Point-in-Time Counts provide a snapshot of the number of people experiencing homelessness within a community in a 24-hour period. The Point-in-Time Count serves two functions. First, it provides a count of the number of people experiencing homelessness in Kamloops over a specified period. It also gathers information on the demographics and service needs of the local population of unhoused individuals.
The City conducted a Point-in-Time Count on October 15 and October 16, 2025. Funding for this initiative comes from the federal government’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy grant. As part of the Reaching Home agreement, communities participate in nationally coordinated point‑in‑time counts. A count (enumeration) is required every year, while the survey is carried out once every three years. The 2025 Point-in-Time Count focused exclusively on the count and did not include the survey component. The next Point-in-Time Count with the survey is planned for 2027.
