Helpful Information
Refunds
Full refunds may be requested three business days prior to the start of a program/season. Refunds requested within three business days prior to the start of a program/season may offer the potential for proration or a full refund. Registrations paid in cash or check will be refunded in the form of an RecTrac credit or City check; City check may take up to 30 days. Registrations paid with credit will be refunded via a personal credit refund or an RecTrac credit. The service fees and scholarships will remain nonrefundable.
Satisfaction Policy: Patrons may request a refund at any time after the start of a program if they are unhappy with it. These must be submitted in writing or email and sent directly to the appropriate supervisor. The type of program will determine the amount of refund provided (this may be adjusted due to pre-advertised supplies purchased, etc.).
Accessibility
The Parks and Recreation Department believes that all individuals should be provided with accessible recreation opportunities. Upon request during registration, individuals with disabilities will be provided accommodations and/or one-on-one support to better assist in program participation. There is no additional cost to the registrant for this service. For more information contact Janna Beau at 563-589-4315.
Volunteering
The Parks and Recreation Department is always seeking help in providing improved services to the community. If you have a desire to volunteer time to assist with a program or clean a park, or would like to donate a tree or provide materials or money to improve a certain facility, please contact the office at 563-589-4263.
Public Transportation
The Jule provides public transportation to bus stops near many parks and recreation facilities including Flora and Sutton Pools, Carnegie-Stout Public Library, the Multicultural Family Center, Comiskey Park, and many others.
Youth ages 6-18 ride for FREE if they are able to show a school ID card. If not, it’s only $1 per year to purchase a swipe card! Kids under 5 should be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
Passes can be picked up at The Jule Intermodal Center (950 Elm St.) and City Hall (50 West 13th St.) during regular business hours. For additional information, including route and schedule information, visit www.JuleTransit.org or call 563.589.4196.

How to Register
Create a RecTrac Account
RecTrac is our online registration system. If you haven't created an account yet, setting it up in advance will save you time when you go to register for classes, programs, activities, swim lessons, etc. Get started now and create your account today!
Step 1: Go to www.cityofdubuque.org/letsgo and click “SIGN IN / REGISTER” on the top right corner.
Step 2: Click “Don’t have an account? Sign Up Now” under the RecTrac Login box.
Step 3: Complete the “Create New Household” form. The required fields are in red. If applicable, don’t forget to add your family members by clicking the blue “Add New Member” box. When finished, click the green “Save” button at the bottom of the form.
Step 4: Explore the RecTrac registration system! You can type in keywords, filter by age, type of program, months, recreation categories, locations, days of the week, season, and more! For questions, contact the Parks and Recreation office at 563-589-4263.

• First-year lifeguards are paid $16.44 per hour

Lifeguard Certification
The lifeguard certification training course includes online coursework and one day of in-person training and testing.
In-Person Training & Testing
Through videos, group discussion, and handson practice you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED, and other skills you need to work as a lifeguard. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in lifeguarding. Note, you must be at least 15 years of age and pass certain swimming requirements.
In-person training sessions will be held from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Loras College San Jose Pool. Choose one of the following:

A lifeguard job is rarely solo. You are a part of team! Since lifeguard jobs require collaboration, it’s easy to get to know one another. Nothing forges a bond quite like ensuring safety and saving lives! Lifeguarding is a great chance to build lifelong friendships.

One of the most rewarding feelings of being a lifeguard is knowing that you have helped someone. Whether that be during a save, providing first aid, or customer service, helping others is what lifeguards do. When you work as a lifeguard, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you will actively make an impact in your community.
Learn How To Save Lives
You will be trained in water rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving skills. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a first responder or medical professional lifeguarding will help you gain great experience. If not, these skills are practical throughout life, and no one knows when they might be necessary.

Want to learn how to play the ukulele? Join librarian Ben to work on chords, exercises, and songs all geared toward beginners. If you are brand new to the instrument consider arriving early for help with tuning your uke.

Forces for Good: Abolitionists in the Old Lead Mine Region
Slavery was an entrenched institution in the Old Lead Mine Region of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. This presentation by Tracey Lee Roberts, Senior Lecturer (Emeritus) of History from the University of WisconsinPlatteville, will outline the many forces for good that pushed back against this brutal, inhuman practice. Local historical images, early maps, and stories about Dubuque abolitionists will be emphasized. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

Calling all artists (and those who would like to be an artist)! What do polar bears, skunks, chocolates, blackberries, black holes, shadows and sunglasses all have in common? We will recreate these images using black beans and our imaginations. Bring on the masterpieces!
Do you know your ABCs? Prove it in the children’s department of the library with a super-sized scavenger hunt! Search for all 26 animal-themed alphabet letters hidden throughout the Children’s Department. Find them all to earn a small prize.
St Patrick's Day is just around the corner, so come create a shamrock decoration with tissue paper so that you always have something green with you.
Celebrate National Hobby Month at the Library!

Want to dive into a new hobby without investing a lot of money? Join us for our Hobby Fair & Craft Supply Swap—a fun, communitydriven celebration of creativity and inspiration. During this 2-hour fair, you can browse tables hosted by community members excited to share their passions. Whether it’s cooking, sewing, jewelry making, collecting, puzzles, or something completely unexpected—this is your chance to explore new interests and connect with others who love what they do. There will be no sales, just an enthusiastic exchange of ideas, information, and creativity.
If you’d like to host a table and highlight your own hobby, please register by Friday, Feb. 6, by picking up an application at the Children’s Recommendations Help Desk. The Hobby Fair will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 1 - 3 p.m.
To help participants try something new, the library is also collecting unused or gently-used craft supplies. Donate supplies at the Recommendations Desk or Children’s Desk between February 1 - 12. Come discover something new, share what you love, and join us in celebrating the joy of hobbies.

Yoga can be for everyone, no matter what age you are! To celebrate International Kids’ Yoga Day, we have The Well Yoga Dubuque coming to teach yoga, breathing, and other important information to kids for self-care. Families are encouraged to attend together.
Get ready to laugh! Kids will explore silly, kid-safe prank ideas and create a few playful tricks of their own—just in time for April Fool’s Day. Join us for a fun, imaginative session full of giggles and good-natured mischief.

This free reading program encourages families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. The TumbleBook Library is an online collection of animated, talking picture books that help teach children the joys of reading in a format they’ll love. You’ll also find read-along books, language learning books, and educational games and puzzles. Access to this resource is open to all, no library card required. Library Maker Space
Become a Certified Maker
A Certified Maker is any member of the community who is certified to work independently in the Maker Space. Read the rules and sign the waiver, it’s that easy! Maker Space staff are always available to teach you how to use the equipment and assist you with your project. Visit the Maker Space often to see what’s new and gather ideas for your own projects.
Take & Make Kits
Maker Space Take & Make Kits are back! New kits are available every Monday and feature a new project to keep your crafting skills sharp. Available while supplies last. Limit 1 kit per person. Check our Events Calendar for more details.
Don’t Just Make It…Sublimate It!
Create custom gifts for your friends and family! Take any photo, phrase, or your own design and print it out using our Epson sublimation printer. Our Master Makers will then show you how to apply your design to sublimation blanks using the heat press. The Maker Space offers a wide variety of sublimation blanks including mugs, tumblers, key chains, koozies, and so much more ranging in price from $1 to $9.
Laser Cutting & Engraving
Cut or engrave custom shapes and designs on glass, leather, acrylic, and wood with a state-of-theart laser or a desktop CNC machine. Purchase materials for cutting/engraving from the Maker Space or bring in your own.
CrafterNoon Adventures
Feeling creative but have no idea where to begin? Browse through the CrafterNoon Adventures binder that has projects for all ages and abilities that you can make and take in under an hour. Each project includes photos and complete instructions and range from simple to moderately complex.
Dubuque Winter Fun
Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is allowed in any of Dubuque’s parks or along the City’s trail systems when areas are completely covered with snow. Popular locations include Eagle Point Park and Bunker Hill Golf Course.
Bunker Hill Golf Course requires a minimum of three inches of snow cover and it is requested that tees and greens not be used. Tees are level, rectangular areas with wooden posts nearby, and greens are level, circular areas which are susceptible to snow compaction damage. Specific trails are not groomed, so come be the first to create a new trek! Crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing is available from sunrise to sunset.
Ice Skating
Dubuque’s outdoor ice skating rink is located at the corner of N. Grandview Ave. and Loras Blvd. It is equipped with two goals for hockey games, but can also be enjoyed for free skating. This rink is unsupervised and available to groups or individuals on a first-come, first-served basis. The rink is open daily when temperatures permit from 9 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. and lights are available from 4 - 9:30 p.m. The light switch is located on a gray electrical utility box along Nowata St. No restroom facilities are available.
Public skating is available at the indoor rink at ImOn Arena. Admission is $10 per hour per skater. For more information, visit imonarena.com.
Sledding
Sledding is allowed in all City parks and at Bunker Hill Golf Course. Please remember that sledding in any City park or on any City property is at your own risk.
