Nick Nemeth, Founder & Attorney, and Jamie Flores, Managing Attorney at the Law Offices of Nemeth & Flores, PLLC, are a dynamic duo transforming the world of tax law while redefining what it means to lead with heart. Nick, the founder and an experienced lawyer, established the firm from the ground up using his business acumen, marketing instincts, bigpicture thinking, and unwavering commitment to build a multi-office practice, ensuring the firm functions smoothly while coaching a new generation of legal professionals.

EXPERIENCE
Jamie, a force of organization and vitality, helped turn the firm into a thriving business while juggling client care, employee training, and operational oversight with a busy family life - four kids, a farm, and an expanding menagerie of animals. As the lifeblood of the firm, she helps clients feel truly cared for, skillfully balancing numerous responsibilities with empathy and accuracy. As she says, “Nick planted the seed, and now it's grown into a tree with many branches.” Together, Nick and Jamie blend professionalism and empathy with a deep knowledge of the IRS Tax Law. With over 37 years of combined experience in resolving IRS tax issues, they facilitate favorable outcomes for their clients by helping them successfully navigate IRS tax-related problems.

Defining Success Through Family, Career, and Impact Reflecting on his career path, Nick recalls how success was first about raising his kids as a single dad and making sure they became productive members of society. Today, success for him is about maintaining the firm's standards and continuing to help clients with IRS problems. Success for Jamie is being a good parent to her four kids and a role model, showing them that moms can have powerful jobs and that hard work and persistence pay
off. “I went back to school after having kids to become an attorney so I could help people with IRS problems. Being a wife, mother, and mentor to other women is also an important part of my success,” she says. From Unexpected Beginnings to a Shared Passion for Tax Law Describing the pivotal moment that led him to his current role in tax law, Nick admits that his initial career aspirations included dental school and business ventures before finding his passion in law. “It wasn't

something I always wanted to do. I originally planned to be a dentist, even got into dental school, but realized it wasn't for me. After struggling in business for a few years, I saw a billboard for the DFW School of Law and thought, 'Why not?' That was my epiphany. I didn't start with a passion for law, but I've grown into it,” he recalls. Jamie grew up in a small town and always wanted to work in criminal justice, so she joined the Dallas Police Department as soon as she was old enough. “It turned out not to be for me, which was

difficult since it was all I had ever wanted. I went back to school, earned a master's in education, and homeschooled my children, especially after discovering our oldest had dyslexia,” she shares. Despite her doubts about being qualified enough, the legal field kept calling to her. Finally, with her husband's push, Jamie took the Law School Admission Test, got into law school, and found her path in tax law, eventually leading her to Nick's firm. Building a Tax Law Partnership on Balance and Impact Nick went from personal injury law to tax law, finding fulfillment in helping clients with IRS problems. “Unlike personal injury, where clients are often disappointed, most tax clients are genuinely relieved and happy with the outcome,” he shares. Jamie felt she could make a real impact in tax law, giving people peace of mind when going up against a powerful government agency that can take everything from them. Nick and Jamie have very different personalities, but they communicate well, balancing each other, deferring to each other's strengths, and working through challenges to drive the firm's growth. When their paths merged, Nick was able to better focus on clients, listening and explaining potential solutions, while Jamie managed the attorneys, worked with the IRS, and educated clients to lessen their overwhelming fears of the IRS.
Being a woman in a male-dominated field never held Jamie back. “If someone expects a male lawyer, I set boundaries, focus on their problem, and show them they're in the right place,” she states. While bias still exists, clients learn that what matters is having the right mind to solve their problems. Nick likens Jamie to the “firm mom,” guiding the attorneys and staff and keeping everything running smoothly. The firm has seen tremendous growth in the last five years, with more employees and cases, and an evolution in operations. Jamie brought major changes that strengthened the practice, and they built a strong reputation for doing good work at a fair price, with excellent reviews and respect from even local IRS officials. Balancing Technology and Personalized Client Care On the importance of balancing technology with personalized client service, Jamie notes that AI is a helpful resource for efficiency, as research that once required law libraries is now available instantly, but it can't replace an attorney's knowledge and judgment. The IRS, slow to adopt technology, makes it harder for taxpayers to get answers, bringing more people to the firm for help. Nick highlights their paperless office and reliance on modern tools. “I'm 20 years older than Jamie, so I defer to her on technology. She modernized our office, making us fully paperless changes I resisted at first. It's another example of how we rely on each other's strengths,” he observes.

Taking Pride in Resilience and Impact Nick takes pride in the firm's resilience and success during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. His main concern was to ensure their clients still knew they were available. The firm emerged from COVID prepared to work on the IRS's backlog of all the cases they are catching up on. “I'm very proud of how we handled that, how we supported our clients through it, and how we were ready for those who came to us immediately afterward,” he declares.
Jamie finds her greatest fulfillment in mentoring and educating others, both within the firm and in the broader legal community. “For me, that's the greatest achievement: not only fixing problems for clients, but educating our team and clients so they stay in compliance and don't have these issues again. That's what makes me feel good about what we're doing,” she says.

COVER STORY
Building a Strong Reputation Through Integrity and ClientCentered Service Nick sees competition as an opportunity to innovate and improve their services, and “less of a threat and more of a motivator,” viewing it as validation when competitors mirror their approach. His commitment to honesty is a defining strength, with the firm's business built on transparency, giving clients realistic guidance unlike the promises of “pennies on the dollar” that saturate TV ads. If someone doesn't qualify for a program, they're told the truth - no money is taken under false pretenses. For Jamie, the sheer demand for help, especially in the DFW area, makes competition almost irrelevant. “The need is so great that there's more than enough work to go around. Where national companies chase numbers, our focus remains on personalized service. The goal isn't simply to sign clients but to set people up for long-term stability,” she affirms. Nick recalls a client who lost his family business due to IRS issues and later hired them to resolve personal tax problems. He gave them a great review that reinforced their approach to honest advice. Jamie recounts a case where they saved a small business owner's ranch and business from IRS seizure, reaching a win-win agreement for all. In some cases, individuals walk
away from a consultation with a step-by-step plan to solve their issues on their own. In fact, the most positive reviews come from people who never hired the firm, but appreciated the advice they received to solve their problems independently. Far from seeing this as a loss, Jamie views it as a marker of integrity and trust, a philosophy that has fueled the firm's reputation, which works in their clients' favor during IRS negotiations.
Jamie hopes to influence a change in the next generation - law students, undergrads, even high schoolers - by mentoring them on how tax touches everything, including real estate, wills and trusts, the financial industry, and small business formation. “If we can reach people early with education, conferences, and seminars, they'll have the resources they need to succeed and avoid future problems,” she notes.
Balancing Family, Legacy, and Ambition
Jamie also hopes to build an empire to show everyone that “your past doesn't define you” and inspire young attorneys and students to pursue careers in tax and related fields. “It doesn't matter if you had money or not, male or female - what matters is your mindset. If you want something, you work hard, no excuses. That drive pushes me every day - to serve clients, run the firm, and keep building, whether it's here or on the farm. It's all part of the same vision.”
Both Jamie and Nick emphasize the importance of family, but Nick humorously notes his lack of a personal life as an empty nester, contrasting with Jamie's busy family life. “My kids are grown, I'm an empty nester. No wife, no kids at home, so it's easy for me. Now Jamie - four kids, a farm, a husband… I don't even ask. I'll defer to her,” he quips. For Jamie, everything is about balance. “Family is number one for me, and what I love about working here is that Nick understands that. But we also treat our clients like family. Sometimes they cry, sometimes they hug you - it's because they know we care,” she shares. While Nick's not a hugger, he finds helping clients rewarding and is focused on his legacy. “My son's in law school, and I'd love for him to continue this work alongside Jamie or even one of her kids. That's my focus - the next phase and keeping this place going,” he reflects.
16 | DECEMBER 2025
Nick shares Jamie's vision of growth. “The more offices we open, the more people we hire and train, the more clients we can help. Years ago, we were helping 20 people a month. That grew to 50, then 100, and it keeps climbing,” he adds. Jamie notes that the bigger they grow, the more they can give back. “We already do a lot for veterans, police, firefighters, and teachers. For me, it's not just about expanding, but using that growth to reach and help even more people who are struggling,” she says.

HOW WE HELP SOLVE IRS DEBT
Our Practice Areas
To make it all work, they built a room at the office with bunk beds so Jamie's kids can homeschool and have her around if she works late. Her husband, retired from the Dallas Police Department, came onboard to help the firm grow because he believes in the vision and the firms future. “At home, there's schoolwork, dinner, and a farm full of animals waiting. It definitely takes a village - at home and at work,” Jamie remarks. This arrangement helps them serve clients from early morning to early evening something most law firms don't do. Guiding the Next Generation of Legal Leaders Nick's most important advice for young people hoping to get into legal careers comes down to just two words: Work ethic. He's taught his high-achieving sons one in law school, the other working on a doctoral degree in Hawaii - that nothing comes easy,
and hopes to model the value of hard work for the next generation. He shares these words of wisdom for aspiring leaders: “Don't be afraid to pivot. You'll hit roadblocks - don't crawl into a corner and hide. Figure out a way around them. Success isn't an eight-to-four job. You have to put in the hours, the sacrifice. That's what it takes.” Jamie adds: “Dedication, resilience, humility. Too many young attorneys come in thinking they're on top of the world just because they have a degree. But real success comes from being human - listening, showing compassion. Sometimes clients just want to be heard. You can see the weight lift off when they feel someone genuinely cares.” Nick agrees, emphasizing that he often tells his team to treat clients as if they were their own family. “Pretend the client is your mom coming from the doctor with bad news. You put your arm around her and say, 'We'll work this out

together.' That compassion is what sets us apart,” he reflects. Conclusion Nick Nemeth and Jamie Flores embody the spirit of resilience and dedication, having overcome numerous challenges to lead their law firm to success with experience, integrity, empathy, and hard work to create the best outcomes for their clients. With his strategic vision, Nick is the head of the firm, while Jamie, with her commitment to clients, her team, and the mission of the firm, is the heart. Their success is measured not only by the cases they settle but by the lives they change, the lessons they teach, and the legacy they leave for future generations.

Henry Li Building Bridges of Law, Trust, and Global Understanding
S
ome leaders learn their calling through study and others through lived experiences. For Henry Li, Partner and CEO of YK Law LLP, law started well before his formal education. Growing up, he spent time in Chinese courtrooms observing his mother, a judge, make decisions that shaped rights and fairness. The Belief that law is more than a book of rules, but rather something that impacts real lives, emerged from those experiences in court. In the present day, Henry Li leads with a vision of understanding legal knowledge and commercial understanding, while exploring potential to use the legal system as a bridge between cultures and business communities. From Childhood Courtrooms to International Practice Henry Li started law school at Nanjing University, where a visiting American law professor helped him understand how common-law reasoning relied on logic and precedent. This inspired him to study further in the United States. After graduating from Indiana University Bloomington School of Law, he began his career in New York and later worked at Yingke Law Firm, one of the largest legal networks in the world. During his time there he learned how transactional/cross border transactions fit into
practice and how law intersects with strategy and culture in the global commercial environment. Following his time at Yingke, when Henry moved to Los Angeles, he saw a gap in the market for a legal advisor for international business clients in the United States, which partly influenced the decision to create YK Law LLP. Henry explains that the idea was to create a practice that provided legal services based in commercial realities and across cultures. Building Client Trust Through Understanding and Communication For Henry Li, trust stems from consistency, open communication, and genuine insight into the client's needs. The firm has many clients entering the U.S. market for the first time and who are exploring a legal system that is foreign to them. He recognizes that clients want more than just a precise legal interpretation; they want context and strategic advice. “At YK Law, our mission is simple. To make U.S. legal services accessible to international businesses and to stand beside them as partners in their growth,” he adds. This focus on client development has helped the firm gain the trust of large companies, many of whom rely on YK Law

for legal support in high-stakes matters. He compares this to primary medical care and the need for service providers who not only deal with single issues but recognize the entirety of the company's needs. “As
humans need a primary care doctor, who is aware of the patient needs in the ongoing care context, businesses also need this in the legal environment,” Henry says. Leadership That Balances Legal Insight and Business Reality 22 | DECEMBER 2025
As an attorney and leader, Henry Li manages legal risks in practice with the forward thinking necessary for business growth. His leadership model provides autonomy for partners to run their own departments while YK Law provides the infrastructure and support to perform their role. This allows him to focus on directing the firm strategically and, more importantly, to make decisions that are practical benefits for the firm's clients. Technology and artificial intelligence can streamline operations, allowing staff to spend more time building client relationships and to put time into business planning. This style of leadership is organized, adaptable and client focused. Changes to international legal regulations arise swiftly and in response to changing political and economic forces. Henry shares that staying up to date requires engaging with active matters rather than informally receiving updates of the news through someone
else. YK Law interacts directly within this environment as clients navigate sanctions, export controls, foreign investment compliance and policy changes. "We are up to speed because we are in the spirt of it all," Henry explains. Yet, ethical responsibility is still very much part of their day to day practice and firm dynamic. They are able to communicate openly and with caution while explaining potential risks, limitations and how to operate and stay compliant, all in the climate of constant change.

firms, will have the elements of digital capability, judgment, trust, and relationship building. As global commerce becomes more integrated, the technology will be the bridge that removes barriers between legal jurisdictions, leading to better crossborder conducting of business.
Integrating Work and Life Through Purpose and Organization
Henry looks forward to YK Law being instrumental in improved communication and enhanced understanding across global markets. "The U.S. and China business relationship is critically important." Even if YK Law is a small player, we are building for the betterment of improving international company relationships as they cross borders.
Henry Li does not work to live or live to work; he works and lives, and balances is achieved through
A Culture Rooted in Integrity, Innovation and Mentorship Henry Li believes that an organization's culture is shaped through example, accountability and respect. At YK Law, partners are encouraged to innovate within their areas of practice, but to do so with the benefit of shared resources and technology. Innovation is viewed as efficient service delivery, as opposed to being perceived as grandstanding. Mentoring is also at the heart of the firm's identity. Henry says that his own development owes much to experienced mentors in the field, including Linda Yang of Yingke Law Firm, who taught him not only about the law, but how to integrate his understanding of culture into his legal career. “She said to look

Work is an extension of personal development, contributing to the sense of purpose, which makes leadership responsibilities gratifying, rather than burdensome. Technology is changing the landscape of service delivery, which means that quicker and more transparent processes will be commonplace. Conclusion From childhood experiences in courtrooms to leading an international legal practice, Henry Li has constructed a career steeped in purpose, professionalism and regard for the client relationship. His vision has built a firm where mentorship, innovation and integrity define its culture, and where clients receive strategic legal services with awareness of operational and cultural realities. Henry shows, that legal leadership is measured, not just, by outcomes but by trust established, perspectives shared, and bridges built within a connected world.
Federico Vasoli An Experienced & Passionate Lawyer, Author, and Legal Consultant

ederico Vasoli is the managing partner of the international legal and tax advisory firm dMTV Global (www.dmtvglobal.com), headquartered in Singapore, and of its Maltese and Vietnamese offices. Federico has over fifteen years' experience in international business law. Federico is a crossjurisdiction and cross-cultural lawyer, who considers himself as a very ethical person that values interpersonal relations, challenges, innovation and sound legal support that, makes a positive difference for businesses. Federico is the author of legal and business publications and regular
speaker at MBA and other academic and executive venues. He was originally admitted to the Bar of Milan and by the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice as a foreign lawyer and currently assists clients primarily in dealing with domestic and international contracts and company law, foreign direct investments, asset protection, trusts, international tax matters, in a multiplicity of industries, including AI, AR, blockchains, digital medicine and IoT. dMTV Global – Federico's pride and family legacy dMTV Global is a homage to

Federico's family's legacy in the legal profession, which goes back to at least the XVIII century. The very acronym refers to the family's surnames, de Masi, Taddei and Vasoli. As a business it is still in its infancy, since it was set up in the second half of 2018, but Federico is proud that their financial results have been better and better year after year, despite the pandemic. As always, people are key and dMTV Global have what they consider the best local partners for each office. After setting up the headquarters in Singapore, they opened their subsidiary in Malta and, once he managed to finally

enter Vietnam in 2020 during the pandemic, they opened their new offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The beginning of Federico's legal career In 2002, as a young law student, Federico did an internship in a law firm in Beijing. China was very different then and, compared to later years, much less of a trendy destination for students and businesses alike. He had already studied law in England and it was just after 9/11, so the two most popular destinations for his peers, London and New York, were not that appealing,
hence he decided to go to Asia. “It changed my career and my life, I believe for the better,” he states. Federico claims that he shy away from awards: in most instances they are self-referential. He states that his best recognitions come from his colleagues, as well as his students, when they say they learnt something from him, and from clients when they are happy with the work he does for them – a client once called Federico their “legal Picasso”. “I took it as a compliment and always smile when I think of this quip,” he says. Responsibilities as managing partner at dMTV Global
26 | DECEMBER 2025
As the managing partner, Federico is responsible for almost everything and anything, although he believes in delegating, while always being involved in every case. Before opening the firm in 2018, Federico worked in various law firms in Beijing, Milan, Brussels and Barcelona and studied, after graduating in Law at Bocconi University, in Austria and France. Eventually he joined his family's law firm, de Masi Taddei Vasoli, based in Milan, whose expansion to Vietnam was his responsibility. “Indeed it was a privilege to become a partner of a then important boutique law firm at a young age and I tried to give back by avoiding to simply get a share of it,
but rather by expanding the areas of practice”, says Federico. Success is an ongoing journey “As cliché as it may sound, I believe that success is the journey, as long as such journey is an active one (meaning that you are in charge of the few things you can at least in part control), that is adherent to your values without excessive compromising”, Federico answers. In his case, for instance, success is achieving professional results whilst still being able to have a healthy life and enjoying family and friends. Continuing with the metaphor, he says, “If life is a journey on a plane and you are not the pilot, at least know if you prefer tea or coffee when the flight attendant asks”. Challenges help you grow making you stronger Federico believes that challenges are like going to the gym - your muscles grow stronger and bigger if you train them, if you feel some pain. His take is that the earlier in life you face real challenges, the better: you may not be equipped with experience, but damages will likely be smaller. Federico says so, because he had it pretty easy until his early thirties, when the wake of the 2008 financial crisis hit really hard and he had to partly reinvent his business model and take some crucial decisions, such as leaving – on good terms – his family's law firm in Milan. “I would have preferred to receive some welldeserved wake-up calls earlier”, he states.
Striving to maintain a work-life balance between in the legal profession Federico decided when he started the legal profession that he would put as many things he enjoys in life into it as possible, for instance languages, travelling, geopolitics and much more. In a way he has managed to tailor his job on himself. Then there is discipline and common sense: unless you are a certified workaholic, there is a limit to the amount of work one can do every day to the detriment of work quality itself, as well as other equally important activities and in any case being mentally and physically fit makes you work better. “I tend to be extremely responsive and to feel bad if I do not finish something before the end of the day, which means I focus, so that I try and conclude tasks as quickly as I can and then free myself from work”, he explains. Federico had to also almost entirely get rid of the sick habit of reading work-related emails on his phone when he opens his eyes in the morning. Now, he first makes a list of the tasks he wants to complete that day and only then does he check his emails and messages, which in most cases are not as urgent as they can be perceived and therefore do not completely alter his schedule. He does however try to reply to everyone within 24 hours tops. As for his colleagues, Federico says that everyone is different, but certainly sharing responsibilities and fees is quite gratifying. And beyond
CIO VIEWS | 27
that, showing real interest in them is important. Federico's future plans for himself and dMTV Global For a small firm like dMTV Global, Federico says that making plans in volatile times is hard, but they do want to tap into the American market. They already have some US clients and believe they can serve them well, particularly in the domains of fintech and foreign direct investments in Vietnam. His personal goals are right now related to fitness. “I have restarted Krav Maga and want to practise it to a level where I can qualify as an instructor and have discovered Pilates, which should make a sedentary lawyer like me more physically flexible,” states Federico. He also makes it a point to study Vietnamese every single day, maybe for only fifteen minutes, but every day. At the time of answering questions for this article, Federico has studied Vietnamese for 170 days in a row, without skipping a single day. Federico's message to aspiring lawyers is not to be self-referential: we do not live in a bubble made of intricate jargon and procedures; we are here to defend our clients' rights and interests and we therefore must know as much as we can about our clients and their worlds, on top of being prepared on the law ourselves.
Vincent Schoeters A Hardworking Leader Determined To Make Legislation Accessible Through Smarter Use Of Technology
A
s a legal professional and inspiring leader, Vincent Schoeters, Managing Partner at LEGILE, aims to change the legal industry by providing alternative, smart and more agile ways to do legal work. Vincent hopes to inspire the next gen of legal professionals, his team members, stakeholders, clients and even their biggest critics to work smarter. Vincent's idea of success is dual: -Make legislation accessible by means of technology; and - Help future legal professionals embrace the technological progress in legal and compliance services. By doing so, he believes that access to legal support will
eventually become a commodity. The beginning of Vincent's professional journey For more than 10 years, Vincent was an M&A lawyer at one of the leading firms in the Benelux. In the last years of his private practice, he was increasingly involved in digitalization projects in order to organize his own practice more efficiently (e.g., for onboarding new clients) and also increase the client's experience by creating a platform which grants them interconnected insights in their digital files but also empowers them in terms of document management, legal entity management, and document automation.

“This might have been the start with Legile and now we see that it grows bigger by changing the way legal services are and will be delivered,” Vincent says. Valuable lessons Vincent has learned and implemented as an entrepreneur Schoeters notices that: “There are three dominating problems faced by legal counsels and compliance officers: Ÿ The need to accommodate various factors that affect the business; European firms, specifically smaller ones, already weakened by the COVID-19 crisis, are struggling today to recover since the Ukraine war began, with the

inflation estimation ratcheting up. My question here: who knows what the future holds? The reality is everchanging, and each episode brings different challenges that demand certain agility in adapting new solutions. Ÿ The higher complexity of the regulatory framework; (specifically in companies with a data-driven business model and/or businesses whose core activities process a lot of (personal) data) I consider that compliance is a journey with different pitstops. The first, and hardest being when the business implements a new regulation. At this stage, legal counsels and compliance officers have to do their own homework to understand the regulation and its requirements and apply it within the context of the business's industry. The second pitstop, although not as burdensome as the first, consists of maintaining this level of compliance, which may involve investing in new technologies, staying ahead of the regulative updates, and staying on the safe side of regulatory inspections. Of course, outsourcing your compliance work would be ideal, but is it really an option for small and micro businesses? Ÿ Lack of resources; Without sufficient funds and resources, accommodating various factors of the market, or attaining high levels of compliance will seem like an impossible task. The solution? As a legal counsel myself, with a decade of experience within the Big 4 consultancy groups in the market, I saw in the traditional
out-sourcing legal services, a onedimensional vision that does not fit all business models.

Employee Testimony Legal Engineer Lennert Govaerts, working on a legal digital transformation project for one of the leading healthcare groups in the region states that “Our work revolves around helping the legal department get up-to-speed with other business units of the company, and technology goes a long way helping us achieve that result. However, as the needs of the business keep changing, implementing agile methodologies in the way we operate promotes the continuous iteration of development and testing throughout the software development lifecycle of the project.” Responsibilities as Managing Partner at LEGILE Vincent is the founder and managing partner at LEGILE. His scope of work includes maintaining positive client relationships and driving the business development aspects of the company. “It is the thrill of creating new business opportunities every day that
