CIS NEWSLETTER AUTUMN EDITION - OCTOBER 2026
I have written many introductions to our fantastic newsletter, but this one feels different. I, like other members of the team have always treated CIS as my own business, and now, more than ever, that feels like a reality. You can therefore imagine the immense pride I feel when I see the outstanding work our teams and individual colleagues have demonstrated and delivered this quarter.
A few words from Neill Catton, CEO
The content rightly deserves recognition, but the visuals this month also capture the genuine sense of togetherness shared by everyone associated with CIS. It is something we have built and nurtured over many years. Making it happen takes time, consistency of character and, above all, consistent action. I truly believe that if we continue to set our sights high and remain focused on delivering world-leading security, there is no limit to what we can achieve. We will always have competitors, but our ambition must be greater: not simply to keep pace, but to set the standard, shape the future and lead from the front.

CIS is incredibly proud of Shelby Martin for winning the Guest Speaker of the Year Award at the University of Westminster’s Partnership and Impact Awards! Shelby made an outstanding contribution to the University of Westminster’s South Asian student community through her participation in the How to Find Your Next Career Opportunity panel. Despite it being her first panel event, Shelby immediately connected with students through her warmth and practical advice, sharing valuable insights into job applications, networking and career development. What truly set Shelby apart, was the support she offered beyond the panel. She took the time to speak with students individually, providing tailored guidance and encouragement. She even continued to support a recent graduate who was struggling with confidence and finding employment, offering advice on entering the security sector and personally following up with further career guidance. Shelby’s willingness to go above and beyond, combined with her genuine passion for helping others succeed, has made a lasting impact on students and graduates across the Westminster community. As Shelby said: “Receiving the Guest Speaker of the Year Award from the University of
Westminster was a proud achievement and a testament to the value of
knowledge sharing and mentorship. I am grateful for the opportunity to
engage with students, contribute to their development, and support the next generation of professionals.”
Congratulations, Shelby! Your generosity and commitment to supporting

Remember what you access now comes from your next pay
Getting the most from PayWise+ gives you a range of tools to help you understand your earnings, build savings, make your money go further and access financial guidance and support. You also have the option to access a proportion of wages you’ve already earned before payday when you need some extra flexibility.
Here are some simple ways to get the most from your PayWise+ benefit: Keep track of what you’ve earned Use Track Your Earnings to see how your earnings are building throughout the pay period, alongside information about the shifts you’ve worked. Having greater visibility of your earnings can help you better understand your pay and make more informed decisions about your money.
Start building a buffer with Saving Pot
Putting even a small amount aside regularly can add up over time. Your Saving Pot makes it easy to save from your salary and start building a financial buffer, whether that’s for unexpected costs or something you’re saving towards. Your savings remain accessible, so they’re there when you need them.
Make your money go further with Vouchers
Before making an everyday purchase, check whether there’s a discounted voucher available through PayWise+. You can save on purchases with participating retailers, helping you get a little more from money you were already planning to spend. There’s no transaction fee when using the voucher feature, and participating retailers offer discounts to help your money go further.
Ask Penny when you have a financial question
Penny gives you a confidential place to ask financial questions and access general guidance and signposting. Whether you have a question about budgeting, saving or another money matter, Penny can help you explore useful information and point you towards relevant support. You can also access additional financial wellbeing content and support through Thrive.
56
Earned Wage Access changes when you receive some of your earnings; it doesn’t give you additional pay. Any wages you access before payday, along with the applicable transaction fees, will be reflected in your next pay. Keeping this in mind can help you understand what to expect when your normal payday arrives.
Know the fee before you confirm A transaction fee applies each time you use Earned Wage Access. Before confirming a withdrawal, PayWise+ will show you how much you can access and the applicable transaction fee, so you can see the cost before deciding whether to continue. Keep in mind that earned wage resets to 0 every 1st of the month.
Consider fewer withdrawals Because a transaction fee applies each time you access earned pay, making several smaller withdrawals can mean paying multiple transaction fees. If you know you need to access some of your earned pay, consider whether one or two withdrawals for the amount you need could work better. This can help reduce the total transaction fees you pay.
8 Check your history The History section in PayWise+ keeps a record of your previous Earned Wage Access transactions. Before making another withdrawal, it’s worth checking your History to see how much you’ve already accessed during the current pay period and the fees associated with those transactions. This can help you make an informed decision about whether, and how much, you want to access next.
Need some extra support PayWise+ gives you a range of tools designed to support your financial wellbeing and provide additional flexibility over wages you've already earned. Earned Wage Access isn't a debt solution or a replacement for professional financial support.

We are incredibly excited to announce that we have retained Paddington Square! What makes this news so special is the journey behind it. Since mobilisation, we have worked alongside our customer and partners to help shape, support and protect what has become an iconic and recognisable destination. We are proud of the partnership we have built, and most importantly, the people behind it. Every day, our colleagues bring professionalism and commitment to the site, delivering exceptional service standards that make achievements like this possible.
A message from our Operations Director, Domingo De Sousa, and Account Manager, Hakan Kagan: Proud moments, strong partnerships, and outstanding teamwork! “Since mobilising Paddington Square in late 2022, we’ve had the privilege of watching our team grow from strength to strength, developing into an award-winning unit that truly reflects the values and standards of CIS, and Paddington Sq. Retaining the security contract at such an iconic, flagship development is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication, professionalism and consistency of every member of our team. For us, this milestone represents much more than contract retention. It reflects the strength of our customer partnership, the trust built over time, and the collective effort that goes into delivering excellence every single day. We couldn’t be prouder of what we have all accomplished so far. A huge thank you to everyone involved for their continued commitment, hard work and contribution to this success. This is what happens when great people, strong leadership and a shared vision come together.”
Paddington Square’s Senior Building Manager, Alex Hardingham shares: “After an extensive and highly competitive tender process, we are delighted to have reappointed our incumbent security provider, CIS. While all bidders presented strong submissions, it was their consistent professionalism, transparency, integrity, and overall approach to supporting and developing the team that set them apart. Their investment in training and commitment to delivering exceptional service gave us the confidence that they remain the right partner for our building and occupiers. Congratulations to the entire team. We look forward to continuing our journey together and achieving even greater success in the years ahead.”

Thank you for your continued trust, and to everyone who has played a part in this success. We look forward to building on the continued success of Paddington Square.

This would showcase the security support available on campus, the external support offered through Safe Haven, the event and student engagement support provided through Zone 29, and the welfare and wellbeing services available through the Wellbeing Team.
CIS’ collaboration throughout the week of the University of Westminster
A huge well done to all involved!
Fairs was a great success. Presentations, engagement with students, staff and visitors, and overall professionalism were outstanding. The events were a tremendous success, and the feedback we received from students, guests and university staff was overwhelmingly positive. We experienced the highest level of engagement and footfall that we have ever seen at these events. Not only from our own perspective, but also from feedback received on the ground, our stand was regarded as one of the most interesting and engaging at the fairs. Our collaboration with the Safe Haven team worked exceptionally well. The panic, USB drives, and the personal safety and mobile phone security advice we were providing proved to be excellent conversation starters and generated significant interest amongst students. Most importantly, we were able to have meaningful discussions around personal safety and wellbeing. If those conversations help prevent even one serious incident involving a student, then we believe we have achieved something truly worthwhile.

Last month at The Leadenhall Building, our Security and Landing 42 teams took part in a terrorism awareness and scenario-based ACT session delivered by the City of London Police CTSA team. The session helped raise awareness of the ongoing threat from terrorism, whilst strengthening our security culture and building confidence in how we would respond to an incident. This was followed by a TLB tabletop discussion facilitated by our Head of Security, Joe Easterbrook, where the Landing 42 and Security teams worked through realistic event scenarios together and discussed how we would coordinate our response. It was a really interesting and informative session, and a great example of effective partnership working between The Leadenhall Building, Landing 42 and the City of London Police to help keep our building, occupiers and visitors safe. 94

At CIS, we recognise the vital importance of World Suicide Prevention Day and the ongoing need to open up conversations around mental health and wellbeing. Yesterday, representatives from our team attended the Consortium for the Prevention of Suicide’s National Conference. Amanda McCloskey, Alistair Sutherland, and Tracy Plant proudly represented CIS Security at the event, engaging in crucial discussions on how we can all work together to protect and support mental health within our industry. This mission is deeply important to us as an organisation. We believe that looking after our people goes far beyond everyday operations. Achieving key certifications such as BS 30480 stands as a true testament to our unwavering commitment to prioritise everyone’s mental health, providing a structured framework to ensure proper intervention, prevention, and workplace support.
Reflecting on the event, Bid Manager and TRiM Practitioner Rija Rawn shares these powerful words: “Today’s conference reinforced that every conversation matters. I believe that creating a culture where people feel supported, valued, and able to seek help is one of the most important commitments any organisation can make. The discussions throughout the day highlighted that meaningful change comes from turning awareness into action, challenging stigma, and fostering environments where well-being is prioritised. I am proud to be part of an organisation that is committed to supporting its people and helping drive positive change across our industry.”

At CIS, we are proud to have colleagues who dedicate their own time to supporting this important cause. Steve Downs and Spencer Mordue both volunteer with Samaritans, helping to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for people to talk about whatever they may be facing. Steve Downs shares: “Being there for someone when they need another human being the most. Volunteering has shown him the power of simply listening, particularly during the early hours of the morning when calls can often be at their highest. Every caller has their own story, and while not every conversation has an easy answer, Steve believes that “simply being present, listening with compassion, and allowing someone to be heard may have given them the comfort they needed at that point in time.” Spencer Mordue added: “I feel that we as security professionals have a lot to offer as we often encounter those in our society who are facing different challenges in life. The Samaritans’ 24/7 service provides callers with the opportunity to reach out whenever they need support, through telephone calls, online chat and other forms of communication. As Spencer explains, the conversations can sometimes be challenging, but thorough training and mentoring help volunteers to support callers with empathy and understanding.” Steve and Spencer’s commitment highlights the impact that compassion and empathy can have. We are so proud to recognise the time they give to Samaritans and the support they provide to people when they need it most.

When the unexpected happens, it takes people who understand risk, make good decisions under pressure, and know exactly what to do. Sometimes, it is a leaking pipe discovered during a night patrol or protestor activity targeting a temporary exhibition. Across museums, galleries and cultural venues, our teams are trusted to protect some of the UK’s most significant collections. That responsibility demands specialist expertise, not just a security presence. Our Security Professionals are often the first people on scene when a masterpiece, treasured artefact or collection of national significance is under threat. And, where there is damage or disruption, there is often a wider impact on the visitor’s journey, an institution’s reputation and its ability to operate effectively. That is why specialist training is so important. Through cultural enrichment and emergency salvage awareness, our teams gain both an appreciation of what is being protected and the practical knowledge to act decisively when incidents occur….because when something is truly irreplaceable, experience matters.

CIS NEWSLETTER AUTUMN EDITION - OCTOBER 2026
What really keeps financial institutions awake at night? It isn’t security incidents. It’s the reputational, operational and commercial impact when risk isn’t managed effectively. Working with a significant number of financial institutions across London, we have seen first-hand that security is about far more than controlling access or providing a visible presence.
The real value lies in understanding risk. From executive protection and business continuity to protestor activity, operational disruption and evolving physical threats, financial organisations face a unique set of challenges that demand more than a standard security solution. What we’ve learned is that effective security is rarely measured by the incidents that occur… but by those that are prevented.
Experience matters. Understanding how financial institutions operate, identifying vulnerabilities before they become issues, and implementing proportionate measures that protect people, assets and reputation without impacting business operations is what sets a true security partner apart from a security supplier. At CIS, we work with our customers to anticipate risk, strengthen resilience and support business continuity in some of the most demanding environments in London. In a sector built on trust and confidence, security shouldn’t be viewed as a service. It should be a strategic partner in resilience.

CIS TRAINING AND PROTECTION OF PREMISES As we look towards the implementation of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 – commonly referred to as Martyn’s Law – there is a real opportunity for us to support both our own teams and our customers in developing the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to protect people, premises and assets. The Act received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025, with the substantive requirements expected to come into force in spring 2027, subject to confirmation of the commencement date.
OUR APPROACH TO TRAINING Our philosophy is not simply to deliver training because legislation requires it. We want to translate legislation, policy and procedures into practical behaviours that people can apply under pressure.
EFFECTIVE TRAINING SHOULD ENABLE PEOPLE TO: f Recognise potential threats and suspicious behaviour. f Understand changing situations and identify potential escalation. f Communicate effectively during dynamic incidents. f Make informed, timely and proportionate decisions. f Understand their individual role and responsibilities. f Work effectively with colleagues and other stakeholders. f Build confidence and competence when dealing with complex and uncertain situations. Ultimately, training should turn written procedures into coordinated and effective incident response.
A LAYERED APPROACH We see this as a progression from individual capability to effective incident response, with different levels of training depending on an individual’s role and responsibility.
120

have responsibility for them, allowing us to develop a structured training plan. There is also a significant opportunity to take this training offer to our existing partners, suppliers and wider organisations. We can provide a clear training pathway from: Workforce awareness → Supervisor capability → Protective security → Responsible Person competence → Organisational preparedness → Effective incident response.
Level 2 is aimed primarily at frontline and public-facing colleagues – including security personnel, reception and front-of-house teams, facilities staff, event staff, stewards, supervisors, contractors and others who may observe suspicious behaviour, identify a developing threat and take appropriate action. The principle is simple: Level 2 - Everyone needs to know what to look for and what to do. Level 3 is aimed at those with greater responsibility for protective security, preparedness and organisational resilience, including security managers,
This is an area where I believe our practical approach to training can add real value. We are not just delivering classroom-based knowledge; we are developing the ability to recognise, interpret, anticipate, communicate and act when it matters most. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the rollout, identify the priority sites and individuals, and look at how we can build these courses into our wider training plan and commercial offering. There is a real opportunity here for us to position CIS as a leader in practical, proportionate and engaging protective-security training.
facilities and estates managers, venue and event managers, risk and resilience professionals, emergency planning teams and those responsible for meeting an organisation’s protective-security responsibilities. The principle here is: Level 3 - Those with responsibility need to understand how to assess risk and develop effective protective-security and preparedness arrangements. It is important to stress that completing either qualification does not, by itself, make an organisation compliant with Martyn’s Law. The qualifications provide the knowledge and foundation from which organisations can develop appropriate risk assessments, preparedness plans and protective-security arrangements.

ARE NEW WORKERS MORE LIKELY TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT? “Statistics show that workers are just as likely to have an accident during the first six months as for the remainder
of their working lives. Why is this, and what can you do to
ensure that they don’t become a statistic in your workplace.”

Every conversation counts. Every voice matters. This World Mental Health Day, CIS recognised the importance of mental wellbeing and this year’s theme: “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.” Everyone’s experience of mental health is different, and listening to those experiences is an important step towards creating meaningful change. By encouraging open conversations, challenging stigma and ensuring people feel heard and supported, we can all play a part in building a more understanding and inclusive workplace. At CIS, we believe that looking out for one another starts with the little things. Taking the time to listen, checking in with a colleague or offering support can make a real difference. Today, and every day, let’s continue to make space for honest conversations, listen without judgment, and recognise the importance of every voice. Looking for support or advice? Explore the Mental Health Foundation’s World Mental Health Day resources for guidance on talking about mental health, listening to others and looking after your wellbeing. https://lnkd.in/ejdYVy9d
