-certified Market, and EBT cards are accepted at the Farmers Market table. The Market also offers a Double the Bucks program, whereby SNAP customers receive twice the value of their EBT charge in Farmers Market tokens. Double the Bucks is made possible by a generous donation from Bethany Medical and the Lenny Peters Foundation. Guilford Community Cares Network clients may use their orange cards at the Market to receive $15 in fresh produce each Saturday.

We are looking forward to a successful season to support the greater High Point community. The High Point Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through October 25.

If you have questions about the sensory garden, please get in touch with Farmers Market Manager Lee Gann at 336.689.4463.

YEARATSTATE EQUIPMENTRODEO

For the second year in a row, our talented Public Services team put their skills to the test at the state equipment rodeo and once again, they delivered outstanding results! This year, Tyler Long took first place in the backhoe and mini excavator events, while Rocky Jenkins earned second in the mini excavator category. Chris Lawson and Curtis Crisco also placed impressively in their events.

A huge congratulations to our exceptional operators for bringing home the hardware and making us proud. Next stop: the national competition!

PARKRANGERM.MILOROHONOREDWITH DIVISIONALCOMMENDATIONBYHIGHPOINT POLICEDEPARTMENT

Please help us congratulate and thank High Point Park Ranger M. Miloro (left), who recently received a divisional commendation from the High Point Police Department. (shown with Major R. Juren, right, HPPD)

Ranger Miloro was awarded the commendation for his work with the "Angels in Blue" program, which helps make Christmas a little brighter for selected local families experiencing financial constraints during the holidays.

Ranger Miloro not only volunteered his time with Angels in Blue but also found additional sponsors and donors who contributed to this great program so it could serve more people in need.

We thank Ranger M. Miloro for his dedication to making our parks a safer place for everyone to enjoy and for his compassion and generosity in always wanting to help those in need in our community. We are lucky to have him as part of our team! We are also very appreciative of the ongoing support and partnership with our police department and High Point 911, and the many ways we work together every day.

AthletesShineatGuilford/HighPointSpecial OlympicsTrack&FieldDay

Guilford/High Point Special Olympics celebrated Track & Field Day on April 22, with athlete participation from 18 area schools and 90 volunteers there to support and cheer them on!

Also, in attendance providing support: the High Point Fire Department and the Park Rangers from High Point Parks & Recreation! Representatives from both groups ran with the athletes in the event's Torch Run, and Fire was there to provide medical support as needed as well.

Community partnerships are what makes this event work, and we extend our special thanks, as always to the first responder communities, and to all those who made this day such a resounding success for these dedicated athletes.
