COUNCIL WRAP-UP MEETING DATE: AUGUST 4, 2026
RECREATION FACILITY DISCUSSION MOVES FORWARD
City Council approved a motion directing staff to prepare a recreation facility proposition for the November 2026 ballot and to call a special meeting on August 11 to consider an ordinance calling the election. To help meet the community's growing recreational needs, the City has discussed the potential for a public-private partnership, such as with the YMCA, to develop a recreation facility. If the City Council approves the election ordinance, Forney residents will have the opportunity to vote on the proposal in November. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
EMS CONTRACT APPROVED
City Council approved a new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agreement with CareFlite Ambulance Service. The agreement establishes operational, financial, and performance standards designed to provide reliable ambulance service, maintain high-quality patient care, and strengthen coordination between CareFlite and the Forney Fire Department. The contract is the result of several months of negotiations following Council direction in December 2025.
ATMOS ENERGY RATE SETTLEMENT APPROVED
City Council approved a negotiated settlement with Atmos Energy through the Atmos Cities Steering Committee (ACSC), a coalition of more than 180 Texas cities that works together to review and negotiate natural gas rate requests on behalf of residents. Atmos Energy initially requested a larger system-wide rate increase, but through the negotiation process, the coalition reduced that request by approximately $30 million before reaching a settlement. By participating in the ACSC, Forney helps ensure utility rate requests receive an independent review and are negotiated to help lessen the impact on customers while supporting continued investment in the natural gas system. The new rates are scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.
CYBERSECURITY CONTRACT APPROVED
City Council approved a three-year agreement to enhance the City's cybersecurity protections at a cost not to exceed $68,303.95 annually. The investment will strengthen the City's ability to protect critical systems and sensitive data from evolving cyber threats while supporting the reliable delivery of City services.
