As Buckeye continues to grow, our commitment to keeping our community clean, safe and sustainable remains a top priority. This month, we are focusing on providing you with the tools you need to manage your home efficiently, from smart water tracking to hassle-free waste disposal.
In this month’s edition of Eye on Buckeye, you will find important updates regarding your bulk trash pick-up and helpful tips for recycling right to ensure we are reducing our environmental footprint together. We are also highlighting rebate opportunities that put money back in your pocket when you choose to make water-wise upgrades to your home or landscaping. By taking advantage of these resources, you aren’t just saving money, you are helping to secure our future.

HELPFUL TIPS FOR TRASH DISPOSAL & WATER CONSERVATION
BULK TRASH:
If you have trash that will not fit in your collection bin, the city offers scheduled bulk trash collection. Each resident, with an active city trash account, is allowed up to four bulk collections at no charge. Once you complete your bulk trash pick-up request, keep in mind your bulk trash pick-up will occur on your next regular trash day.
Residents who need more than four bulk trash collections per year may contact Republic Services directly. The cost for this service is $195 and is paid to Republic Services. Call 602-605-4009 for more information or to schedule this service.
Helpful bulk trash collection tips:
• Keep your pile six feet long by six feet wide by six feet high
• Tree limbs must be cut to three feet and stacked and tied into bundles
• Thorny brush/cacti must be boxed
• Small items must be bagged, or will not be collected
• Items must be placed at the front of your property, next to the sidewalk (not in the street) - If you have alley pickup, place items at the alley endcap
• Set items out the night before your scheduled pickup
DO NOT INCLUDE:
• Rocks, dirt, concrete
• Construction or demolition debris
• Large auto parts

• Gasoline, oil or other hazardous waste
Batteries and many other hazardous items in your home could cause a fire in the trash truck or at the landfill, or could spill on the road and make an unsightly mess on the pavement and private property
Items that should NEVER GO INTO YOUR TRASH BIN:
• Oil-based and latex paint, stains & paint thinner
• Household cleaners
• Pool chemicals
• Automotive products
• Pesticides, herbicides, rodent poisons, insecticides & lawn fertilizers
• Batteries
• Aerosol cans
Residents with an active trash account may use the household hazardous waste drop-off program at the Buckeye Public Works yard, located at 23454 W. MC 85.
Go to buckeyeaz.gov/hhw to schedule an appointment to drop off your hazardous materials.
If you have more trash than you can handle, and bulk trash will not do the trick, the Southwest Regional Landfill offers a convenient residential drop-off. Residents can dispose of up to 600 pounds for a base fee of $14, with additional charges applied for heavier loads. Please remember to bring a copy of your current trash bill to verify your account.

Recycle Right, Buckeye!
Buckeye’s commitment to sustainability starts right at the curb! Our trash and recycling carts are manufactured right here in Buckeye, using recycled plastics to create every new bin. Recycling is one of the easiest ways to keep Buckeye beautiful and protect our desert environment. Best of all, it’s convenient! Your recycling is collected once a week on the same day as your trash.
City’s trash and recycling containers are made locally in Buckeye by Rehrig Pacific.

The city of Buckeye, in collaboration with the Buckeye Main Street Coalition, will be hosting a paper shredding event on April 18, 2026 for Buckeye residents only. There is a limit of three banker boxes per household, no more than 75 pounds total.

Water Quality
On a daily basis, our certified water operators take water samples throughout the system and perform over 150 tests to ensure the drinking water meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements. We work closely with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department (MCESD) to ensure all drinking water standards are met 365 days a year, seven days a week and 24 hours a day.
We understand our groundwater contains a lot of natural minerals (calcium, sodium and magnesium) otherwise known as Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) that affect the taste and appearance of our water. However, these minerals are not harmful to you. In recent years, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has implemented various processes to lessen the effect of TDS for our customers. We are committed to maintaining safe and reliable water and wastewater services. As the city grows and funds are available, WRD will continue to implement additional methods of lessening the impact of TDS.

The Smart Way to Track Your Water
The Advanced Customer Portal is an online tool that allows Buckeye water customers to access their daily water usage readings and set up alerts to notify them via email if unusually large usage is detected.

Xeriscaping is landscaping that focuses on drought-tolerant plants and efficient irrigation, that significantly reduces water use.

Get Paid to Save
