As we welcome the month of June, I would like to take a moment to highlight several important initiatives and accomplishments within the American Canyon Fire Protection District. June 1–7 is recognized as CPR and AED Awareness Week. Sudden cardiac arrest remains one of the leading causes of death across the country, with the national survival rate remaining below 9%. Here in Napa County, however, the survival rate is an impressive 16.5%. That means living, working, and visiting American Canyon and Napa County provides a significantly better chance of survival during a cardiac emergency.
These outcomes do not happen by accident. They are the result of strong partnerships between emergency responders, healthcare professionals, and community members who take the time to learn lifesaving skills. High-quality CPR and proper AED use are critical links in the chain of survival. When bystanders immediately begin Hands-Only CPR before emergency personnel arrive, survival rates improve even further. I would also like to congratulate Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Smith on successfully completing his Module 2 examination. This milestone represents another step in our rigorous 18-month probationary training program. Each module serves as a building block, developing the knowledge, skills, and decision-making abilities necessary for a successful fire service career. The strength of our program lies not only in the dedication of our probationary firefighters but also in the commitment of the experienced personnel who invest their time mentoring, coaching, and evaluating them. Thank you to all of our members who remain fully committed to the success of every firefighter who joins our organization.
June 1 also marks the official start of fire season. As conditions become warmer and drier, reducing wildfire risk becomes a shared responsibility. Our annual weed abatement and fuel mitigation efforts are now underway to help reduce fire hazards throughout the community. Property owners play an important role in maintaining defensible space and reducing combustible vegetation. If you observe a property or area that appears to present a wildfire hazard, we encourage you to report it through our weed abatement reporting system at AmCanFire Weed Abatement Program.

Celebrating 15 Years of Service and Retirement– Marie Sipes
ACCERT, American Canyon Community Response Team, is a program that educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.
ACCERT proudly assisted the Town of Yountville for the sixth year in a row at their annual Art, Sip & Stroll event on May 16. Pedestrians were especially appreciative and thankful for the support provided throughout the event.
ACCERT also assisted Napa County CERT on May 17 with the final scenario exercise for the 120th graduating class.
