The Patrol Division serves as the foundation of the Edmond Police Department and is often the first point of contact between the department and the community. Patrol officers respond to calls for service, enforce traffic and criminal laws, conduct preliminary investigations, and proactively address public safety concerns throughout the city. Through visible patrol, community engagement, and rapid response to emergencies, the division plays a vital role in protecting life and property while maintaining publicpeaceandsafety.

The Traffic Unit consists of six officers dedicated to improving roadway safety through traffic enforcement, crash investigation, and public education. The unit focuses on reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities by addressing hazardous driving behaviors, responding to serious collisions, and working proactively to keep Edmond'sstreetssafeforresidentsandvisitors.

In 2025, the Edmond Police fleet team restored a 1941 Ford to match an original Edmond police vehicle. The vintage patrol car now appears at parades, community events, and school functions, helpingpreservethedepartment'shistorywhileconnectingwiththecommunity.

Held on the second Tuesday of even-numbered months, at coffee shops around town, the Edmond Police Department’s Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and community members together throughout the year for casual conversations over coffee. With no presentations or formal agenda, residents can ask questions, share concerns,andgettoknowtheofficerswhoservetheircommunityin arelaxedandwelcomingenvironment.

The Edmond Police Department proudly participates in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), a year-round partnership supporting Special Olympics Oklahoma. The year of fundraising kicks off with the Polar Plunge, followed by events such as Tip-A-Cop, Bagging with Badges, and
During the Oklahoma City Thunder's 2025 playoff run and championship season, Edmond Police officers presented the colors at select playoff games and later assisted with security and crowd control during the Parade of Champions in downtown Oklahoma City.
The division is commanded by a Major and supported by a Captain, three Lieutenants, seventeen Detectives, three civilian Technical Investigators, two Digital Forensic Examiners, and one Administrative Specialist. Through a collaborative approach and the integration of advanced investigative techniques and technology, CID delivers thorough, timely, and high-quality investigative services.
Accredited by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Hazardous responds to incidents involving explosive and incendiary devices, including IEDs, suspicious packages, commercial explosives, and military ordnance. Team
performs hazard mitigation at Arcadia Lake, and provides public assistance whenneeded.
Comprised of ten certified divers, the teamistrainedtooperateinchallenging environments while supporting both investigative objectives and public safetymissions.

The Professional Responsibility Division is responsible for ensuring accountability, professionalism, and compliance with department policies and standards. The division oversees internal investigations, reviews complaints, coordinates training, and monitors adherence to established procedures. Through its commitment to transparency, integrity, and continuous improvement,thedivisionhelpsmaintainpublictrust andsupportsthedepartment'smissionandvalues.
BlueTeamReport is the department’s administrative reporting system used to document and review incidents that require supervisoryoversight.Thesystemtracksavarietyofpersonneland operational matters, including citizen complaints, commendations, use-of-force incidents, vehicle pursuits, collisions, and policyrelated concerns. By providing a standardized process for review andaccountability,BlueTeamhelpsensuretransparency, compliancewithdepartmentalpolicies, andconsistentprofessionalstandards acrosstheorganization.
The Edmond Police Training Unit oversees a 21-week police academy that prepares recruits for the demands of modern law enforcement. Through a combination of classroom instruction, practical exercises, physical training, and scenario-based learning, recruits develop the knowledge, skills, and professionalism expected of Edmond police officers. Training includes criminal law, patrol procedures, firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and community policing, providingastrongfoundationforacareerinpublicsafety.
In his role as Crime Prevention and Community Relations Officer, Sgt. Randy Payne works to strengthen the partnership between the Edmond Police Department and the community through outreach, education, and collaborative crime prevention efforts. He represents the department at community events, oversees the Citizens Police Academy, and builds partnerships with area organizations and businesses to promotecrimepreventionandpublicsafety.

Edmond Animal Services operates the Edmond Animal Shelter and responds to animal-related calls for service throughout the community. The division provides care for stray, lost, and surrendered animals while working to reunite pets with their owners and place adoptable animals into new homes.

The Peer Support Team providessupport,mentorship,and encouragementtoemployeesthroughcriticalincidents,wellness andfitnessgoals,professionaldevelopment,andeveryday challenges,helpingfosteracultureofresilienceandwell-being.
Eachholidayseason,theEdmondPoliceDepartment’s Cops & Kids programhelpsbringChristmasjoytolocalfamilies.Inpartnership withtheHopeCenterofEdmond,familiesinneedareidentifiedand invitedtoparticipate.Thankstoyear-roundfundraisingbythe EdmondFraternalOrderofPolice,eachchildreceivesfunds toshopforChristmasgifts.Inmid-December,familiesmeet officersatWalmartforaspecialshoppingexperience, wherechildrencanchoosegiftsforthemselvesorothers whilespendingtimewithEdmondpoliceofficers.
