March was a busy and productive month for your #AmCanFire personnel, with a strong focus on advancing the skills that matter most when seconds count.
In partnership with REACH Air Medical Services and the crew of Copter 11, our paramedics participated in advanced airway training designed to deliver the highest level of care outside of a hospital setting. This next level of training strengthens our ability to manage complex airway emergencies in the field—ensuring that patients experiencing severe trauma or critical illness receive timely, life-saving interventions when it matters most.
Our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team also conducted a high-angle rescue drill, utilizing our training tower to simulate real-world scenarios. Crews practiced rappelling, rigging systems, and safely removing victims from elevated or hard-to-access locations. This type of training directly translates to incidents here in American Canyon—such as rescuing an injured hiker from our open space areas, assisting a construction worker from an elevated work site, or accessing patients in challenging terrain where traditional methods are not feasible.
As we head into spring and begin to see warmer weather earlier in the season, we encourage our community to take action in creating defensible space around your home. Simple steps can make a significant impact:
Clear dead vegetation and dry brush away from your home
Keep grasses cut to 4 inches or less
Remove leaves and debris from roofs and gutters
Trim tree limbs up at least 6 feet from the ground
Maintain spacing between plants and shrubs to reduce fire spread
Weed abatement reminders will be sent this week as part of our annual effort to promote cleanup and compliance ahead of fire season.
We also invite you to join us for our grazing educational tour this Saturday at 10:00 AM at Silver Oak Park. Our staff and partners will provide a close-up look at how targeted grazing is being used right here in American Canyon as an effective and sustainable tool for reducing fire fuels.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Conde on reaching his next milestone in training. Our program is a rigorous 18-month process that develops the skills required to serve as both a firefighter and paramedic, while also building a deep understanding of the community we serve. His progress is a direct reflection of his dedication and work ethic.
I would also like to recognize our personnel, who play a critical role in mentoring and developing the next generation. Each member of this organization has a vested interest in the success of our trainees, and it shows in the strength of our team.
Thank you for your continued support—we are proud to serve this community.

Ladder Operations / Ropes & Knots
Throughout March, our Fire Explorer group continued to build foundational fireground skills through hands-on training and repetition.
During the first drill, Explorers focused on ladder operations. This marked their second consecutive ladder training, allowing them to reinforce proper techniques, improve efficiency, and build confidence when throwing ground ladders. Repetition remained the priority, ensuring each Explorer became more comfortable with placement, control, and teamwork.
The second drill shifted focus to ropes and knots. For several Explorers, this was their first exposure to basic knot tying. Participants learned and practiced essential knots used in the fire service, as well as how to tie off tools properly. The drill emphasized muscle memory, consistency, and understanding the purpose behind each knot.

This month, our personnel, alongside Vallejo Fire, participated in advanced Difficult Airway Management training led by Copter 11 crews and GMR clinical education staff.
This hands-on training strengthened critical intubation skills used during traumatic medical emergencies, where precision and timing matter most.
Training in confined spaces allowed crews to practice high-impact, low-frequency skills under realistic conditions mirroring the environments in which these life-saving interventions are often performed.
We are grateful for our continued pa bringing hospital-level training direc we’re prepared to deliver when it ma
