LEAGUES

SPRING T-BALL/BASEBALL LEAGUE

We offer Co-Ed T-Ball, Coach Pitch, and Baseball leagues for boys and girls in Pre-K to 6th grade. The league begins the last week of April and ends in late June. Registration closes March 30, 2022. Sign up before March 9 to take advantage of the early bird discount.

SPRING SOCCER LEAGUE

Covington Parks and Recreation is offering our spring soccer league for youth in the City of Covington and the surrounding areas. Our league aims at providing an opportunity for kids to learn about team work and sportsmanship. Practices are weeknights and begin the first week of March. Practice days and times are determined by the volunteer coach. Games are predominantly on Saturdays at Covington Community Park and Kentwood High School. The season kicks off on March 12 and ends May 7. Registration opens November 30 and closes February 1. Do you like working with kids? Are you responsible and fun? Do you have a passion for sports? If you are age 14 or older, you can be a referee! It truly takes a village to run our programs and we need your talents to make it happen. We are looking for referees of all skill levels and for all age groups as well as responsible adults to oversee our facilities as site leads. Sound interesting? Athletics Be a Volunteer Coach!

Star Parties Sail the Milky Way with local astronomers who will provide star gazing expertise along with access to telescopes, binoculars and star charts. We will explore the Moon, the planets, constellations, stars, clusters and galaxies that each season's night scape presents. September 14 - 8 p.m.

Coaching can be a valuable volunteer experience for parents, grandparents, siblings, or other caring adults. The commitment is low and the experience is extremely rewarding! We are looking for volunteer coaches for our youth athletics programs. Here is what is takes to be a coach: - 1-4 hours per week depending on division (practice, game, & prep) - We supply all equipment, coaching and league information - Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting - Coaches choose their own practice day - The seasons are around two months long - We focus on being non-competitive, fun and instructional! - Head coaches receive a 50% discount on their child's registration.

This is an introductory dance class for 3-4 year olds full of fun, music, and moving! Your blossoming dancer will have a blast learning the basics of ballet. Looking for someplace for your kids to jump, roll and hang upside down all while safe and having fun? Look no further! Synapse Circus Center has circus camp during President's Week. This camp is an incredible opportunity to learn the basics of all sorts of amazing circus skills like trapeze, tumbling, juggling, low tightwire, ball walking and so much more! No previous experience is needed. Students will get to show off their new skills in a virtual "End of Camp Show" to family and friends on the last day of camp. Masks are required. PRESIDENT'S WEEK AERIAL CAMP

Learn to fly, climb, swing and twist in the air! This class starts students on their aerial journey with the core skills that focuses on the four most common aerial apparatus. Lyra (hoop), Corde Lisse (rope), Aerial Fabric and Static Trapeze, developing the strength, flexibility and air awareness needed to master skills high above the ground. Masks are required. NATURE OWL PROWL

Come learn about and see the four owl species that live in Soos Creek Park. After a 45 minute talk indoors, we will head out into the park to locate and view owls in their natural habitat through night scopes. Dress warm with layers! Experience Adventure Pals with your child as we hear a story, do a craft, sing songs and finish with a snack of your choice. Each month will reflect a new theme for our adventures together. Classes remain online via Zoom. Please plan on stopping by the Maple Valley Center each month to do a drive by packet pick up of class supplies. We ask that you have basic art supplies available at your home, such as crayons or markers, a glue stick , tape or stapler.

Boys and girls, come for a day of fun while earning your Super Sitters Certificate. This class will cover leadership, the business of babysitting, basic care for children, understanding children Class will last between 45-60 minutes, depending on of different age groups, safety and first aid. Covington Parks & Recreation aims to offer a wide variety of recreational and athletic opportunities to the community. If you don’t find a class, sport or event in Covington, we encourage you to check in with our neighbors to the east - Maple Valley. Here are a few of their adult sports leagues coming this fall.

ADULT COED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Bump, set and spike your way to the league title this winter! Adult coed volleyball teams play eight matches with three males and three females on the court. Two divisions are offered - competitive and recreational. Referees, postseason playoffs and champion’s t-shirts are included. Only 18 teams will be allowed so early registration is encouraged. League plays at Summit Trail Middle School. Age 18+

ADULT 4-ON-4 BASKETBALL LEAGUE

This league is a “call your own fouls” league without standings, playoffs or referees. Teams run full court with four players and play eight games. A gym supervisor will keep score and make sure everyone is playing by the rules, but the success of the league and enjoyment of the players involved will depend upon SPORTSMANSHIP. League is limited to eight teams and plays at Summit Trail Middle School. Age 18+

COED OUTDOOR 8v8 SOCCER LEAGUE

Come play on our team this spring! Teams play on a modified field (85x50 yds.) with youth sized goals. No slide tackling allowed. Teams play with eight players (4 males, 3 females and a goal keeper of either gender) on turf fields at Ravensdale Park. Teams receive eight games with top teams advancing to the playoffs. Player cards or additional memberships are not required. Age 18+

ADULT COED SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Teams play eight games in the spring using a double-header format on turf fields at Summit Park. Doublewall bats must bear USSSA’s 1.20 BPF stamp but only one homerun is allowed per game. Maximum five males on defense. Umpires, playoffs and champion’s t-shirts are included. Only six teams will be allowed to register so early registration is encouraged. Age 18+

Aquatics Per the King County Local Health Officer Order: Vaccine Verification, effective Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, the Covington Aquatic Center will require all program participants and spectators that are 12 years of age or older to provide verification of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test completed in the last 72 hours in order to enter the facility.

POOL RENTALS

Private pool rentals are not offered this winter, but if you are interested in a private pool rental during our Spring schedule, please contact the Covington Aquatic Center at parks@covingtonwa.gov or call the front desk at 253.480.2480 to be placed on a program interest list. The pool is available to rent for private parties like birthdays, youth groups, and more. Neptune’s Cove, the Covington Aquatic Center’s party room accommodates up to 25 people and is available for an additional $50 fee. The party room can also be rented apart from the pool. Rentals are on the hour, and include 50 minutes of room use. Room use includes all set-up, party time and take-down.

Aquatics WATER EXERCISE Water exercise classes are great aerobic and cardiovascular workouts that will help you increase your cardiovascular endurance, improve your heart rate, and help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Our water exercise classes are 1-hour long, and available on a dropin basis, as listed on the pool schedule.

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program designed by the American Red Cross. Classes are offered for all ages and all ability levels. Beginning levels focus on water adjustment and introduce basic swimming and water safety skills. More advanced levels concentrate on stroke development, stroke refinement and additional water safety skills.

WHAT CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Placing of your child into the correct level is critical for their success. Each swimming level focuses on different skills, depending on age and ability. If your child is a beginner, they will start in the first level of either Parent & Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, or Learn to Swim, depending on their age. If your child has had lessons before or has some swimming experience, their swimming ability needs to be assessed to determine the appropriate level in our swim lesson program. We provide Placement Tests free of charge during our Public Swims. Ages 6 months-4 years 4-5 years 6-14 years 15+ years
