To the Healdsburg Community, As we reach the end of the year, I’m pleased to share that 2023 was busy and successful for your City government. Looking back on our many shared accomplishments, I consider the following to be some of the highlights of the past year. We broke ground last month on a new fire substation on Healdsburg Avenue north of Parkland Farms. (See a progress update later in this report) We celebrated the opening of the Randall Apartments at the Mill District, providing affordable housing for 41 households. We also continued to make progress planning for more workforce housing at 155 Dry Creek and Saggio Hills. In our ongoing efforts to address homelessness, we continued operation of the L&M Village interim housing site. A Sonoma County census found that homelessness in Healdsburg was reduced by 66% compared to the previous year. In October, the City Council adopted Healdsburg’s first Climate Mobilization Strategy, creating an action plan of tangible and achievable steps the City can take to do our part in addressing the climate crisis. In August, we broke ground on major improvements to the trail access and dog park at the Fitch Mountain Open Space Preserve. We’re excited to celebrate the completion of this work in the spring. Earlier this year, the City completed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan, providing a roadmap for ensuring that we engage and serve all members of our community while celebrating our diversity and rich cultures.
Looking forward, 2024 promises to be equally productive. At this coming Monday’s City Council meeting, we expect to hit major milestones for the Foley Family Community Pavilion at 3 North Street and the expansion of a recycled water pipeline into several parts of the City. Both projects will be under construction in the coming months. I am grateful to be part of an exceptional team of public servants that gets to serve a community that is engaged and committed to making Healdsburg an amazing place to live. WINTER SHELTER As winter approaches, the City of Healdsburg, in collaboration with our program partner Reach for Home, is ready to provide support during extreme cold weather. Our emergency cold weather shelter will be operational under specific conditions, as detailed below. Criteria for Shelter Activation: The shelter will open based on the following weather conditions:
Overnight temperatures below 32 degrees for three consecutive days or more. Average nighttime temperatures below 37 degrees for two consecutive days, with accompanying hazardous conditions. Cold-related warnings issued by the National Weather Service, including freeze, cold, or frost advisories.
Overnight temperatures dropping below 28 degrees for two consecutive days. FOSS CREEK PATHWAY LIGHTS Last Friday, Parks staff were informed that several sections of the Foss Creek Pathway lights were non-operational. Staff investigated the situation and quickly determined the issue was the result of vandalism. City Staff are actively working to address the situation. We anticipate that the majority of the lighting issues will be resolved by early next week.
FIRE SUBSTATION UPDATE
The concrete slab for the main building was poured this week. The wall framing, truss installation, and roof sheathing are expected to be complete by mid-January. The project is moving right along and we can’t wait to see it finished!
