Planning for New Aquatic/Rec Center The Cities of Covington and Maple Valley are tapping a Washington State grant to conduct a feasibility study this winter to understand and plan for future indoor aquatics and recreation in our area. The Citizen Steering Committee and the professional planning team have been hard at work over the past few months and are excited to share their findings as they’ve evaluated location options and identified possible facility offerings.

SPRING T-BALL/BASEBALL
Covington Parks and Recreation also offers Co-Ed T-Ball, Coach Pitch, and Baseball leagues for boys and girls in Pre-K to 4th grade. League begins the last week of April and ends in late June. Registration opens February 15 and closes March 30. Sign up before March 5 to take advantage of the early bird discount. Teams fill up fast and space is limited; there is no guarantee space will be available on the deadline date. Practices will be held once a week and gameday is Saturday. SPRING SOCCER CLINIC
Our skills clinic aims at providing an opportunity for kids to learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, and an avenue to develop their skills on the soccer pitch. Each hour-long session will be limited to 20 participants so that we can break the players down into groups of five. Registration opens January 4 and closes when the program is full.

Athletics The Kids Need You!

It truly takes a village to run our programs and we need your talents to make it happen. We are looking for referees of all skill levels and for all age groups; as well as responsible adults to oversee our facilities as site leads, Interested? We are looking for volunteer coaches for our youth athletics programs. Here is what is takes to be a coach • • • • • • •
1-4 hours per week depending on division (practice, game, & prep). We supply all equipment, coaching and league information. Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting. Coaches choose their own practice days. The seasons are around two months long. We focus on being non-competitive, fun and instructional! Head coaches receive a 50% discount on their child's registration.

We’ll discuss musical forms and terms, see the instruments, listen to the music, and talk about personal experiences creating a unique take on a very popular subject. This is the history of Rock 'n' Roll so some of the content may be considered inappropriate for younger people. Experience Adventure Pals with your child as we hear a story, do a craft, sing songs and finish with a snack of your choice. Each month will reflect a new theme for our adventures together. This camp is an incredible opportunity to learn the basics of all sorts of amazing circus skills. Trapeze, tumbling, juggling, low tightwire, ball walking and so much more! No previous experience needed. Students will get to show off their new skills in a virtual "End of Camp Show" to family and friends on the last day of camp. Masks required. SOCIALLY DISTANCED SWIMMING All swimming requires pre-registration for 25-minute blocks of time; specific location will be assigned at check-in on the day of the swim. Specific requests cannot be guaranteed, but should be made ahead of time by e-mailing parks@ covingtonwa.gov. Reserving two consecutive blocks of time will result in an additional five minute of swimming time (normally the transition time between), but no additional discounts will be applied. POOL CLOSURES
WATER EXERCISE Water exercise classes are great aerobic and cardiovascular workouts that will help you increase your cardiovascular endurance, improve your heart rate, and help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Our preregistration water exercise classes are 55-minutes long and include a few different options:
WATERX BOOTCAMP
A more intense cardio muscle building workout with emphasis on interval training while reducing impact to the body’s joints. When in the deep end, a maximum of two participants are allowed per lane and we require six feet of separation at all times. In the shallow end, each participant is assigned their own socially distanced space.
WATERX - SHALLOW AEROBICS
A low-impact aerobics and cardiovascular workout in the shallow-end of the pool. These classes emphasize stretching, developing muscular strength, and developing range of motion. Each participant is assigned their own socially distanced space.
WATERX - DEEP AEROBICS
These classes in the deep-end of the pool give one of the greatest aerobic and toning workouts available with no impact to the body’s joints! These specialized aerobics and cardiovascular workouts provide muscular conditioning and excellent core strengthening. A maximum of two participants are allowed per lane and we require six feet of separation at all times so that each participant may have their own socially distanced space.

PARENT & CHILD, PRESCHOOL AQUATICS AND LEARN-TO-SWIM
We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program designed by the American Red Cross. Classes are offered for all ages and all ability levels. Beginning levels focus on water adjustment and introduce basic swimming and water safety skills; these classes require an adult from the same household in-water with the student to provide support. More advanced levels concentrate on stroke development, stroke refinement and additional water safety skills. Lessons are 25-minutes long, except for Competitive Swim Lessons, which run 55-minutes.
