2010 Cedar Falls Representative Citizen and Business & Industry Appreciation Awards Thursday, April 22, 2010 11:30 – 1 pm The City of Cedar Falls and the Cedar Falls Utilities will conduct the annual Appreciation Awards luncheon on April 22. Barmuda and Phantom Company Reinvestor Award
East Viking Plaza is a 30-acre development in southern Cedar Falls. This area hosts Target’s retail store and a new 10,000 square foot commercial power center. The Plaza has the potential to provide 100,000 square feet of new development.
Phantom Park is home to Reel Deal Holdings, L.L.C., managed by Darin Beck. When the facility on Roosevelt flooded, portions of the Reel Deal operations relocated piecemeal to several locations in the Cedar Valley. New facilities at Technology Parkway and Chancellor Drive, are now home for Barmuda Corporation, Barmuda Distribution, Phantom EFX, Phantom Distribution, and T8 Design.
UNI Multimodal Transportation Center Development Partner Award Located on 23rd Street, just east of Campbell Hall, this three-level facility provides 350 additional parking spaces and easier access to the campus. It is a stop for the Panther Shuttle, MET Transit and Safe Ride buses. Aerial Services, Inc. Redevelopment Investor Award Just short of one year after the 2008 recordbreaking floodwaters significantly damaged its Center Street location, Aerial Services, a provider of geospacial services, broke ground at Enterprise and Chancellor Drive. They had been located on Center Street since 1976. Community Main Street Tourism, Recreation & Entertainment Award The National Trust named Cedar Falls one of the 2010 Dozen Distinctive Destinations for Historic Preservation. The city’s Downtown District was a significant factor in Cedar Falls’ selection. Broad efforts have helped Cedar Falls receive this recognition, as well as the coveted Great American Main Street Award and state designaion “Arts and Cultural District”.
Holmes Junior High School Renovation Project 2010 Education Partner Award Construction began on this project in April of 2009. The renovation consists of a new 23,783 square feet building. The total budget for this project is $11,788,351 and funded with local option sales tax. BioLife Plasma Services New Investor Award BioLife Plasma Services is an industry leader in the collection of high quality plasma that is processed into life-saving plasma-based therapies. It is a part of the Baxter Healthcare Corporation. The new Cedar Falls BioLife facility represents a local investment in excess of $4.0 million. David Deaver Representative Citizen of the Year Award Dave Deaver has held many leadership roles. His broad range of contributions touch upon every facet of the community. His service extends to the entire Cedar Valley region. Dave is President of the First National Bank of Cedar Falls. He and his wife, Jan, have two grown daughters.
