Jenkins Creek Trail - Taking the First Steps Trails have been high on the community's wish list for years. And, for years, there has been a vision for a multi-use trail to follow Jenkins Creek through the city, connecting neighborhoods, schools, healthcare facilities, parks, commercial areas, and the county’s regional trail system. SPRING T-BALL/BASEBALL LEAGUE SPRING SOCCER LEAGUE

Our spring soccer league provides an opportunity for recreational players to sharpen their skills and broaden their knowledge with an emphasis on fun, participation, and good sportsmanship. Practices begin the last week of February and the season ends on April 27. Teams will have one designated weekday evening practice each week which will be determined by the volunteer coach and games are held on Saturdays at a local Covington school or Covington Community Park. Teams are formed according to grade and school; we also allow buddy requests. Registration closes on February 1. Save $10 and sign up before the early registration window deadline on January 3. Star Parties Sail the Milky Way with local astronomers who will provide star gazing expertise along with access to telescopes, binoculars and star charts. Be a Volunteer Coach!

Covington Parks and Recreation is proud to offer co-ed flag football again in Summer 2024. This league is geared toward providing an opportunity for your child to sharpen skills and broaden their knowledge of football with an emphasis on fun, participation, and sportsmanship.

All players will receive an NFL team jersey and flag belt. Players must provide their own mouth guard and shorts with no pockets. Games will be primarily on Saturday mornings and afternoons with the occasional weekday game as well. Games will be played at Covington Community Park and Kentwood High School. Registration opens April 9 and the last day to register is June 4. Teams fill up fast so sign up early, we cannot guarantee space will be available on the registration deadline. Coaching can be a valuable volunteer experience for parents, grandparents, siblings, or other caring adults. The commitment is low and the experience is extremely rewarding! We are looking for volunteer coaches for our youth athletics programs. Here is what is takes to be a coach: - 1-4 hours per week depending on division (practice, game, & prep) - We supply all equipment, coaching and league information - Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting - Coaches choose their own practice day - The seasons are around two months long - We focus on being non-competitive, fun and instructional! - Head coaches receive a 50% discount on their child's registration. All ages can come enjoy the natural elements of Soos Creek Park and learn about different species that live there. Dress warm with layers in the winter months! You’re invited to sail the Milky Way with local astronomers who will provide star gazing expertise along with access to telescopes, binoculars and star charts (also found at www. skymaps.com). Explore the Moon, the planets, constellations, stars, clusters and galaxies that the season's night scape presents. Dress warmly and bring a small flashlight—red filters are provided. Children with parental supervision are welcome and astronomers will bring the stars alive for small ones. Inclement, cloudy weather (more than a few isolated clouds present) will likely cause cancellation of the Star Party.

Aquatics POOL RENTALS The pool is available to rent for private parties like birthdays, youth groups, and more. The pool is set up like a weekend public swim for private pool rentals! Rentals Fee Pool Rental $262.00/hour Pool Party Room Rental $53.00

Neptune’s Cove, the Covington Aquatic Center’s party room accommodates up to 40 people and is available for a $50 fee. The party room can also be rented apart from the pool. Rentals are on the hour, and include 50 minutes of room use. Room use includes all set-up, party time and take-down. Reservations must be made prior to the rental. Underwater Egg Hunt

WATER EXERCISE Water exercise classes are great aerobic and cardiovascular workouts that will help you increase your cardiovascular endurance, improve your heart rate, and help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program designed by the American Red Cross. Classes are offered for all ages and all ability levels. Beginning levels focus on water adjustment and introduce basic swimming and water safety skills. More advanced levels concentrate on stroke development, stroke refinement and additional water safety skills.

WHAT CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Placing of your child into the correct level is critical for their success. Each swimming level focuses on different skills, depending on age and ability. If your child is a beginner, they will start in the first level of either Parent & Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, or Learn to Swim, depending on their age. If your child has had lessons before or has some swimming experience, their swimming ability needs to be assessed to determine the appropriate level in our swim lesson program. HOW TO REGISTER

Swim lessons will open for viewing one month before the first session. You will be able to see which levels are offered and at what times. Registration will then open six days prior to the first day of class. All registrations for Winter and Spring 2024 will open at 10 a.m. to give all customers the same chance at getting into a session. Online registration is HIGHLY recommended and will give the best advantage to getting a spot. On days where registration opening occurs on a holiday, that lesson session will open the day after the holiday at 10 a.m.

The Covington Aquatic Center’s Boy Scout Swimming Merit Badge Clinic is a 4-hour clinic which allows for Boy Scouts to begin (and perhaps complete) the Eagle-required Swimming Merit Badge. 2024 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION COVINGTON PARKS & RECREATION

Covington Parks and Recreation Scholarships are available for select recreation, aquatic and athletic programs up to $200 per child per year, as funding allows. Scholarships may be applied towards a maximum of 75% of the cost of any applicable activity registration. Scholarship applications must be submitted and approved prior to any scholarship funds being available for registration. Scholarships are only available to youth under 18 years of age. Valid proof of financial limitation includes: Acceptance letter for a free or reduced school lunch program A U.S. Individual Tax Return Form 1040 for all members of your household with an income.
