COUNCIL WRAP-UP MEETING DATE: APRIL 7TH, 2026

POTENTIAL YMCA DEVELOPMENT PRESENTED

During the April 7th City Council meeting, YMCA representatives shared information about a potential future development on the north side of Forney, near the intersection of Reeder Road and Ridgecrest Road. The project could include a YMCA facility and could also include a public library. The development could create additional space for child, youth, and adult programs and help meet a growing need for recreational and community services in Forney. A potential public-private partnership could potentially help offset costs, aligning with information presented to Council during the February 3rd City Council meeting when the Northside Park Master Plan was approved. The project is still in the early planning stages, with next steps to be discussed at future City Council meetings.

STREET MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Public Works Director Kyle Groves presented the planned street maintenance program, outlining upcoming improvements across multiple roadways throughout the city. Planned projects include portions of Mulberry Street, Oak Street, Burgett Street, and N. McGraw Street, along with several concrete street segments such as Trailhouse Lane and Magnolia Street. Mr. Groves also provided an overview of how streets are selected for maintenance, which includes evaluating Overall Condition Index (OCI) scores, traffic volume and road classification, and coordination with other infrastructure projects. Additionally, he shared a breakdown of roadway conditions across the system and noted that some future projects are currently on hold due to ongoing drainage, sewer, and water line improvements.

CITY COUNCIL APPROVES CONCRETE MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT

City Council also approved an annual price agreement for concrete maintenance with MB Concrete Construction, Inc. This agreement allows the City to perform concrete repairs and improvements on an asneeded basis using a fixed pricing structure. MB was selected based on best overall value, including strong qualifications, competitive pricing, and a proven track record of quality work and reliability with the City.

STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR GET FIRED UP FOR READING PROGRAM

Fire Chief John Holcomb, in conjunction with Forney ISD, presented an update on the 5th Annual Get Fired Up for Reading program. This year, students read more than 5.2 million minutes, with selected winners recognized and awarded bicycles donated by Walmart. Congratulations to our winners: Sheya, Flynn, Carleigh, Arlowe, Brooklyn, Cooper, Amberleigh, Caroline, Ivan, Landon, Aurora, and Marcus. This is an outstanding achievement by all. City Council will meet for a Special Budget Strategy Meeting on April 14th.
