As the holiday season gets underway, I want to extend my gratitude to our American Canyon community. October was busy and rewarding our Fire Prevention Week Open House was another great success, and “Safe Trick-or-Treating with Public Safety” was a blast. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and helped us make safety fun for our kids.
Looking ahead to November, many of us will be gathering in the kitchen. Cooking remains the leading cause of home fires, especially on Thanksgiving. A few quick reminders to keep your celebration safe: Stay in the kitchen when you ’ re cooking on the stovetop; set a timer and keep a close eye on the oven
Keep kids and pets at least three feet from hot appliances and hot liquids. Move flammables (towels, packaging, wooden utensils) away from burners.
If a small grease fire starts in a pan, slide a lid over it and turn off the heat never use water. If you ’ re deep-frying a turkey, do it outside, away from structures, on level ground with a thawed, dry bird.
This weekend is also the end of Daylight Saving Time—please remember to turn your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 2. The time change is a perfect reminder to test the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. If your alarms are ten years old (or you ’ re not sure), it’s time to replace them. Working alarms save lives.
As always, our team is here for you. If you have questions about home safety, need help finding the right alarm, or want to schedule a presentation for your neighborhood group or business, give us a call or stop by the station. 707-551-0650.
Stay safe, enjoy the season, and thank you for your continued partnership with #AmCanFire.

Fire Prevention Week Open House: Our Biggest Year Yet!
The American Canyon Fire Protection District hosted its annual Fire Prevention Week Open House at the Public Safety Building and this year was our biggest yet! Families from across the community came out to explore, learn, and connect with the people who keep American Canyon safe.
From live fire extinguisher training to hands-only CPR demonstrations, visitors got the chance to practice real-world safety skills alongside our firefighters and partners. Kids loved climbing aboard Engines 11 and 211, meeting local firefighters and police officers, and learning how to make safe choices in an emergency.
Our partners from REACH Air Medical Services, AMR Napa County, and Napa Central Dispatch shared valuable information about calling 9-1-1, while Napafirewise and the City of American Canyon Parks and Recreation helped families learn more about wildfire preparedness and community safety resources
The event was a true team effort, made possible by our amazing community partners including the City of American Canyon – Government and the American Canyon Police Department who helped make this year’s open house an unforgettable success
The American Canyon Fire Protection District extends a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined us. Your enthusiasm, support, and participation help make events like this possible and ensure that together, we keep our community informed, prepared, and safe
On Friday evening, #AmCanFire and our partners at the American Canyon Police Department joined forces for our fourth annual Safe Trick-or-Treating event at the Public Safety Building and what a night it was!
The halls were filled with laughter, candy, and creativity as we welcomed families from across the community. We saw amazing costumes, met new friends, and had an absolute blast creating a safe and fun space for all of American Canyon’s little trickor-treaters.
Events like this remind us just how special our community truly is neighbors coming together, kids smiling ear to ear, and our public safety teams working side by side to keep everyone safe. A huge thank-you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, share a treat, and snap a few photos with the crew. We’re already counting down the days until next year’s festivities!

Know Your Zone - Evacuation Information
Many kinds of emergencies can cause you to have to evacuate. In some cases, you may have a day or two to prepare while other situations might call for an immediate evacuation. Planning is vital to making sure that you can evacuate quickly and safely no matter what the circumstances.
Reminder: There are many tools to support a quick and safe emergency evacuation effort around Napa County. Always use your best judgement in an emergency situation. If you feel unsafe, spot fires ignite, or conditions change, don't wait for an evacuation order; leave early if you are unsure to avoid being trapped by severe conditions.
