RASIK MALHOTRA
BUILDING THE TRUST LAYER FOR AN AI-DRIVEN WORLD
Inthe world of enterprise cybersecurity, few disciplines carry the weight of Identity Governance and Administration. It is the invisible architecture that determines who gets access to what, when, and why. It is also the discipline that most organizations underestimated for over a decade, until the cost of getting it wrong became impossible to ignore.
For Rasik Malhotra, the Cybersecurity Partner and Director at Technoware Solutions, identity has never been an afterthought. It has been the foundation of a career spanning more than sixteen years, three continents, and some of the most complex digital transformations in the enterprise world.
Today, as artificial intelligence reshapes every facet of cybersecurity, from threat detection to autonomous access provisioning, Rasik stands at a
unique intersection of deep domain expertise and forward-looking vision. He is not merely adapting to the age ofAI. He has been preparing for it since the earliest days of identity governance, when the very concept of IGAwas still finding its footing in the enterprise technology landscape.
Where ItAll Began: The Early Days of Identity
Rasik's journey into identity governance started at a time when most organizations did not even have a name for the problem they were trying to solve. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, identity management was a fragmented discipline. Companies relied on manual provisioning, disconnected directories, and ad hoc access reviews. There were no established playbooks, no mature vendor ecosystems, and very few
practitioners who understood the full scope of what identity governance could become.
While many IT professionals were focused on network security and perimeter defense, Rasik recognized something fundamental: the perimeter was dissolving. As cloud adoption accelerated and workforces became distributed, the identity of the user, the device, and the application would become the true security boundary. That conviction led him to invest deeply in understanding platforms like Oracle Identity Governance, SailPoint, Saviynt, and eventually Microsoft Entra ID, long before they became household names in the enterprise security world.
In his early career, where he spent over a decade building expertise across diverse industries, gave him a
firsthand understanding of how identity challenges manifest in largescale, complex environments. From banking and finance to healthcare and government, Rasik worked across sectors where compliance requirements were stringent, user populations were massive, and the margin for error was razor-thin.
Building Technoware Solutions:A Consulting Firm with a Mission
Technoware Solutions was born from a simple but powerful premise: that organizations deserve an IAM partner who understands not just the technology, but the business context in which it operates. Named the Most Promising Identity Governance and Administration Service Company and recognized as a Thought Leader in the IAM Space, Technoware has built a reputation for delivering enterprisegrade identity solutions with precision, speed, and integrity.
Unlike many consulting firms that treat IAM as a checkbox exercise, Technoware approaches every engagement as a strategic partnership. Rasik and his team work with clients to design comprehensive identity programs that address the full lifecycle: from initial assessment and solution design, through implementation, testing, and deployment, to ongoing managed services and continuous optimization.
The firm's client roster includes Fortune 100 companies and enterprises across banking, healthcare, biotechnology, media, logistics, and government. What sets Technoware apart is its ability to operate across the full spectrum of identity platforms, including Microsoft Entra ID, Saviynt, SailPoint, Oracle, One Identity, Path
Lock, Omada etc. while maintaining the agility of a boutique consultancy.
Rasik's hands-on leadership style means he remains deeply involved in solution architecture and client delivery, even as the company scales. He believes that the most effective consulting happens when leadership stays close to the work, not just close to the deal.
AGlobal Perspective: USA, India, the Middle East and Beyond
Rasik's career has been defined by a willingness to go where the challenges are greatest. With over a decade of hands-on experience across USA's complex, large-scale enterprise environments serving Fortune 100 organizations, deep roots in the Indian market, and a growing presence in the Middle East region with a particular emphasis on Dubai and the broader UAE, Rasik continues to operate and deliver across some of the world's most demanding identity governance landscapes. It is a deliberate strategy: to build Technoware Solutions into a truly global practice by serving
customers wherever the need is greatest and the ambition is highest.
The MEAregion presents a unique set of identity governance challenges. Rapid digital transformation initiatives, driven by ambitious national visions like the UAE's Digital Government Strategy, have created enormous demand for sophisticated IAM and IGAsolutions. At the same time, the regulatory environment is evolving quickly, with data localization requirements, crossborder compliance mandates, and a growing emphasis on cloud-first infrastructure.
Rasik's ability to bridge the technical, cultural, and regulatory dimensions of identity governance across multiple geographies has made him a trusted advisor to organizations navigating complex digital transformations. His work in the MEAregion has reinforced a core belief: that identity governance is not a one-size-fits-all discipline. It must be tailored to the specific business, regulatory, and cultural context of every organization it serves.
AI Meets Identity: HowArtificial Intelligence Is Reshaping IAM and IGA
If there is one theme that defines the current era of cybersecurity, it is the convergence of artificial intelligence and identity. For Rasik, this convergence represents both the greatest opportunity and the greatest challenge his industry has ever faced.
AI is already transforming identity governance in profound ways. Machine learning algorithms now power risk-based access decisions, identifying anomalous behavior patterns that would take human analysts hours or days to detect. Automated access reviews, once a tedious and error-prone manual process, are increasingly driven byAI models that can evaluate entitlement risk, flag over-provisioned accounts,
and recommend remediation actions in real time.
Microsoft Entra ID, one of the platforms at the heart of Technoware's practice, has become a powerful example of this transformation. With AI-powered identity protection, adaptive multi-factor authentication, and intelligent conditional access policies, Entra ID is evolving from a directory service into a comprehensive identity security platform. Rasik and his team are at the forefront of helping enterprises leverage these capabilities, particularly around Identity Governance features like access reviews, entitlement management, lifecycle workflows, and privileged identity management.
Beyond operational efficiency,AI is enabling a fundamental shift in how organizations think about identity.
Instead of reactive, compliancedriven governance, enterprises can now implement proactive, riskinformed identity programs that continuously adapt to changing business conditions, emerging threats, and evolving regulatory requirements.
Cloud Security and the Identity Imperative
The migration to cloud infrastructure has fundamentally altered the security equation for every enterprise. In a world where data, applications, and workloads exist across multiple cloud environments, traditional perimeterbased security models are no longer sufficient. Identity has become the new perimeter, and the quality of an organization's identity governance program directly determines its security posture.
Rasik has been a vocal advocate for what he calls an identity-first approach to cloud security. Rather than bolting identity controls onto existing cloud architectures as an afterthought, he helps organizations design their cloud environments with identity governance embedded from the ground up. This means integrating single sign-on, conditional access, entitlement management, and lifecycle automation into the foundational architecture of every cloud deployment.
This approach is particularly critical in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, where organizations operate acrossAzure,AWS, Google Cloud, and on-premises systems simultaneously. Without a unified identity governance layer, these environments create fragmented access policies, orphaned accounts, and visibility gaps that attackers are increasingly skilled at exploiting.
The
AgenticAI
Revolution:ANew Frontier for Identity Governance
IfAI-powered automation represents the current chapter of identity governance's evolution, agenticAI represents the next.AutonomousAI agents, software entities capable of reasoning, planning, and executing multi-step tasks without human intervention, are rapidly becoming a fixture of the enterprise technology landscape. And they are fundamentally challenging every assumption that traditional IAM systems were built upon.
Industry research paints a striking picture. Non-human identities already outnumber human identities by a factor of fifty to one in the average enterprise environment, and that ratio is projected to reach eighty to one within two years.Autonomous agents are now operating across public clouds, on-premises systems, and private cloud environments, creating a distributed identity surface that legacy IAM frameworks were never designed to handle. Only a fraction of security leaders today express high confidence that their current IAM systems can effectively manage agent identities.
For Rasik, this challenge is not abstract. It is the defining issue of the next decade for identity professionals. AgenticAI introduces a fundamentally new class of identity that must be governed with the same rigor as human identities, but with entirely different architectural approaches.
Microsoft's recent introduction of EntraAgent ID is a significant step in this direction, extending identity governance capabilities toAI agents as a distinct, purpose-built identity class. Rasik sees this as validation of a trend he has been anticipating for years: that identity governance must evolve from managing people and applications to managing an entire ecosystem of human, machine, and agentic identities.
The implications extend beyond technology.AsAI agents begin to take autonomous actions, execute financial transactions, access sensitive data, and coordinate with other agents, questions of accountability, auditability, and trust become paramount. Who is responsible when an agent exceeds its intended scope? How do you enforce least-privilege access for an entity that dynamically adapts its behavior? How do you
maintain an audit trail for actions taken by systems that operate at speeds no human reviewer can match?
These are the questions that Rasik believes will define the next era of identity governance. And they are the questions that Technoware Solutions is actively helping its clients prepare to answer.
AI Security: Protecting the Systems That Protect Us
The conversation aboutAI and identity cannot be limited to howAI enhances governance. It must also address how identity governance protectsAI itself. As enterprises deploy large language models, generativeAI tools, and agentic systems into production environments, the attack surface expands in ways that traditional security models struggle to address.
Prompt injection attacks, data exfiltration throughAI tools, shadow AI deployments, and the use of personal credentials to access unsanctioned generativeAI services represent a growing threat landscape. Research indicates that a significant majority of knowledge workers are
bringing their ownAI tools into the workplace, often without security or identity oversight. This creates a shadowAI problem analogous to the shadow IT challenge that plagued enterprises during the early days of cloud adoption.
Rasik's approach toAI security is characteristically grounded in identity. By extending zero-trust principles to everyAI interaction, enforcing conditional access policies onAI tool usage, and implementing governance frameworks for agentic systems, organizations can maintain control without stifling innovation.
LookingAhead: The Future of Identity in anAI-Driven World
As Rasik looks toward the next decade, his vision for identity governance is both expansive and precise. He sees a future where identity becomes the universal control plane for every digital interaction, governing not just who accesses what, but howAI agents operate, how machine-to-machine communications are authenticated, and how trust is continuously validated across increasingly complex ecosystems.
He anticipates a convergence of identity governance, cloud security, andAI security into a unified discipline, one that treats every identity, human, machine, or agentic, as a first-class citizen with its own lifecycle, policies, and accountability framework. This convergence will be driven by platform innovations like Microsoft Entra's expanding identity suite, but ultimately enabled by practitioners who understand both the technology and the business context in which it operates.
For Technoware Solutions, the roadmap is clear: continue building deep expertise at the intersection of IGA, cloud security, andAI security; expand the firm's global footprint across theAmericas, Middle East, and Asia; and remain relentlessly focused on delivering measurable value to every client engagement.
sixteen years in one of cybersecurity's most demanding disciplines, Rasik's approach to leadership is refreshingly grounded. He leads by example, staying close to the technical work while maintaining a strategic perspective on where the industry is headed. He values precision over hype, substance over spectacle, and long-term relationships over transactional engagements.
His leadership philosophy reflects the discipline of identity governance itself: methodical, thorough, and always focused on the fundamentals. Whether he is advising a client on their IGAhealth check, or navigating the complexities of a multi-vendor IAM ecosystem, Rasik brings the same commitment to excellence that has defined his career from the very beginning.
As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, one thing remains constant: the centrality of identity. And in Rasik Malhotra, the industry has a leader who has been building toward this moment for more than a decade and a half, quietly, methodically, and with a clarity of vision that is rare in an industry often distracted by the latest trend.
In a world where every digital interaction begins with an identity, Rasik Malhotra is ensuring that the foundation holds.

He says, "I then typically have team meetings to ensure all is being done by my direct reports. The fun typically starts thereafter when I get to interact with VigiTrust clients and partners and with members of the Advisory Board.” Mathieu takes a midafternoon break most days and returns to doing emails or research in the evenings.
VigiTrust has lived several lives as a VRA, training company, auditing firm, and now as a SaaS provider in
the GRC cybersecurity market. Mathieu asserts, "I am proud that we are growing 40-50% in revenue year over year with great margins and very little churn from our subscribed SaaS users."
Mathieu wanted VigiTrust to be a multi-cultural, open, and fairly flat structure. To date, his team has been great to work with, and every time they move up a notch and grow the team again, the management adjusts the culture to maintain its open culture but also puts in place the right structures that match the company's size. The company states, "All at Vigitrust have a very consultative approach towards how we work with clients and partners, and this is also part of the DNA of a company, something I'd highly recommend all CEOs value."
AGreat Team is Essential in Difficulties.
As a CEO and an entrepreneur, Mathieu is faced with new challenges every day at work. His core expertise is in sales and security and compliance. He deals with finances, profit and loss oversight, fundraising, HR, product management, and many other areas where he may not be the foremost expert. He says, "The only way to deal with this is to surround yourself with people that are better than you in those areas and have more experience than you. Even if the ultimate decisions and responsibilities remain yours, you have to trust other people's views and work as a team.” He surrounded himself with a great team including, COO, Rowan Fogarty, who brings 30 years' experience in team management, operations, and planning and CFO, Mary Clarke, who provides great financial advice as well as external advisors.
Achievements throughout the Journey
To name but a few milestones, VigiTrust started working with the Secure Printing Division of HP in Europe and then in the US in the period 2005-2099. This really brought VigiTrust to the next stage in terms of enterprise cybersecurity, consulting, and speaking opportunities. In 2012, VigiTrust started working withAccor Hotels and this relationship has now developed into an amazing strategic partnership for both organizations –one that is the only official case study from the PCI Council on how to roll out an enterprise-wide PCI program for smaller merchants, in this case, individual properties.
The 5 Pillars of Security Framework™ has won a few awards and is now a well-recognized framework to educate boards and Csuite level on cyber responsibility. It is also the main subject of Mathieu's recently published Forbes book titled The Cyber Elephant in the Boardroom, which achieved the #1 best seller onAmazon earlier in 2021.
Constantly Innovating and Evolving to Expand
According to Mathieu, VigiTrust is in scaling mode; therefore, his major goal is to maintain the development trajectory he and his management team and board have established. This is expected to include funding to support worldwide expansion, particularly in the United States, France, Germany, andAustralia/New Zealand, which are currently performing exceptionally well for the firm. VigiTrust will continue to innovate and address the everevolving legal and industry standards landscape regarding data protection and compliance. The VigiTrust Advisory Board will continue to continuously monitor the security and compliance environment. The organization is currently integrating
AI and ML, as well as blockchain, into its 2021 roadmap. As explained earlier, the VigiTrustAdvisory Board is very unique and allows VigiTrust to innovate at all times.
What Success Means for Mathieu
Defining success is always a very personal thing. For Mathieu, it's about creating something, a service or solution, that adds value and helps people address challenges and resolve issues. In his case, he has always been keen on ensuring that key decisionmakers understand the concept of cyber responsibility. To that effect, he created VigiTrust, which now has users in over 120 countries across multiple industries. He also created and now chairs the VigiTrust Global Advisory Board, whose 700+ members are eminent security and compliance subject matter experts from 30 countries. He thinks that the combinations are exceedingly successful, and he considers himself very privileged that VigiTrust has become such a great success.
MELKEYA MCDUFFIE
AN HR LEADER COMMITTED TO BUILD MORE LEADERS
An executive, a doctoral student, an advisory board member, an author, a mother, and a wife, Melkeya McDuffie, Chief Human Resources Officer of The Wallace Foundation wears many hats with immense joy while she makes her way towards success.
Over the span of her career, Melkeya has received many awards and recognitions, but she considers being credited for the development and success of other leaders as her biggest achievements.

To her, success is not just reaching one's maximum potential but helping others grow and reach theirs. In her words, "Success is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others”
Discovering Her Path
More than 20 years ago, when Melkeya began her HR career, there was a leader who saw the potential in Melkeya and offered her an HR role in Learning & Organizational Development, this marked the beginning of her career. After that, she held many HR leadership roles with large global companies in the financial, healthcare, and environmental services industries.
She was also the Enterprise Vice President of Organizational & Talent Development for Waste Management, a 50,000-employee environmental services company headquartered in Houston, Texas
with more than $14 billion in annual revenue. Throughout her career, she got the opportunity to meet many inspirational leaders who mentored her, supported her and believed in her ability which helped her climb the success ladder.
In 2020 an opportunity presented itself to Melkeya and she made the decision to join The Wallace Foundation as its Chief Human Resources Officer. She adds, “I was drawn to Wallace's mission and purpose, its leadership team, and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A commitment that extended beyond talk or words on paper, but a commitment towards operationalizing these elements so that it is seen and felt both internally and through the work that we do in support of others.”
An Independent National Philanthropy
The Wallace Foundation is one of the 50 largest independent foundations in the U.S. It is a national philanthropy based in New York City that seeks to foster improvements in learning and enrichment for children and the vitality of the arts for everyone. The foundation aims to develop knowledge about how to solve social problems, and promote widespread solutions based on that knowledge, by funding projects to test ideas, commissioning independent research to find out what works, and communicating the results to help practitioners, policymakers and leading thinkers.
Life as a Chief Human Resources Officer
As a CHRO, Melkeya serves as a
CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER WALLACE FOUNDATION
key member of the leadership team. She is responsible for driving an innovative, people-first culture centered on building team and leadership capability and cultivating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She oversees employee relations, organizational development, culture, total rewards, talent acquisition, and HR technology. She reports directly to the President and works closely with the Board of Directors as the primary liaison to the Governance and Compensation Committee.
Throughout her career, Melkeya has seen the role of HR evolve exponentially. She says, "As an HR leader it is imperative that we serve as strategic partners and change agents within the business. This first begins with ensuring that you build and/or hire the right talent for your team. Two important core competencies to look for when hiring are integrity and innovation. So beyond hiring for these attributes you must continue to hone and cultivate these by creating a space to fail safely and recognizing and incentivizing innovation.”
What Doesn't Break You Makes You Stronger
The road to success is often riddled with hurdles and Melkeya believes that these challenges act as the stepping stones for success as they only make us stronger and wiser. She too has encountered her fair share of challenges. “Some of the more pivotal lessons for me were around this idea of 'adaptive authenticity.'
Authenticity is often viewed as a strict coherence between your actions and your values. However, 'strict coherence' might be inhibiting one's
growth. Therefore, it is important to maintain a growth mindset and an open attitude. Adaptive authenticity is about allowing your true self to become something more - an evolved version of your former self,” she shares.
AClear Cultural Vision
Melkeya's vision for The Wallace Foundation is to have a clear, inspirational cultural vision that is strongly anchored in everything it does. Your cultural vision should be an aspirational statement which serves to define 'how' you work as a team and 'how' we will support the communities that we serve. The cultural vision statement should reflect the values that the organization holds high, such as diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and become part of the cultural fabric. Therefore, work on the vision can't be treated as an initiative that is easily shelved when other priorities come into view.
A Source of Inspiration
Melkeya is committed to continuous learning and the development of others. She strives to improve in all areas of her life, hoping that she might serve as a source of inspiration to someone, as so many have been a source of inspiration for her.
Melkeya has her own unique definition of success and encourages other women leaders to establish their own definitions. She advises, "Set clear, attainable goals, and smash the heck out of them!"
AHMED DETTA
SHAPING A SUSTAINABLE, CIRCULAR ECONOMY WITH THE POWER OF RECYCLING
With plastic pollution advancing at an unprecedented rate and continually posing a serious threat to humanity, several leaders have taken action to limit plastic waste and recycle it responsibly. One such changemaker is the Founder and CEO of Enviroo Ltd,Ahmed Detta. He came up with the concept to bring a change in human's existing relationship with plastic and driving change by creating habitual behavioural patterns that are easy to adopt and implement. Brimming with passion about restructuring the current recycling industry, his recycling career has evolved from recycling mobile phones, office IT equipment, and progressed to plastic.
He says, “We are all guilty of lambasting plastic but not actually working collaboratively to create solutions. Recycling, if done correctly an opportunity to make a positive change to the world that encapsulates both environmental and social impact gains.”
Laying the foundation of Enviroo Ltd
Enviroo came into existence when Ahmed decided to meet the UN SDGs and create a super-effective social impact strategy and DNA level circular economy approach to bring about change. His industrious team will be creating food-grade polymers to a recognized standard globally.
Every company faces numerous hurdles in its path to success. Enviroo also faced many problems, and the biggest setback was posed by the lack of legislation. However, Ahmed and his tenacious team
always strived hard to conquer the macro challenges faced by the industry and focussed on overcoming all the local challenges to make their mark.
The strong teamwork and a good dose of patience paved their way to success and assisted them in getting over all the impediments on the way.
Overview of Enviroo Ltd
Being an agile and nimble organization, the company stays ready to adapt and react as per the industry changes, and this has offered them an edge over other competitors in a perfect manner. The team at Enviroo always supports as well as interacts with all the industry bodies to be aware of all the upcoming challenges they may face and find relevant solutions beforehand.
Dedicated to making a difference in the world, Enviroo always stays one step ahead with its social impact commitments. They have re-branded to Enviroo and have amalgamated social impact with innovative technology to develop a better environment that is best suited for both current and future generations.
Transforming the Recycling Industry with Enviroo Ltd
Enviroo aims to strike on bringing a shift in the behavioral habits of plastic users so that no plastic gets dumped in the oceans or landfills. The company is responsible for recycling 100% of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic waste and creating unity among all the circular economy stakeholders. Also, this change is only possible if the entire landscape of the plastic
industry gets ready to bend and people witness the implementation of stringent protocols and regulations in the best way.
Ahmed shares, “Contribution to this growth has stemmed from the belief that Enviroo is providing a long-term solution. When you take a long-term view, growth, and scale, this becomes a very clear process that is both tangible and achievable.”
Ahmed has formulated a 5-step process for responsible recycling:
1.Collection of PET plastic by Local Authorities or Waste Operators, which is purchased by Enviroo for further processing.
2.At Enviroo, the processing of the plastic waste is done via a wash line that produces flakes.
3.Then, the transferring process of these flakes to an extruder takes place that converts them into polymers.
4.All these polymers are later used to design pre-molds for bottles by manufacturers.
5.The manufacturers transform the pre-molds into bottles which are then distributed for client consumption
Awards &Accolades
As Enviroo begins to implement its operations successfully, it has been called a Disrupter in the field of recycling. Some of the recent awards include being ranked 10th Most Disruptive Company in the UK as per Disruption50 Index by Disruption Hub, Most Progressive Circular Economy Recycling Firm 2019 by
Build Magazine, Social Impact
Accreditation Issued by the Social Stock Exchange, one of the top disruptive Tech companies to watch in 2020 by Industry Wired, Top Revolutionary Tech Companies of the year 2020 by GlobalTech Outlook.
InsideAhmed's Life
Ahmed always wanted to revamp the present recycling industry, and he became successful by ethically recycling plastic waste with smart
solutions. So, after completing his BSc of Science in Marketing at Lancaster University in 2003, he went on to pursue jobs in marketing until he took the onus of becoming the Program Director at The Green Foundation. After 1 year, he enrolled for his post-graduation in Sustainable Business from the University of Cambridge. Since then, he worked in numerous roles until he became a founder of Ducycle in 2014 in the UAE.
He is currently pursuing MBAin BusinessAdministration and Management from Quantic School of Business and Technology and will graduate in 2021.
After attaining success,Ahmed wanted to achieve the same success via Enviroo in the UK in 2018. His prime role as the CEO involves Stakeholder engagement, driving growth/profitability/ championing recycling in the industry, and creating long-term solutions. He even keeps his team motivated by ensuring that their immense knowledge is creating
a huge difference in the world. He further explains, “Every single piece of plastic recycled will make a monumental difference over the long term to preserve the beautiful earth we live on for future generations to come.”
Future Roadmap of Enviroo Ltd
Ahmed shares, “We plan to look at a number of different forms of plastic recycling. Once we have established our Polymers across the industry, our next mission is to look at 'tray to tray' recycling as well as PP materials.”
Ahmed had always aimed to make plastic recycling a positive habit that must be inculcated in everyday behavior and instill the belief that profiteering from this process is good for all involved. He led the entire business model from its concept to full equity investment funding for a recycling facility in the Middle East. In the future, he plans to replicate the same model of creating a visionary recycling business across the UK market as well.
BRENT KRUEL
REVOLUTIONIZING
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH THROUGH TECHNOLOGYENABLED SOLUTIONS
The modern healthcare sector must widely adopt information technology to survive in the current digital era. To prove their mettle, outshine others, and lay a solid foundation for the adoption of contemporary, effective and customized digital technology in the rapidly expanding healthcare sector, leaders must step outside of their comfort zones and grasp the rapidly changing environment.
Brent, the founder, and CEO of BioFunctional Health Solutions, has a passion for technology. His extensive experience over the past three decades has given him a keen understanding of how to operationalize solutions into the lives of just about anyone.Although he performs these roles, he spends most of his time developing and implementing, tech-enabled, health and wellness solutions. Brent openly admits that both his formal training and work in healthcare administration have given him a passion and special aptitude for finding the best health and wellness goods and services.
“Legacy is only secured in people that are nurtured by an empathetic leader. All other success is meaningless and temporary.”- Brent Kruel
Atypical day in Brent's office includes discussions with other executives of big businesses about how to attract and keep the best talent by looking out for all workers. He also devotes a lot of time to looking into the health and wellness sector for new goods and services that can considered and including in the service offerings of his own business. He has discovered that although there are a staggering
number of software-based options available, getting people to use them effectively necessitates a hands-on approach. This is something his company accomplishes by utilizing registered nurses as coaches to increase compliance and help close the gaps that may come from a lack of knowledge and understanding.
In a word, Brent defines himself as loving. He says, "I am empathetic, love people, and am passionate about healing and the possibility of making people the best versions of themselves."
Years of Transformation
Though Brent was a standout wrestler and track athlete in high school, he declined college scholarships to join theAir Force. He served in the military as a combat communications specialist and finished his first combat deployment during Operation Uphold Freedom in Haiti. Thanks to his exposure of the most cuttingedge computer and communications technology while serving in the military, he developed and mastered a foundation for success in leveraging technology to improve health and wellness.
Brent was selected to attend the United StatesAir ForceAcademy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs and quickly distinguished himself as a four-time, WesternAthletic Conference (WAC), student athlete of the year. While at the academy, he suffered a fractured spine during jump qualification training, which was a formative experience for him and led him to develop a passion for health and wellness. His injury threatened not only his performance

on the track, but also his career in the Air Force.
Brent graduated from the United StatesAir ForceAcademy (USAFA), in May 2000. He held the title, Distinguished Graduate, the highest honor bestowed by theAcademy. Soon after graduation, Brent began his career as a healthcare administrator. As a young lieutenant in theAir Force, he was privileged to be given a lot of responsibility. He was immediately given the role of managing a $30 million construction project, along with supply and logistics. This was a huge accomplishment and honor for him as he was the youngest chief information officer in theAir Force.
Brent was commissioned in theAir Force as a medical officer. He further distinguished himself by being honored with anAir Force-level award as #1 of 23,000 officers named the Information Systems Officer of the Year. He also was selected as the Air Force's lowest-ranking and youngest Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the largest VA/DoD hospital in Las Vegas, NV. During his second combat tour, Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was chosen to oversee the largest hospital in Iraq. He left the Air Force in 2007 and started working as a corporate executive in a range of healthcare and technology settings to pursue a career in commercial health and wellness.
As a second lieutenant competing against officers with over 20 years of experience, Brent was named theAir Force's top information systems officer of the year for 2001, making him the youngest and most junior officer to ever receive the honor.
Making Every Step towards the Success
There were many small steps leading up to Brent's personal leap into being an entrepreneur. In 2007, when he retired from theAir Force, as a medical service corps officer, he joined the upper management of the nation's largest healthcare payer technology company. He was promoted quickly and as he adjusted to the commercial sector; he became more comfortable with the increasing responsibility of the roles he was entrusted with. He recalls, "Within four years of separating from the Air Force, I had my first 8-figure P&L that I was responsible for." This grew rapidly, and Brent learned how to grow companies by investing in and trusting quality people. He was always drawn to physical and mental health and made this a passion in every role he was in.
Brent's perspective on success is centered on leaving a lasting legacy, which can only be realized by people. He focuses his energy on helping people become the best versions of themselves through physical and mental well-being. His hope is that the BHS will help others do the same.

VANIA JUSSARA
AN INSIGHTFUL BUSINESS LEADER WITH A DESIRE TO DEVELOP & CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES IN BUSINESS
Vania Jussara is the Chief Talent Officer and Chief People Officer of The Bank of London Group - a next-generation technology company building the world's first purpose-built global agency, clearing and transaction bank and. Vania is an insightful and influential business leader with experience in designing and setting up business units and operations worldwide. She continues to be fascinated by the relationship between behaviour and environment - the sweet spot where the desire to develop and contribute meets sustaining growth opportunities.
Inspiration to be an HR
“We invest most of our time awake during our life working. It is the best part of our days, the best years of our lives. However, for many people, working is not living. When they talk about the work-life balance, they have 'living' in opposition to 'working',” states Vania. She likes to think that
working is part of living instead. It is the contribution you bring to the world around you in your sphere of influence. Vania chose HR and joined The Bank of London to enable this experience to be meaningful and to enrich people's lives.
Anthony Watson, our CEO and Founder, has a clear ambition to be a different type of Bank. Having worked for fantastic big companies, Vania says that she has seen both, outstanding and poor experiences. She wants to be part of a team who will co-create a unique work experience.
Success is the feeling of fulfilment
Vania believes that: success is to look back and know and feel you had a rich and fulfilling life. The best way to identify what is important to you is to think about your 100 years birthday party. When you reflect on who will be there, what they will talk about and what will be your dearest memories, you
CHIEF TALENT OFFICER THE BANK OF LONDON GROUP
gain perspective of what is success for you. We tend to live life believing it is eternal, albeit we know it is not. Thinking of the end brings us wisdom on how to use the most precious resources we have: our time and our attention.
Challenges make you stronger
At The Bank of London, they are always looking for exceptional talent. “If you reflect on your life, you will see that the moments you learned the most were the ones you were challenged—the ones you had to have the grit to overcome difficulties or barriers. But not everyone will learn through hardship; we all know people that have been through multiple experiences without changing. It is essential to believe you can grow and develop to do so,” says Vania.
Many situations in Vania's career were tricky. Once, she was hired to do a job in the UK, six months later, they were relocating to Denmark. The initial was hard, new language, culture, and industry. There were many moments when she asked herself, “What am I doing? Could I make that work?” Denmark ended up being one of her career highlights. She states that she learnt to love and cherish that beautiful country and culture, but first and foremost, she realised that they could do it, as it was a family experience; they had a fantastic experience there and learned a lot.
Bank of London and its services
Bank of London has the world's first purpose-built global payments and clearing platform via a singleAPI. It extends its cutting-edge capabilities and technology directly and as a BaaS solution to all customer segments.
The Bank of London offers safe and frictionless payment and account solutions to financial and nonfinancial institutions for global money movements and cash management with a capital-efficient model.
Vania's contribution to Human Resources
You do the small things thinking about the big stuff. We think, design and implement people processes to enable the work experience to be meaningful and to enrich our colleagues' lives. Vania believes that the utmost objective is to understand what our external customers need and shape the organisation to deliver exceptional products or experiences.
“Let me give an example: In September, we will communicate our performance development approach. It is future-focused and acknowledges that every conversation a colleague has with their leader is a performance conversation about their contribution. We want to move away from unhelpful and unproductive performance reviews about something that happened 12 months ago,” she explains.
Importance
of innovative ideas in business
Innovation is key.At The Bank of London, they have a value that says, 'We learn. Fast.' In doing so, they acknowledge that they will not get everything right, but they value scar tissue and the ability to change their minds and course correct.
“I am surrounded by exceptional talent that joined the bank of London to create their life's work. Rebecca Skitt, our Co-President and Chief Administrative Officer, talks about the
ones that have challenged the status quo and brought in fresh ideas. We call them exceptional,” Vania notes.
Vania's vision for the company and influencing change
Vania states that at The Bank of London they want to create an inclusive culture. An environment everyone can bring themselves, contribute and be productive. “The best thing about creating something new is that you have no legacy to change. It is thinking from the start and designing how you would like to be. However, our colleagues and leaders come from different backgrounds and contexts,” she says.
The challenge, then, is to rethink your own experience and accept or welcome another way of doing it and continuing with the Performance example. They were trained on a reductionist approach: Describe five things; do five things - you have performed. However, everyone knows this is not true. They want to take a holistic perspective and think of contribution instead. “What and how have you contributed to the team, the Bank of London, and the Society around you? It is more challenging and requires judgement, as all meaningful experiences do,” Vania further explains.
Beginning of Vania's career and recognition achieved
Vania started her career in market research. Human behaviour always fascinated her. The immense capability we have to create incredible things but also to cause significant harm. One of the many Mentors she had throughout her career invited her to join the HR team. He spotted Vania's passion for
behaviour, her multiple questions and opinions about the colleague experience and asked her to come and join the team who was trying to solve it.
Vania has had great examples around her and she shared two that are no longer around.
Ÿ Her grandfather had an unshakable belief in the human being. Their potential to change and to achieve great things. She learned kindness and generosity from him.
Ÿ Her grandmother, who passed away this year, showed Vania with her life to have internal confidence - it is possible to do it, and change is always necessary
“We have the privilege to touch many lives in our daily tasks,” Vania asserts. The best recognition she has received is the multiple individual conversations when a person's life is enriched, and they find themselves in flow. In other words, when the challenges they face meet the capabilities they bring. “We are back to doing the small things, thinking about the big stuff. When you touch one person, you are changing the world, one at a time,” she states.
Responsibilities as an inspiring leader
As Chief people officer Vania's responsibilities are - Three higher level goals: how they organise the work, what is the colleague experience they deliver and how it is to work there - culture.
As Chief Talent Officer Vania says her responsibility is: Talent - get to know people and plan the jigsaw over time: do we have the capability? Do we
need to buy? Can we develop? Keep adjusting as the context keeps moving.
There is no typical day in a start-up. “You go from the strategic to the very operational on any single day. You can sign off payroll; do an interview; have a conversation with a leader who is struggling; discuss a succession plan; write documents for regulatory approval; attend a leadership session to discuss customers, commercials and risk, have a workshop, write a policy; review an announcement, etc,” Vania explains.
Maintaining balance and keeping others motivated
Vania not sure if she has a great worklife balance. However, she certainly feels she makes her own choices, and she is at peace with them.
She believes that you cannot motivate people. It is always an individual choice on how you want to spend your time and attention. What can be done, as leaders, is creating an environment where each individual chooses to stay and give their contribution.
Plans for the future of The Bank of London Group & personal goals
The Bank of London is the world's first purpose-built global payments and clearing platform. They claim to be here to disrupt a sector that for far too long has provided inadequate products and services.
Their ambition is to be the most efficient clearing bank in the world due to modern built-for-purpose, cloud-first patented technology, highly automated legacy-free
processes, and multiregional licensees in a single ecosystem.
In other words:
1) Faster and more price competitive
2) Easy to access through a singleAPI
3) Safe, transparent, and compliant; and
4) Scalable and proven core platform
It is a technology company in a bank wrapper; The Bank of London has already been licensed as the UK's 6th principal clearing bank, only the 2nd in the last 250 years. “We will be known as being a different type of bank, to have an inclusive culture. We want to provide exceptional products and services to our external customers, but you cannot give what you do not have. The customer and colleague experience are two sides of the same coin,” she says.
Her advice for aspiring business leaders is: Go back to the 100 days birthday and consider what success for you is. Develop your own brand. Be proactive and manage your choices, don't outsource your career or development to anyone. Always stay long enough to see the results of your work. Be the best on what you do. Develop three key capabilitiesgrowth mindset, learning agility and grit or smart resilience. Recognise when it is time to move on.
WAYNE J. RILEY
A REBRAND FOR SUNY DOWNSTATE HEALTH SCIENCES UNIVERSITY
SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University recently launched a transformative rebranding campaign that reflects its long-term vision for advancing education, research, and clinical care while honoring Downstate's historical legacy of achievement.
“This rebrand is our effort to capture our true spirit, the prominence of our contributions, and the value of Downstate on the local, national, and global stages,” said Wayne J. Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP, president of SUNY Downstate
The new brand incorporates the breadth of Downstate's multipart mission. It provides a platform for strategic growth expansion, all while allowing Downstate to better tell its story as an institution committed to innovation, inclusiveness, and health equity.
The launch featured a new logo and website that establishes an approachable and contemporary visual identity. In addition, a subbrand encompassing all of Downstate's clinical offerings, services, and sites—Downstate Health—was announced. Supplementing this change, Downstate's flagship onsite teaching hospital was renamed “University Hospital at Downstate.” The brand roll-out includes a series of ads targeting key stakeholders and the Brooklyn community to be launched in early spring.
This initiative is the most significant effort undertaken by Downstate to revamp its institutional identity comprehensively. The rebrand was essential given the current healthcare landscape and that academic medical centers must be
increasingly forward-thinking and agile to remain competitive.
As part of the research and thought process for representative imagery in the logo, Downstate needed to strike the right balance. In capturing Downstate's mission and legacy, the logo adopted the shield—a traditional symbol of strength—surrounding iconic elements: the Rod ofAsclepius to represent clinical care, an open book to capture Downstate's education programs, and a representation of the nitric oxide molecule as an homage to the scientific accomplishments of Dr. Robert F. Furchgott, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine while a member of the Downstate faculty.
Downstate's new website is one of the rebrand's most dramatic and visible components. The new look is a modern design created to accommodate easy navigation, better showcase Downstate, and be user-friendly. It also offers prospective students, employees, researchers, medical professionals, and other stakeholders a more comprehensive understanding of the Downstate enterprises. In all, more than 30,000 pages of content were migrated to the new look.
“We work in one of the best academic medical centers in the country,” said Carla Boutin-Foster, M.D.,Associate Dean for Diversity Education and Research in Downstate's College of Medicine. “When we step out our doors, we see the reality of health disparities. But we also see the possibility of how with innovative ideas, we can center and anchor equity in excellence – and that's the future of
medicine and the future of Downstate that we want to tell with this rebrand.”

JENS MITTENDORF
A JOURNEY FROM NAVY DIVER TO MEDICAL SYSTEMS LEADER
In the ever-evolving landscape of medical systems, few leaders stand out as prominently as Jens Mittendorf, the Managing Director of DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS GMBH. His journey from a Navy diver to a leading figure in the medical industry is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and visionary leadership. This article delves into his inspiring story, exploring the milestones, challenges, and philosophies that have shaped his career and the growth of DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS. Jens's story is not just about professional success but also about personal growth and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
ASerendipitous Start in the Medical Field
Jens Mittendorf's entry into the medical field was serendipitous. "The start in the medical field happened by accident," he recalls.
After a diving accident during his service as a navy diver, Jens was no longer able to continue in that role. The Navy offered him an opportunity to be trained as a medic, marking his first foray into the medical sector. This unexpected turn of events laid the foundation for his future career. It was a pivotal moment that redirected his path and ignited a passion for the medical field that would define his professional life.
Military Discipline Shaping Leadership
Jens's experiences in the German Navy and Bundeswehr Central Hospital significantly influenced his leadership style. "The military is a hierarchical but transparent, strong result-based organization," he explains.
The discipline and structure of the military, combined with an appreciation for individual strengths, helped Jens develop a leadership profile that values transparency and straightforward communication. This approach has been instrumental in building a cohesive and motivated team at DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS, a company he founded 22 years ago. His military background instilled a sense of duty and precision that he carries into his business practices.
From One-Man Show to Global Enterprise
The journey to becoming the Managing Director of DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS was marked by several key milestones. Jens founded the company with just 5,000 Euros, starting as a one-man show. "I had little knowledge about the market from my former jobs, but as a managing director, I was absolutely green," he admits. However, his military skills, determination, and a bit of luck helped him grow with his tasks.
Today, DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS is a thriving enterprise with a global footprint. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of seizing opportunities as they arise.
Diverse Responsibilities of a Managing Director
As the Managing Director, Jens's role is multifaceted. "Like a facility manager, you have some day-to-day tasks, but you never know what's up next," he says. His responsibilities include strategic development of new markets and products, ensuring the financial stability of the company, and overseeing a diverse

range of operations, from development and quality assurance to CNC manufacturing. This variety keeps his role dynamic and challenging, requiring constant adaptation and forward-thinking. Jens thrives in this environment, finding motivation in the ever-changing landscape of the medical systems industry.
Striking a Balance Between Work and Life
Maintaining a balance between professional responsibilities and personal life is crucial for Jens. He engages in team sports, particularly handball, and takes short breaks with extended weekends to relax and stay focused. His involvement with the German National Guard also helps him stay grounded and connected to his roots.
"Always remember your roots and values," he emphasizes.
This balance is essential for his wellbeing and effectiveness as a leader. It allows him to recharge and bring fresh perspectives to his work. Jens believes that a well-rounded life contributes to a more productive and fulfilling career.
Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Successes
Reflecting on his career, Jens considers his transition from a navy diver to a leader in the medical industry as one of his greatest successes. "The plan was to stay as a lifetime soldier, but sometimes things change," he notes.
Adapting to a completely different field and achieving success in it was a significant challenge, but one that he
accomplished with determination and hard work. Today, he leads a successful SME with over 40 employees. His journey is a powerful reminder that challenges can be stepping stones to greater achievements and that resilience is key to overcoming obstacles.
StayingAhead in a Competitive Industry
To keep DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS at the forefront of
innovation, Jens emphasizes the importance of staying informed about industry trends. "You have to speak with innovative clinics and doctors to get the best information for new trends and treatments," he explains.
The company also collaborates with local medical universities and regularly hosts students for their master's theses, ensuring they remain on the cutting edge of medical advancements. This proactive approach to innovation helps DEHAS
MEDICAL SYSTEMS stay competitive and responsive to the evolving needs of the medical field. Jens's commitment to continuous learning and adaptation is a cornerstone of the company's success.
Inspiring Future Generations in the Medical Field
Jens is keenly aware of the impact his work has on future generations in the medical field. He acknowledges that while younger generations are welleducated, the drive to accomplish tasks may not be as pronounced as it was in his generation. "I fear that we will be stuck behind our capabilities," he says, particularly for SMEs that lack the resources of larger enterprises.
Jens hopes his profile can inspire younger professionals to strive for success, showing that determination and hard work can lead to significant achievements. He believes that by setting a positive example, he can encourage the next generation to pursue their goals with passion and dedication.
A
Leadership
Philosophy Rooted in Action
Jens's leadership philosophy is encapsulated in his credo: "Success is written with three letters!ACT!" He believes in being fair, transparent, energetic, and driving processes and projects forward. He also stresses the importance of teaching younger generations the value of strong principles and positive thinking.
"Belief in values is something that keeps you strong and positive," Jens asserts. This philosophy not only guides his actions but also shapes the culture at DEHAS MEDICAL
SYSTEMS, fostering an environment where employees are motivated to excel and innovate.
Guidance forAspiring Leaders
For those aspiring to lead in the medical systems industry, Jens offers valuable advice: "Give trust to your people, lead them, and encourage them to learn and make experiences."
Jens believes that positive leadership fosters a productive atmosphere and teamwork, ultimately freeing up time for leaders to focus on other tasks. By empowering his team, Jens creates a supportive environment where individuals can grow and contribute to the company's success. His approach underscores the importance of trust and collaboration in achieving organizational goals.
Achievements Under Jens's Leadership
Under Jens's leadership, DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS has achieved remarkable milestones. From its humble beginnings as a one-man show, the company now enjoys global recognition for its products. Jens has consistently invested in personnel, infrastructure, and machinery, ensuring continuous growth and innovation. The company has achieved MDR readiness and FDA
clearance for most of its products and has several new innovative products in the pipeline.
"We currently have invested into two own facilities in Germany to grow further," Jens highlights. These achievements reflect his strategic vision and commitment to excellence, positioning DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS as a leader in the medical industry.
Conclusion
Jens Mittendorf's journey is a compelling narrative of resilience, adaptability, and visionary leadership. His experiences, from the Navy to leading a successful medical systems company, offer valuable insights and inspiration for aspiring leaders. Through his transparent and disciplined approach, Jens has built a strong foundation for DEHAS MEDICAL SYSTEMS, ensuring its continued growth and success in the ever-evolving medical industry. His story serves as a powerful example of how dedication, strategic thinking, and a commitment to values can drive both personal and professional success.
VLAD PELIGRAD
A PROFESSIONAL WITH EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN THE LEGAL SECTOR
Vlad Peligrad, the Partner of KPMG Legal Romania, has a wealth of experience in dispute resolution, insolvency laws, fraud investigation, and crisis management.Additionally, he has amassed significant transactional expertise in bank lending and real estate financing transactions, as well as project finance, infrastructure, concessions and PPP projects, and FIDIC contracts, both in Bucharest and New York. He earned his LL.M. from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., and has a Ph.D. in law.
In the 2016 Client ChoiceAwards, Vlad was the sole winner of the Litigation category for Romania. He serves as an arbitrator for the Bucharest InternationalArbitration Court and the Court of International CommercialArbitration, both of which are affiliated with the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BIAC). Vlad has taught corporate law, commercial contracts, and transport law for 12 years at the Law School of the University of Bucharest and regularly publishes articles in legal and business reviews.
The Curious Journey to Transformation
Since the beginning of his career, Vlad has aimed to work in a global setting and have access to the knowledge of law firms with a global network. In his experience as a junior, it was obvious right away that he had entered a new phase of his professional development and that he would have to put in a lot of effort to adjust to the high standards of the legal profession around the world. He acquired the skills of
organization, rigor, and initiative while working for a law office of one of the BIG4 companies. He recalls, "Continuing my career with international law firms, including one of the Magic Circle law firms, I had access to cutting-edge knowhow and integrated the highest standards of legal services on the market."
Before joining KPMG Legal, Vlad was a counsel at a Magic Circle law firm with a presence in Romania, where he worked for more than 11 years. Before that, he worked for another international law firm and for the associated law firm of another BIG4 firm in Romania.
Vlad comments, "I am still dreaming and therefore, I am continuously setting new targets. So far, I can say that I have reached all the relevant milestones I have set for my professional career."
Leading KPMG to New Heights
Vlad joined KPMG Legal as a partner in February 2019 with the specific goal of expanding the L&DR practise and working together with Laura Toncescu, head of KPMG Legal, to restructure the legal services team.
Since Vlad joined the company, KPMG Legal has developed its team and is the obvious choice for its clients. The firm offers legal services to the highest international standards available on the market while maintaining reasonable fees. Vlad adds, "I am referring to an entire team effort. Without the right people and mindset, we would not have succeeded. The firm went through an almost full reshape to become one of Romania's most comprehensive
providers of legal services with high standards."
In KPMG Legal, Vlad is the head of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice, and is also in charge of overseeing other practices, such as: infrastructure and public procurement, CRSI, energy and natural resources. He states, "My team is the best recognition I haveany contribution I can bring to their development, their successes, each challenge we overcome, these are a reflection of my work as a leader and are most fulfilling to observe. It is amazingly rewarding to see my former trainees and students grow to their potential, and this is an important part of my work."
Currently, KPMG Legal provides a broad variety of legal services and, in cooperation with other KPMG network experts, we provide integrated services with a 360-degree perspective on any problem.
In terms of numbers, the outcomes of the team's work over the previous three years are reflected in a
significant yearly growth in revenue. We now have 28 lawyers with expertise in all areas of law who have graduated from the top universities in Romania, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and South Africa, and have international experience gained at reputable international law firms like those in the Magic Circle.
Currently, KPMG Legal is a leading legal company, advising clients on some of the biggest and most complicated transactions on the market and successfully defending clients in complex litigation and arbitration proceedings.
Insights into Success
"Success is not easy to define, as it is not easy to achieve," says Vlad. Success for him means having a place where one can use and develop one's strongest skills and make a valuable contribution with an impact on oneself and on others, as well as achieving a good balance between work and personal life. However, in Vlad's opinion, being successful is not
a fixed point that you reach in time. It's more of a continuous journey. He believes, "The journey and the people who walk alongside you define the success."
Vlad considers that his definition of success has changed over the years and he is sure that it is still developing. He recalls, "Right after graduating law school, I realised that, besides having a fulfilling professional life, it was equally important to me to give back by investing my time in forming new generations of legal professionals. My academic activities became a piece of what success meant for me and greatly contributed to the development of this concept." He further adds, "Now, people around me have become more and more important, a significant part of the journey to success. I cannot consider myself professionally successful if my team is not feeling the same. I measure my success by looking at the success of my people and how my former students, now colleagues, grow into amazing legal professionals."
Vlad considers that the essential elements in his situation were constant studying (which also involved finishing his coursework with an LL.M. and Ph.D.), touring the world, and savouring all interactions with individuals from various racial and ethnic backgrounds. An international setting gave him the ability to widen his perspectives and taught him to always be open to new chances and come up with creative solutions.
Another important part of Vlad's definition of success comes from his family. He tells us, "I am a proud father of a 4-year-old kid and my success now is reflected through his eyes. Being a father has given me valuable lessons on core values in life and reminded me of the joy of discovering the world."
Vlad is sure this definition of success will continue to develop, as he discovers new ways in which he can have a positive impact on the community and his team.
Every Failure is a Sign of a New Beginning
In the 21 years of Vlad's legal career, while being a lawyer, a law school teaching assistant, and an arbitrator, he lost track of his list of failures. He states, "I have not kept a score of fails, but I have kept track of the learning which they generated and will integrate these lessons into future plans."
One of the lessons Vlad learned during his career journey is that changes and challenges can come with incredible new perspectives that one may have missed.
Vlad initially believed that he would only practise as a transactional attorney for the rest of his life, without representing clients in court. But just as he was about to make a change in his professional life, he and his team at one of the largest international law firms were given their first litigation case. He then considered that case, the experience his team had had, and the kind of change and challenge he was unexpectedly facing. He tells us that it opened his eyes and his mind to a whole new dimension of his work, so much so that he switched his main practise to litigation. The unexpected change turned out to be far more complex and interesting than many transactions and a switch towards a new professional calling.
Vlad is now working in cross-practice teams and using his background as a transactional lawyer to bring a new approach in court.
Keeping CuriosityAlive
Vlad is continuously curious and he is continuously learning, which keeps him motivated in all he does. Moreover, having a great team around him motivates him even more, as they are all extremely passionate about what they do and they generate amazing creative energy together.
He states, "One of the main advantages in KPMG Legal, that makes a difference and motivates our people, is being open and transparent with what we do and making people feel included."
According to Vlad, being honest is a crucial quality for a strong leader. Being honest helps individuals understand what they are working for, how they contribute to the company,
and most importantly, how they will be compensated for their job.
Vlad has learned over his career that a lack of openness results in individuals feeling excluded and working without a clear goal, which over time results in a drop in motivation. As a result, “at KPMG Legal, we are able to clearly communicate a team's vision and provide the necessary assistance for them to accomplish their objectives” says Vlad.
Views on Personal Goals and Professional Goals
Vlad's plans for KPMG Legal –Toncescu siAsociatii can be defined as follows:
Ÿ To remain the Clear Choice for their clients.
Ÿ To become the number one law firm affiliated with a Big4 in Romania.
Ÿ To be one of the main engines of growth for KPMG.
On a personal level, he hopes to live a more flexible and open-ended life, spend quality time with his family, and raise his child well.
The advice Vlad gives to aspiring attorneys is to never stop learning, to be open-minded and seize any opportunity that comes your way, to be diligent and proactive in your job, and to never give up on your dreams.
MARTIN RENIERE
ON THE PATH TO AUTOMATING THE MOST MUNDANE TASKS AND INCREASING OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES
The next stage of digital transformation isAI transformation. To stay ahead of the competition, businesses are eager to invest inAI technology. According toAndrew Ng, a globally recognized leader inAI (Artificial Intelligence) (Co-Founder of Coursera),AI transformation is a process that might take two to three years, but businesses can begin to benefit from it in as little as six to twelve months.
Before businesses can begin theirAI transformation, they must first undergo digital transformation since, in most cases, the deployment ofAI solutions requires the utilization of digital processes and digital data for training.
"By helping to speed up decisionmaking, reduce cycle-times, and improve operations, AI is having a significant impact on the efficiency and competitiveness of businesses worldwide."
Through automation and real-time visibility, Nuvoola'sAI-based SaaS solutions enhance operational effectiveness. Martin Reniere, Founder and CEO of NuvoolaAI, states that the company transforms video, voice, and data into actionable intelligence with business solutions tailored to the supply chain, transport, and logistics industries.
The
CEO of NuvoolaAI
Martin's primary duties at Nuvoola include formulating and communicating the company's vision, designing the strategic plan, directing the product roadmap, and developing the team. Martin is a visionary leader who can see the
future of Nuvoola and then inspires and drives his team to make that dream a reality. To do this, each team member must have the authority to implement the strategic plan at the organizational, team, and individual levels.
Martin works with a group of senior directors to make sure the business's operations—from finance to sales and marketing to product delivery—perform well overall. He genuinely values innovation and customer happiness, thus he likes the chance to take part in client demos to remain in touch with them and understand their requirements. He says, "Only if we understand our customers' reality and upcoming challenges can we identify the best way to innovate and ensure we have a major impact on their operations."
According to Martin, Nuvoola has always been a company that values innovation, excellence, teamwork, and communication. It's the team that helps nurture a culture of innovation and integrity. He believes that they are strongly encouraged to spend time learning, educating themselves, and brainstorming; this is how they come up with new ideas. This has resulted in a company that is constantly evolving and one that customers can trust to do the right thing for them.
Inception Story
The first focus of Nuvoola's expertise when it initially began in 2017, was on business cloud services. Then in 2019, Nuvoola made a significant shift in focus after seeing an opportunity to useAI to quicken enterprises' digital transition. The group decided to make significant investments in
R&D, creatingAI assets and exclusive intellectual property. Martin states, "We built a powerful AI engine that is industry-agnostic and able to learn and execute commands on its own, and we named it LUKE. LUKE is an acronym that stands for Learn, Understand, Know, and Execute. It's at the heart of everything we do." The business's ability to assist organizations in automating many of the more tedious operations has enabled workers to devote more time to strategic goals. The ultimate objective is to improve and transform companies, mostly in the supply chain and logistics industry.
Martin claims that Nuvoola's expansion of its ability to identify
objects in challenging environments and digits in the wild is when the company first gained notoriety in the AI sector. It utilized pre-existing video streams and connected with other data sources to obtain insightful data that would help organizations:
1.Gain real-time visibility
2.Get detailed, accurate, and digitized logs of entries and exits
3.Measure the fluidity of their operations with KPIs
4.Transform their operations
Unlike its rivals, Nuvoola's solutions work in tandem with the current IT
infrastructure. It fills in visibility gaps in the supply chain and enhances communication across the various management systems.
For instance,AGD Verchères was searching for a creative way to improve operating effectiveness in its yard while maintaining sight of everything that entered and exited the facility.Additionally, they didn't want to undergo a significant operational shift but still needed the technology to assist them with asset management.
Prior to automating the shipping container inventory on the site, Nuvoola digitalized their asset inventory and processes. Nuvoola quickly and conveniently collects all
the identity details regarding containers, vehicles, and trailers entering and leaving the facility using a high-resolution camera connected to the 5G network and a self-serve kiosk for drivers to check-in. Thanks to this, AGD Verchères was able to see the assets that belonged to their clients and were kept in their storage area.
AGD Verchères was able to improve operational visibility by showing realtime data on a dashboard with the help of Nuvoola's technology. This makes it easier to analyze important performance indicators and allows for more informed decision-making.
Coping with Market Challenges
One of the biggest challenges Nuvoola faced was the way the world had evolved and was impacted by remote work, people having less inperson interaction, and the resulting labour shortage in all industries. It committed internal resources to developing a safer access system that could automatically screen clients and workers without the need for staff. Martin claims that the group created these self-serve kiosks for senior living facilities, office buildings, public buildings, and other places where a lot of people enter and exit.
The creation and implementation of the self-serve kiosks allowed Nuvoola to gain a lot of knowledge. With the expertise obtained, the company developed IGOR, an outdoor selfserve kiosk that automates gate operations for supply chain businesses and port terminals. By focusing on a different market sector with a more pressing need, Nuvoola was able to accelerate its success. The company has seen exponential growth since its inception.
Inclusive Offerings
All of Nuvoola's products are built on the Learn, Understand, Know, and Execute (LUKE) online cloud platform. It is anAI-based decision engine and a data-driven framework. The LUKEAI framework is broken down into a centralAI hub (the "brain" which continuously learns, orchestrates thought processes and actions) and its key modules (acting like senses and limbs).
"Unlike its competitors, Nuvoola's solutions complement existing IT systems. We bridge the gaps in supply chain visibility and improve
operations between the different management systems."
The LUKE platform connects with current sensors, systems, and devices as well as deep neural networks (DNNs) from third parties that it may use for specific post-analysis. Because LUKE is flexible, moreAI capabilities, data analytics, and visualization tools may be added.
Different variations of LUKE are being used in the following sectors:
Ÿ LUKEAI for Manufacturing and Distribution Centers (MDC) –A yard visibility solution that is based
on a distributed computer architecture called EDGE (on premises) computing which processes data at the edge of the network, close to the source of the data. It is thus possible to minimize the bandwidth requirements between sensors and data centers by performing analysis as close as possible to the data sources, with the advantage of reducing latency. Easily integrated with existing camera infrastructure, LUKEAI for MDCuses computer vision to digitize and centralize real-time information such as truck arrivals and departures, trailer and container numbers, as well as purchase orders.
Ÿ Automated Gate Operation Solution – IGOR, its interactive self-serve kiosk that is installed at the gate, automates driver and vehicle identification. Using the powerful capabilities of LUKE, drivers can quickly and easily identify themselves without the need for employees to get involved. The kiosks can interact with drivers, telling them where to go once they are identified. This reduces check-in time while providing secure access to the site, all without the need for someone to be present at each gate.
Ÿ LUKEAI for Order Management –Developed as a custom solution for JRV Distribution, this product complements the suite of solutions for distribution centers. Users can connect to LUKEAI to place orders. The distribution center receives the order, and their ERP is automatically updated along with the clients' ERP. Orders can be tracked in LUKE from the moment they are received to the moment they reach their destination.
Ÿ LUKEAI for Inventory Management –Afully digitized process to track inventory and reorder parts and items that may be running low.An order can be made by simply scanning the code on the box where the item is stored. LUKEAI uses Order Management to place the order. Both ERPs are updated and the client as well as the distributor can follow and track the order.
Ÿ Operation Performance Center for Ports –ASaaS solution that is comprised of three distinct sets of advanced analytics related to visibility, fluidity, and resilience. The visibility module integrates multiple sources of data and processes them to provide a complete view of information, such as daily throughput, railcar volume, cargo volume, and more. Real-time performance is then monitored with a fluidity dashboard that provides detailed insights on things like gateway cycle time, outbound time,
average time spent by location or commodity, and more.
Finally, the resilience module uses predictive analytics to alert ports about potential disruptions and their impacts on business. This is done thanks to a wide variety of data includingA6 andA6Aforms from CBSA, and data from the ports operations and Transport Canada. These analyses improve the ability to react to disruptive events and to recover from them without significant impact on operations and customer timelines.
Ÿ Rail Shipment Visibility – Using cameras, its rail shipment visibility solution detects and classifies the type of wagon as well as the containers' type and ID number to create a detailed e-manifest.
Ÿ Transport of Dangerous Goods –This solution recognizes placards of dangerous goods at high and low speeds to provide visibility and compliance information on the trucks transporting dangerous goods. It can provide information such as speed and directions.
Leading Competition inArtificial Intelligence
Martin and the crew always strive to keep one step ahead of the competition. The team regularly conducts competitive analyses to see what new products the company's rivals are releasing and what new features may be added to their own solutions. Martin also likes talking with both current and future clients to learn more about the difficulties they are experiencing and the changes they would want to see. This enables Nuvoola to develop better solutions and maintain an edge over rivals.
Coping with theAdvanced Landscape ofAI
The role ofAI in the supply chain is quickly developing in order to address the growing number of difficulties the sector is experiencing.AI is becoming a more crucial tool for the optimization of supply chain and logistics operations as more companies use IoT platforms and data-intensive software, allowing them to become more visible, flexible, and predictable.AI is having a huge influence on the productivity and competitiveness of organizations all over the world by assisting in the acceleration of decision-making, the reduction of cycle times, and the improvement of operations.
The supply chain and logistics industry may anticipate thatAI will play an increasingly bigger role in the years to come. With its ability to optimize operations and improve performance,AI is destined to become a key component of successful businesses worldwide. Nuvoola is contributing to this change by offering solutions that bridge the gaps in visibility and streamline operations. This helps businesses become more efficient by saving time and allowing resources to focus on other priorities.
Motivation Behind the Achievements
Martin believes that the creation of the firstAI-powered self-serve kiosk with a lift mechanism is the greatest recent accomplishment. The kiosk, which is installed at the gate, can determine if an approaching vehicle is a car or a truck and will alter its height appropriately. He continues by saying that the Nuvoola intelligent self-serve kiosk automates vehicle
and driver identification. The procedure just needs a few seconds if the motorist has permission to access the area. It speeds up check-in while allowing secure site access without requiring a gate attendant at each gate. The kiosk also communicates with the cars, directing them after they have been recognized.
Paired with the reservation system, this improves the flow of operations while decreasing gate congestion and reducing dwell time.
What keeps motivation high is seeing the impact the Nuvoola team has when it delivers. Just recently, the company completed a first project phase with a major customer and hearing them say things like: "We are really happy with the work, professionalism, responsiveness, engagement, and management that Nuvoola has provided" and "We have only positive feedback and Transport Canada has expressed their desire to move forward" is creating the energy and motivation the team needs to continue delivering the best services and solutions to its customers.
View on the Future of NuvoolaAI
In the last few years, Nuvoola has grown significantly. The concentration on road infrastructure and, more particularly, the work done to provide autonomous entry for trucks at gates utilizing cameras and video systems, served as the foundation for everything else. Due to its success there, it expanded into other transportation sectors, including ports and rail. Martin says, "Here we used our success with trucks accessing gates to do the same with cargo shipments and rail cars. The disruptions in the supply chain and the shortage of available labour
affected our customers, and because our strength is in solving business problems, we realized using automation and artificial intelligence would lessen the dependency of companies on labour supply. We've been successful with this approach, as evidenced by our revenues increasing tenfold over the last year."
"We quickly expanded our recognition capabilities of objects in harsh environments and digits in the wild. We were using existing video feeds and integrating them with various sources of data to gain valuable insights that would help organizations be more efficient."
The growth strategy of NuvoolaAI includes strengthening the resilience of seaports. With Canadian seaports, Nuvoola is currently collaborating to improve visibility, flexibility, and resilience. Making marine ports more effective and robust is its aim. The amount of risk associated with big disruptors has significantly increased for all supply chain participants. The company's business solution for ports was developed to offer seaports and terminals strategic data and predictive analytics on the speed, fluidity, and short-term resilience of the supply chain.
The main goals of Nuvoola's analytics tools are to comprehend how events affect the entire gateway, create a near-real-time warning system for particular resilience disruptors, and suggest potential actions that could direct gateway participants in their recovery efforts and lead to a return to full-scale operations.
