Thursday, June 15, 11am, $5 Join us starting at 11AM as we “Roll out the Barrel” and enjoy Polka, Schottische, and waltz music by the ever-popular Dick Szyplinski on the accordion! A lovely noon meal of cheeseburger/bun, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, and dutch apple pie will follow. Don’t miss your chance, register by June 8 to secure your seat at the table. This event is open to everyone. The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington, thanks to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane. Sonora’s father was a Civil War veteran who raised five children alone following the death of his wife, which gave Sonora the idea that fathers should be celebrated. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge gave his support to the observance. In 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson issued a proclamation that recognized the day. It wasn’t until 1972 that President Richard Nixon signed the legislation designating the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day. A great day is wished to all you dads.
