FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER

Team Cibolo,

As we move into the third quarter of 2026, I am filled with immense gratitude and pride for the dedication this team displays every day. Summer in Cibolo brings its own unique pace, but it also highlights the incredible resilience and work ethic of our staff across all departments.

Connecting with you is always a priority for me, and I recently wrapped up my annual departmental visits. I want to personally thank everyone for taking the time to sit down, share your stories, and talk through how we can continue to support one another. These visits are truly one of my favorite things to do each year. I am always deeply impressed by the quality of your questions and the genuine engagement from employees who want to stay informed and connected with the happenings of our organization. Your insights from the front lines of service delivery are invaluable.

While we connect internally, our planning for the city's future continues to move forward. Our Fiscal Year 2027 budget season is well underway, and departments have already successfully submitted their base budgets to Finance Director Anna Miranda. We conducted our initial budget workshop on Monday, June 16th. Our success as a city relies on a shared commitment to transparency and alignment. Any employees who wish to attend the upcoming workshops in person are more than welcome to do so. The budget is fundamentally about our commitment to provide exceptional service and is the tool that allows us to invest in our greatest asset our people

Our commitment to service has been especially vital over the past two months, which brought an extraordinary amount of rain to our area. I want to extend a special thank you to our public safety personnel and all staff members who acted om a support role for their exceptional efforts during our recent flood events. Your swift actions and dedication kept our community and our students safe during some very challenging conditions. You exemplify what it means to serve with professionalism and respect.

That dedication to our community is also evident in how we celebrate Cibolo. Our "Cibolo Summer Nights" program is officially underway. This busy summer season is a reminder of the collaborative effort required to keep our signature community traditions alive, with a focus on preparation for Cibolofest.

This summer marks a truly historic milestone as we prepare to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of our Nation this July 4th. Reaching a quarter-millennium milestone as a country is a special moment. This year marks Cibolo’s 60th birthday as you already know. We are proud to honor it by celebrating our own history and local heritage. Thanks to the hard work and excellent collaboration of our Parks and Historical Committees, our new downtown mural is complete. This beautiful project adds vibrant new energy to our historic district. If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, I encourage you to stop by Old Town, check out this great beautification project, and snap a photo

Thank you for your continued dedication, your excellent questions, and your commitment to serving Cibolo with excellence. Our progress is never the work of a single individual, but a team united by a shared purpose.

Please stay safe and stay hydrated during these hot summer months!

July is UV Safety Month

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Most cases of melanoma, the deadliest kind of skin cancer, are caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. The sun’s rays can damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes. While there are several steps you can take to limit your exposure to the sun, proper sunscreen selection and application are critical.

Remember that not all sunscreens are created equal, so it’s about finding the one you need for the specific weather and activity.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzed more than 2,200 sunscreens available for purchase in 2025. The EWG report revealed that just one-fourth o sunscreens on store shelves provide safe and effective protection.

Sunscreen labels must follow specific guidelines, so here’s what they exactly mean:

Broad-spectrum protection works against UVA (skin cancer and premature aging) and UVB (sunburn rays).

SPF is the level of protection against UVB rays. Experts recommend using sunscreen with an SPF value of at least 30. Water-resistant sunscreen needs to be reapplied, depending on the brand, after 40 or 80 minutes of swimming or excessive swimming.

Sunscreens maintain their full strength for three years but always check the expiration date.

Did you know that your FSA or HSA card can be used to purchase select suncare items? Shop FSA/HSA eligible sun protection at the links below:

This Gallup question measures whether employees receive regular feedback and meaningful conversations about their growth and progress at work. It reflects communication, support, and ongoing development between employees and managers. When people receive constructive feedback and guidance, they feel more engaged, valued, and confident in their growth.

Quick Connect Conversation

A Quick Connect is a one- to 10-minute conversation to stay connected with employees and their short-term work.

Questions to Ask

How do you feel about what you are working on?

What are you proud of that you’ve been working on?

Do you think that the two of us get an opportunity to talk enough?

How often should we get together to talk about your progress?

Sharpen Your Approach

Listen for what your employees need from you Consider whether you can meet with them as often as they want. If you cannot meet with them often enough, think about how you could work with each person to determine a realistic schedule.

Progress Check-In Challenge: Have one conversation this week focused on progress, growth, or goals, not just daily tasks.

Team Check-In Conversation

A team Check-In is a 10- to 30-minute conversation to discuss team successes and current needs while still keeping a focus on the team’s future work

Questions to Ask

What were our team’s greatest accomplishments this past year?

How do you think we are doing as a team? In which areas do we excel? In which areas do we need some help?

What topics should our team address at our midyear review?

How often should we get together as a group to talk about progress?
