FIRE DEPARTMENT 2025 HIGHLIGHTS

The photos capture key milestones for the fire department, including the Push-In Ceremony a tradition where crews, city officials, and community members officially place new fire trucks (Engines 2, 6, and 15) into service by pushing them into the apparatus bay They also document the groundbreaking for the new Fire Station 9 on South Shackleford Road, which will replace the original station destroyed by a 2023 tornado Additionally, images highlight the grand opening of Temporary Fire Station 9 on Green Mountain Drive, featuring renovated facilities and a newly built apparatus bay to house Station 9 units during construction of the permanent station.

PARENTAL LEAVE- HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

As of January 1, the Paid Parental Leave Policy has been implemented supporting our employees and their families. The benefit is accessible to birth, placement through adoption, foster care, or surrogacy, and pregnancy loss Thanks to collaboration between several departments along with support from our Mayor and City Board we see progress and change.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS: ANYONE CAN ANYTIME

The Anyone Can, Anytime Free Pantry is a community-driven effort to fight food insecurity by placing small, accessible pantries throughout our fire stations, neighborhood resource centers, and community centers. These pantries are stocked with non-perishable food, hygiene items, and other essentials available anytime for anyone who needs them

This initiative thrives on community collaboration spearheaded by the Department of Community Programs Anyone Can participate, so help us spread the word with local businesses, neighborhood associations, fraternities, sororities, or simply a caring neighbor, your involvement can make a real difference Here’s how you can help:

Adopt a Pantry: Help maintain and monitor pantries and commit to stocking a pantry at least one week out of the month.

Spread the Word: Share the message and encourage others to participate Donate Items: Every can, box, or hygiene product helps someone in need.

Together, we can create a network of support that ensures dignity, accessibility, and hope for all. Because when anyone can help, anytime, everyone benefits!

UPDATES TO TRAVEL POLICY

The update to the travel policy is to address past issues by providing clarity, and a more efficient way of understanding. The travel expense form and the reconciliation has been updated as well More authority has been given to the Department of Directors to direct and be responsible for their travel, but must have reason for exceptions or deviations outside of the norm The goal was to give more responsibility and accountability to departments and travelers when it comes to how they choose to utilize city resources, funded by taxpayers, when they travel
