Vol. 14

This will be the last newsletter of the season until next year!

It has been an absolute pleasure coaching your sprinters this season and the rest of the coaching staff would like to thank everyone for their time, effort, and sacrifices this season. It was a long one this time around but absolutely worth it.

This past weekend were the CaliforniaTrack and Field State Championships at Buchanan High School in Clovis, California. We had four athletes compete, Leed Smoole in the 100m and 200m,Anastasia Volkov in the high jump, Janae Stanley Castillo for shot put, and Chiara Dailey in the 1600m and 3200m where she ended up winning the 3200m and will leave La Jolla High as the California Girls State Champion for that event! Way to go Chiara! Very well earned with all of her hard work and dedication to the sport.

I just want to say thank you for all the support this season, it was a pleasure to work with everyone whether it be coaching, running the dual meets, executing the Viking Relays, planning the banquet and senior night, and everything else in between. It has been a true pleasure and I cannot wait to do it all over again next time.

Just so everyone knows, Ben and I will be holding strength sessions over the summer, fall and winter (all year round). Not much running will be done but will include some days of plyometrics/wicket (banana hurdle) training. As of right now our weight sessions are going to be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm-6pm. One day will be for lower body (legs), another day for chest and upper body, and a day for back muscles + arms. This is mainly for athletes that are not competing in another sport and want to maintain the strength they accumulated over the season. If any of your athletes are able to make it, please have them join. We are made aware of so many injuries when the normal season starts which puts some of our relay teams and individual event runners out of commission.

If you are unable to find a ride or the time to bring them to the school weight room during the summer, it is completely understandable and will not negatively affect your athlete’s participation for the next track season. Please have them do some type of running and/or lifting during their time away from the team. I know it takes time and patience but trust me it will be worth it.

I look forward for next year! -

please provide me with some type of feedback regarding this weekly email I send out.

Most of the information sent out throughout the season is from Coach Ciro but if you would like to see some different ideas or information please let me know.

If you would like to not receive these in the future, please let me know of that as well.

If anyone has pictures or videos of the season and would like to share them, please send them to me or submit them here via Google Drive It would be helpful as we use them to create senior banners, have pictures distributed at the end of season banquet and pictures to use of course for the newsletter.Thank you all in advance!

Should anyone like the contact information of any of the coaches please let me know and I will supply either their email or phone number depending.

My virtual door will always be open to any questions, comments or concerns anyone may have!
