HUMAN SERVICES HUMAN

Weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Buckeye’s Human Services Program partners with local agencies to help residents facing unexpected financial hardship through temporary assistance, referrals, and short-term case management.

BUCKEYE’S ARTS AND CULTURE IS GROWING!

Buckeye’s arts and culture is growing, and you don’t have to look far to see it. From vibrant traffic box wraps along Yuma, Miller, and Watson Roads to new murals rising across the city, the Arts & Culture Division is turning everyday spaces into works of art.

Right now, three murals are in the works along with a kinetic sculpture in the design phase. At the Buckeye Senior Center, artist Robert Panzer is creating a mural inspired directly by the people who use the space, transforming the programming room with a piece that celebrates their hobbies and stories. At Van Buren and Verrado Way, a much larger mural by Valley artist Joe Pagac captures dramatic desert storms and life-giving rain, paying tribute to Buckeye’s agricultural heritage and the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Downtown, the Public Library is getting a mural by artist Bekah Unsworth that features characters emerging from books and reflects a true community collaboration—Bekah partnered with local STEAM students, guiding them through the mural-making process as students created art inspired by their favorite books and characters, with the community voting on their favorites. The top three student designs are integrated into the final mural.

Bekah said it best: “I could tell that everyone I spoke to genuinely cares about the community of Buckeye. They’re excited to see its growth, excited to be part of what’s coming next, and really excited to see public art be a big portion of that.”

Congratulations as well to the winners of the Take a Canvas/AZ America250 competition—check out the first-place piece featured on the right. Be sure to follow the City’s social media channels for updates. In Buckeye, we’re seeking to provide arts for all, built together.
