UPDATES TO INFORMATION SERVICES
As Information Services continues aligning responsibilities across the Department, we’re recognizing two role designations within the IT team
Jacobo Padilla is stepping into the Network Administrator role and will continue leading work related to the City’s network infrastructure, connectivity, communications systems, and network security.
Chris Martinez is stepping into the Systems Administrator role and will continue leading our server infrastructure, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 environment, backups, and overall system availability
Both Jacobo and Chris have already been supporting these areas, so this update mainly helps clarify responsibilities and better positions IT to execute our five-year strategic plan moving forward. Day-to-day support and services will remain the same.
Please join us in thanking them for their continued support and commitment to serving the City and our teams.

PaidParentalLeavePolicy
The City offers two weeks of Paid Parental Leave to eligible fulltime employees who have completed one year of service, providing dedicated time to bond with a new child after birth, adoption, or foster placement. This benefit reflects the City’s commitment to supporting employees through significant life events while maintaining continuity of leave and benefits in accordance with this policy. Benefits
Alliance Work Partners EAP Reminder
When accessing your EAP benefits:
All employees and family members must contact AWP Intake and Referrals first before scheduling counseling, legal, or financial services. Intake will complete a brief assessment and connect them with an in network provider.
If services are scheduled without first contacting Intake, or if a provider is selected outside of AWP’s network, those sessions cannot be reimbursed. In those cases, the employee would be financially responsible for services received prior to completing the intake and referral process.
AWP is seeing an increase in situations where individuals schedule directly with a provider or are referred through their health insurance and then later request reimbursement through the EAP. Unfortunately, AWP is not able to retroactively authorize or reimburse those sessions.
To avoid confusion, AWP recommends: Always call Intake first
Use the registration code only to create an account, not as authorization for services
Wait to be referred by AWP before scheduling appointments

health&wellness
March Is National Nutrition Month
According to HUB Wellness, adults who have healthy eating patterns live longer and are at lower risk of developing serious health problems, like heart disease and diabetes. They also enjoy higher energy levels and greater mental well-being. If those sound like good reasons for you to examine your own eating patterns, read on for recommendations on how to shift your diet and reap the benefits of improved health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Recommends:
Consuming Nutrient-Dense Foods: You should meet most of your nutrition needs with foods that contain high levels of protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, like fruits, vegetables, eggs, lean meats, poultry and whole grains.
Limiting Processed Foods: These are foods that are high in added sugar, salt and unhealthy fats. Sodas, white breads and cookies are great examples of processed foods.
Focusing on Small Changes: You don’t have to overhaul your diet overnight. Start by making small changes that you can stick with and build on them until you’re happy with your eating habits.

CHOOSE YOUR PLATE FOR HEALTHY EATING
Eating well by getting enough fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low or non-fat dairy products, and the right amount of protein is great for your long-term health Poor eating habits and physical activity causes high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes
The USDA has come up with a method called “ChooseMyPlate” This method can help you choose appropriate portion sizes and make sure that you get enough nutrients from fruits and vegetables
Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables. Eating enough fruits and vegetables is a great way to get a lot of nutrition for few calories. They can reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease and maybe even certain types of cancer.

Make half your grains whole Whole grains include the entire grain seed, which means that they also include the most nutrients and fiber They provide your body with iron, magnesium, selenium, and B vitamins Refined grains have been processed to remove the seed Even if they have been “enriched” they still do not contain fiber or as many nutrients as your body truly needs
Milk and milk products (and comparable milk substitutes) provide many essential nutrients, including calcium, potassium, and vitamin D. Calcium and vitamin D are associated with stronger bones and teeth. The USDA recommends switching to 1% or fat free milk and low and non-fat yogurts and cheeses.
Protein is an essential nutrient for your body, and can be found in a whole variety of food sources such as seafood, meat, poultry, eggs, beans, peas, soy products, nuts, and seeds A little goes a long way with the protein group Most women only need about 5 ounces of protein and most men need only about 6 ounces of protein a day
