8TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

Beers in the Barnyard is the major fundraising event of the Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation that supports enhancements and sustainability projects within our beautiful Cedar Rapids’ parks. This event features a Farm to Table Dinner by Big Grove, local beers, alcohol free options and wine sampling, live music and a stellar silent auction!

This event was attended by 350 doers, donors, and door openers in 2024. In 2025, we are expanding to accommodate up to 400 guests! Your $60 event ticket includes dinner and drinks, live music by local musicians, games and giveaways. Purchase your ticket today and join us for an evening of fun-raising!

Beers in the Barnyard is a 21-and-older event.

FALL NERF® TACTICAL (9-14 yrs.)

Grab your friends and your NERF gear and head out to Ushers Ferry to blow off some steam over Thanksgiving break! Learn NERF safety and strategy, then break into teams to play ‘Capture the Flag’ and other games to defend your fortress. Bring your own NERF gear, ammo, and eye protection. We will play indoors in the lodge if the weather is bad.

Do you have an antique or vintage treadle sewing machine you would like to get running again? Let’s see what it takes to make it sew! You will need your machine head, sewing machine tool kit (screwdrivers, etc.) and the machine manual (if you have it). We will go through the process of cleaning, oiling, and threading the machine. Please note that our specialty is long shuttle or round robbin machines from about 1870-1930s, but we are always willing to take a look. This class will cover the five basic types of machines and provide resources to learn more about yours.

You will paint glass containers using chalk paint, filled with compost, and then a variety of winter greens gathered from nature. You will also learn about the common conifer trees found in Iowa. We offer senior fitness classes that emphasize improving balance, flexibility & strength to reduce falls and increase independence. Our most popular format is strength & balance. B ever Park

Old MacDonald’s Farm in Bever Park is operated by Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation. Located on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids, it is a free petting farm that is open to the public and features farm animals and North American waterfowl. This city landmark is over 100 years old and is enjoyed by people of all ages.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES

The first hour of your party will be a guided farm tour with a party host. In this hour, you will have hands-on contact with the animals and will be able to feed them as well. The second hour will be free time at the pavilion near the duck exhibit. Bring your own cake, snacks, and beverages. The birthday child will receive a give from Old MacDonald’s Farm. Reservations are available through September 28 and can be scheduled between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Reservations are required two weeks in advance. Fee is $175 per two-hour period and includes pavilion reservation and farm tour. Non-refundable.

GROUP TOURS

One-hour tours are available by appointment only for groups. Tours are $4 per person and available weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Continue playing baseball into the Fall in this first-of-its-kind program for the Metro area! Local parks and recreation departments have teamed up to bring you this new recreational baseball league at Triple Play Park. This league will meet once per week to continue building skills, work on fundamentals, and play games in a fun environment! Volunteer coaches are needed. Join us for five days of coaching and one race in the sport of BMX. You will learn how to handle your bike through turns, ride safely with other riders, and practice techniques for conquering the jumps on the track. The final day you will participate in a regular race. Coaches will be on-hand to assist throughout the whole event. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet, but a limited number of loaner bikes and full-face helmets are available at no extra charge. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants to each session. Included in the cost of the camp is a full year USA BMX membership, a long sleeve jersey, a custom plate number plate, a completion award, and a pizza party. Register by 8/25.

General Pool Rules

 Children ages 5 and under must be supervised by an adult within arm’s length.

 Youth ages 6-10 must be supervised by an adult or responsible person at least age 14.

 Children’s swimsuits with permanent built-in floats are permitted but not recommended. Noodles, and suits with removable floats are not permitted. Coast guard approved lifejackets are allowed.

 Actual swim attire is required as fibers from street clothing damage the pool filter. Sorry, no basketball shorts.

 Swim diapers are required for children who are not toilet trained. They are available from the pool cashier for $1.

Locker Rooms

The pool has locker rooms equipped with showers, hair dryers, electrical outlets, and baby changing tables. Bring your own or rent one from the pool. You will be required to leave your ID at the desk when you rent a lock. It will be returned when you return the lock. Personal locks must be removed daily. Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation is not responsible for locks or for lost or stolen items.

 Plastic ID cards are reusable from one season to the next. Don’t throw them out, just renew them.

Has it been two years since you last took a lifeguard class? This class is for participants to demonstrate their knowledge and skill competency with little or no review. Current lifeguard certifications are required. Successful completion of this class renews your lifeguard, first aid, CPR-P, and AED. Bring pocket mask, book, suit, and towel.

WHEN TO REGISTER

Advanced registration is required. No registrations are accepted on the first day of a session. Limited registration may be available as the session start date approaches. Registration cutoff is at 11:59 p.m. the Saturday before the session begins.

WITHDRAWALS, REFUNDS, TRANSFERS

Withdrawals and transfers will be honored if they are made by 5 p.m. the Wednesday before the first day of class. In all cases a $5 non-refundable handling fee will be deducted. Once the Thursday before the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the program is cancelled by CR Parks & Recreation.

LOW/HIGH ENROLLMENT

Classes not making the minimum enrollment may be cancelled. Maximums are not guaranteed.

AGE REQUIREMENT

If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may be registered for that program, unless an exception is noted otherwise.

HEALTH REQUIREMENT

The purpose of this class is to expose the child to water adjustment skills. Front kicking, underwater exploration, and entering and exiting the water will be covered. One parent per child.

Bender Pool Swim Lessons

*NEW* We have changed our registration process to simplify it. In this new registration process (for Levels 1-5) parents will not need to sign their kids up for a level but simply sign up for a timeslot that works best. For students that have taken levels in the past, we will pre-sort them into their levels, For new students, we will do a brief 5-8 minute evaluation at the beginning of the first class to determine what level is most appropriate.

Noelridge Greenhouse

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

A permanent display of large tropical plants is housed at Noelridge Greenhouse, 4900 Council Street NE. The greenhouse is open to the public on Monday-Friday from 7am-3:30pm, and for scheduled special events.

TOURS

The Friends of Noelridge offer guided tours of the greenhouse, landscaped beds, and butterfly tent for groups of five or more. Tours will last about one hour. Pickleball Courts

A new 10-court pickleball complex in Jones Park features five courts on both sides of a central shade area with electrical outlets, a drinking fountain, and benches. Each court has a four-foot fence that separates it from the others. An eight-foot fence encloses five courts on each side. Access the courts via Fruitland Boulevard, not the road through Jones Park. Tennis courts at Noelridge, Ellis, and Bever Parks are also lined for pickleball.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources will relase trout into the lake at Prairie Park Fishery at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 24, A valid fishing license and trout stamp are required.

Riverside Skatepark

A lighted skatepark is located in Riverside Park. Concrete obstacles in the park include a quarterpipe, radius wedge, Euro gap, kicker, radius launch, stairs, flat grind rail, raked grind rails, cantilevered manual pad, grind-out ledge, raked panned grind ledge, double raked panned grind ledge, panned grindout ledges, and slappy curb. Skatepark hours are from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily.

Splash Pads

Splash pads are ready to keep kids cool May 24 through September 2, 2025. They are located at Cedar Valley, Cleveland, Daniels, Greene Square, Hayes, Hidder, Jacolyn, Noelridge, Redmond, Time Check and Twin Pines Parks.

Trails

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation maintains a variety of hard surface and crushed limestone recreational trails. If you make a complete tour of all the City trails and bikeways, you will travel over 100 miles. u Visit LinnCountyTrails.org for maps.

Off-Leash Dog Parks

The City of Cedar Rapids has three offleash parks. Cheyenne Off-Leash Dog Park is located on Cedar Bend Lane SW, off Old River Road. The 12th Avenue Dog Park is located at the corner of 12th Avenue SE and 4th Street, near the New Bohemia commercial district. K9Acres is located north of Gardner Golf Course at 5200 Golf Course Road, Marion. An annual permit is required to use these parks.

The permit is valid January 1 - December 31. The 2025 annual permit fee is $42. Daily Passes, for those who want to try the park or who may be in the area for a short time, are $6. Passes may be purchased online at CRRec.org; by phone at 319-286-5566; or in person at the Parks and Recreation office at the City Services Center, 500 15th Avenue SW; or the Northwest Recreation Center, 1340 11th Street NW.

A dog tag is issued to those who purchase an annual permit. The color of the tag changes each year. Dog tags may be picked up at the City Services Center or Northwest Recreation Center. They may also be mailed for $2. Replacement tags cost $5.

Registration Guidelines

• Payment must be received to register for a program.

• Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes based on registration. A full refund is issued for all cancelled classes. Minimum and maximum class sizes are utilized.

• Waiting lists are established when classes are full. Additional classes may be offered if the minimum enrollment is reached and facility space is available.

• Fees will not be prorated.

• Registration is required prior to the start of class, unless noted.

• A youth waiver is required for every participant under age 17.

• A $5 non-refundable handling charge will be deducted from the refund of each class when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the class or program is cancelled by Parks & Recreation. Swimming exception: See page 40.

GO ONLINE — Our improved process is convenient and easy!

. Click on the Online Registration link. Log on and follow the directions provided. The first time you use the system your username is your household ID number and your password is the primary adult’s last name (up to twelve characters, not case sensitive). Online registration is processed 24 hours a day with credit card payment up to the day prior to the start of the class or session or the registration deadline date.

Those who reside in a zip code with 524 as the first three numbers receive a discount for programs and swim passes.
