CELEBRATING A SUCCESSFUL FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS DISPLAY The City of Fort Bragg extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this Fourth of July weekend, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence, a safe, vibrant, and memorable celebration for our community. This historic milestone brought incredible energy to our city. Our downtown was filled with residents and visitors enjoying the festivities, supporting local businesses, and celebrating together. The strong turnout provided a welcome boost to the local economy, and it is an honor that people choose to travel from all over to celebrate right here in Fort Bragg year after year. The tremendous efforts of our City staff to pull off such a spectacular celebration, are deeply appriciated. The Fort Bragg Police Department, Fort Bragg Volunteer Fire Department, Public Works, Community Development, Finance, Administration, Parks and Recreation, and all City departments worked tirelessly to prepare for and support this busy holiday weekend. Many employees put in long hours behind the scenes to ensure safety, cleanliness, and smooth operations throughout our community. Their dedication is a reflection of the pride we take in serving Fort Bragg. We also extend our appreciation to our regional partners and emergency responders, including the City of Ukiah Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Mendocino County Sheriff, Mendocino County Probation, California State Parks Foundation, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Collaboration from these agencies, along with local businesses, volunteers, and community organizations, played a vital role in the success of the weekend. A special thank‑you goes to everyone who participated in Sunday’s beach cleanup. Your efforts to restore and care for our coastline after a busy holiday weekend highlight the community spirit that makes Fort Bragg such a special place. Thank you to everyone who celebrated responsibly, supported local businesses, and helped create a memorable 250th anniversary celebration. We look forward to continuing this cherished tradition with you for years to come.

LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: ANCHOR & GRIND

Fort Bragg’s newest home away from home, Anchor and Grind, is bringing fresh energy to the corner of Franklin and Redwood Avenue. This inviting mercantile, soon to be a full coffee shop, is the creation of Dawn and Kelley, best friends of twenty years whose shared creativity and trust led them to take a leap of faith at exactly the right moment. Together, they have built a warm and inclusive gathering place where locals of all ages will be able to enjoy handcrafted coffee, pastries, curated goods, thoughtful conversation, and a cozy lounge filled with treasures and daily necessities they saw missing from Fort Bragg’s shopping options. Their journey to Fort Bragg was shaped by both friendship and change. Dawn spent many years as a fifth grade teacher, and Kelley worked in video games and publishing before running her yarn and coffee shop Intertwined in Pacifica. Their bond grew through the Bay Area music scene as members of Erin Brazill and The Brazillionaires, and their performances in Fort Bragg always made the community feel like home. After Kelley’s husband Tony passed away and Dawn prepared to retire, the two knew it was time for a new chapter. In July 2025, they followed that instinct and made Fort Bragg their home. The name Anchor and Grind reflects their shared path, inspired by the grounding anchor they needed during life’s transitions and the daily grind of hard work and good coffee. Their mercantile opened two weeks ago and is already filled with carefully selected goods from around the world, Spanish language children’s books chosen by Dawn, and handmade soaps, beard oil, candles, and room sprays crafted in house. Every detail reflects collaboration and intention, with their friendship remaining the center of the business. In November, they opened their first smaller coffee stand on Main Street, and their larger mercantile is only one permit away from serving their signature coffee as well. They emphasize that Anchor and Grind is purposely low tech, offering a place where people can slow down, talk, create, and connect. Anchor and Grind is more than a business. It is a shared dream, a new chapter, and a heartfelt offering to Fort Bragg from two longtime friends who have found a beautiful life here. Stop by for coffee, pastries, a good book, a thoughtful gift, or a quiet moment in the lounge. You will feel the warmth and care the moment you walk in.

What have we done? PUBLIC SAFETY

PUBLIC SAFETY PROJECT RIGHT NOW YOUTH DROP-IN CENTER:

Project Right Now (PRN) is preparing to open its new Youth Drop-In Center this August at the C.V. Starr Community Center. Throughout the month, PRN staff have been working to create a safe, welcoming, and comfortable space where youth ages 15–24 can spend time, connect with trusted adults, and access resources and support in a judgment-free environment. The center will offer a variety of services and resources, including recovery and support groups, hygiene kits and basic needs, interview and work clothing, career resources and resume assistance, mental health support, computer access, and more. The goal is to provide local youth with a welcoming place to connect, build skills, access support, and find opportunities that promote their well-being, personal growth, and future goals.

PUBLIC SAFETY VOLUNTEERS IN POLICE SERVICES

PUBLIC SAFETY JULY 4TH WEEKEND

This month, the Fort Bragg Police Department joined City staff, local organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community partners in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a weekend filled with community events, local traditions, and activities for residents and visitors. The holiday weekend featured something for everyone, from the craft fair and salmon barbecue to the annual fireworks celebration, bringing people together from throughout the community to enjoy the festivities and celebrate Independence Day. Behind the scenes, City and Police Department staff worked throughout the weekend to help coordinate events, manage traffic and parking, support public safety efforts, and ensure that residents and visitors could enjoy the celebrations safely. The Police Department also worked closely with City staff and event organizers to help address the unique challenges that come with large community events and the increased number of visitors during the holiday weekend. The celebrations provided a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, support local organizations and businesses, enjoy long-standing Fort Bragg traditions, and create new memories with family and friends. We are grateful to all of the City staff, public safety personnel, volunteers, community partners, local businesses, and residents who contributed their time and effort to making the weekend a success. Most importantly, we appreciate everyone who came out to celebrate and helped make the 4th of July weekend a safe, enjoyable, and memorable celebration for our community.
