“THE

10.

Fabjanko Kokan

Evolving through diverse markets, Captain Fabjanko Kokan did not take too long to realize the role that logistics played in driving the economy. This very observation helped him understand that trade, infrastructure, and economic development lie in line with the logistics services, and if the latter is worked upon with respect to the other three, it would develop the logistics industry like never before.

“Early in my career, I realized that logistics is far more than moving cargo from one place to another. It is about creating access, enabling businesses to grow, and opening opportunities for communities,” Captain Fabjanko Kokan admits.

He not only built the observation but also an overall perspective that helped him plan his journey ahead. The man, who started as a Country Manager at Africa Global Logistics (AGL) in 2015, became Regional Managing Director for Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia in the next seven years, and his contributions to the field made him a titan of the logistics industry. He applied his unique policies and connected trade, infrastructure, and human development altogether, changing the overall way in which the logistics industry was seen earlier.

Captain Fabjanko Kokan took his first step toward bringing a change in an industry that has long been characterized by the movement of cargo from one place to another, alone. But the journey wasn't easy. Making the people working around him believe what logistics can do to develop the lifestyle of the communitieswasdifficult, astheysawlogisticsasanichethat servedtransportationneedsonly. However,CaptainFabjanko Kokanwasreadytodowhateverittakestoconvincethemthat therewasmoretoit.

"I knew that I wanted to set up a collaborative work culture, and if the ones I needed to work with, to achieve the purpose, were not convinced, no matter how much effort I put into it, it wouldn't make sense," he shares. "Once I received the support from them, the upcoming challengesbecameeasiertotackle."

His belief in working collaboratively enabled him to overcome hurdles together, especially infrastructure limitations and regulatory complexities that affect supply chain efficiency. In such issues, the stakeholders and local partners stood by his side and helped in proactive planning and enhanced communication channels for uninterrupted

Thepracticeofcollaborativeeffortwiththenationalandlocal partners built a positive trait in Captain Fabjanko Kokan, where he stopped looking at the cons the people carried and focusedontheprostheyhad.Thischaracteristicthatwasbuilt over time allowed him to make the most of the international collaborationsheheld.

He notes, "I understood the value of knowledge, shared expertise, and strategic partnership, which helped me create opportunities for the community by implementing global best practices in local realities, revolving around business, community, andeconomy."

BothnationalandinternationalcollaborationshelpedCaptain Fabjanko Kokan introduce competitiveness, an urge to innovate, and a solution-driven mindset into the premises of AfricaGlobalLogistics, specificallyinSierraLeone,Guinea, andLiberia, whichheisleadingnow.

While most leaders keep tasks to themselves and delegate only unimportant tasks to team members, Captain Fabjanko Kokan is different. He has always believed in continuous learning and has encouraged others toward the same. In this process of learning, he delegates even his important tasks to the team and lets them handle them all alone. He doesn't control.Hesetsthemfree.Heknowsthatwhenhehasastrong team, it could help him plan tasks simultaneously, with each of the teams taking care of a specific type of task. This, in short, facilitatesfasterexecutionandcompletion.

Adopting an effective delegation method, according to Captain Fabjanko Kokan, not only helps the teams learn differentways of being efficientin finishing the tasks but also allows him to focus on other things piled up alongside. For him, his team members are not subordinates but partners in settingstrategicpriorities, planning, andaccomplishingtasks.

"I value time management, I keep healthy habits, and I taketimetostepbackandlookatthingsobjectively. These practices help me remain focused and effective even in high-pressure situations," he demonstrates. "Having a trustworthy team to assign tasks when you are not available is a blessing. Hence, I always try to create that. After all,Africa Global Logistics is not about one person, buteachandeveryonecontributingtheirparttoit."

Captain Fabjanko Kokan feels proud to see how the teams he has been a part of and also the ones he created through continuous experiential learning have been breaking the stereotypes. The initiatives taken by the teams that were trustedwitheverydelegationhaveprovenremarkableintheir effects on trade and commerce development. That's what keeps him confident about following the same method with anyteamorteammemberwhojoinsaproject.

Captain Fabjanko Kokan's motive as the Regional Managing Director has always been to take the company further by introducing plans that give the company a new direction and then executing the same. He joined with a vision and acted toward the mission. While his experience was the key to the policies he framed, those policies might not have supported hisleadershipifhehadnothadtheabilitytoadapt.

Going forward, he states, "My vision is for Africa Global Logistics to be at the heart of changes and continue serving as a trusted partnerthat connectsAfrica to global

Today, he is known industry-wide as an industry titan. It's a reputationsealedwithhisrecentinclusionin 'The 10 Business Minds Defining the Next Era of Leadership, 2026.' Thisglobal recognition points to a truth Captain Fabjanko Kokan has been advocating for years, that true leadership is less about logisticsandmoreaboutalignment.

Captain Fabjanko Kokan, who began his journey as a subordinate to many, observed the leaders around him and eventually learned that being a leader is not about directing operations. Instead, it is about maintaining balance. It represents a symmetry between people and systems, intransigence and adaptability, and international standards and local surroundings. A little inclination toward either createsadisturbance, causingtherupture.Whenhetookover as a leader himself, his first concern was to strike a balance betweenthetwooppositealternativeshefaced.

Rather than imposing rigid systems, he focused on understanding local realities while aligning them with global operational standards. He believes that adaptability and inclusivity are equally important in maintaining long-term organizational stability. By creating an environment where people, partnerships, and processes move together with a commonpurpose, hestrengthenedcollaborationacrossteams andstakeholdersalike.

This approach not only improved operational resilience withinAfricaGlobalLogisticsbut also supported sustainable regional development, reinforcing his belief that logistics

must contribute to economic and community progress simultaneously.

As he puts forth, "It is about creating an environment where people, systems, and partnerships work together toward a shared vision. I see my role as helping position logisticsasacatalystfordevelopmentratherthansimplya service industry.” Captain Fabjanko Kokan adds, "My goal is to contribute to building logistics systems that are resilient, inclusive, and capable of supporting Africa's growingroleinglobaltrade."

As a leader, he has always emphasized progress across the regions he served. For him, success means much more than what is achieved today. It is about the opportunities that the initiativesoftodaycreateforfuturegenerations.

Being a man of high integrity, Captain Fabjanko Kokan upholds ethical standards and embodies the traits that define an effective leader. Besides making sure the business brings profits to the company, he also ensures the initiatives do not disturbtheecologicalsetupsinanymanner.Itisthisintegrity that makes stakeholders trust his capabilities and those of the logisticscompanyaswell.

The ethical operations and responsible actions make an organization respectable in the market. And when the charge rests on someone with high values, the company can, in no way, gounnoticed.

"Organizations that embed ethical practices into their operations are better positioned to create value that extendsbeyondfinancialperformance,"CaptainFabjanko Kokanexplains.

With him, the logistics operations are responsible and consider environmental sustainability. His emphasis on accountability and fairness has strengthened relationships with stakeholders, partners, and regional communities alike. By embedding responsibility into leadership and operations, he has helped create a culture where trust, sustainability, and progresscoexist.

According to this seasoned executive, organizations that operate with integrity are better equipped to build lasting value, strengthen credibility, and contribute meaningfully to both business growth and regional development. This is what makes him a leader who is into making community impact morethanservingpersonaldevelopmentneeds.

Since assuming leadership within Africa Global Logistics (AGL) in Sierra Leone, Captain Fabjanko Kokan has consistently demonstrated that corporate success must go handinhandwithsocialresponsibility.From2018todate,he has championed numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at improving lives, supporting education, promoting environmental sustainability, and strengthening communities across the country. Under his leadership, AGL has supported educational institutions through the donation of learning materials, contributed to community health initiatives, participated in environmental sanitation and provided support to vulnerable groups during challengingtimes.

In Menthaba village where he was crowned as Paramount Chief and build school for 500 children during inauguration Captain Fabjanko Kokan stated: Education is one of the most powerful tools to change not only Sierra Leone but the world at large! Education is freedom and independence. The initiative reaffirmedhiscommitmenttoempoweringyoungpeopleand investinginthefutureofSierraLeone.

For Captain Fabjanko Kokan, CSR is not merely a corporate obligation but a long-term investment in people. His leadership continues to inspire meaningful change, proving that businesses can be powerful agents of sustainable developmentandsocialprogress.

CaptainFabjankoKokanregardsleadershipinlogisticsasnot merely about managing operations but about understanding the larger purpose behind every movement, connection, and decision. Throughout his journey, he has believed that the logistics sector creates opportunities, strengthens economies, and enables communities to grow. This very perspective shapes the advice he offers to aspiring leaders entering the industrytoday.

Clement Yapo

Leading ATIDI’s ESG Mission to ‘Leave No One Behind’ in Africa

Within the dynamic field of corporate sustainability, individuals like Clement Yapo are in charge of driving transformative change. Much like a skilled tightrope walker balancing on a high wire, Yapo navigates a complex terrain, balancing profit with purpose. As the Senior ESG Officer at ATIDI,Africa's leading development insurer, his role is akin to a corporate conscience, requiring a delicate touch and a deep understanding of ethical business practices. Clement's journey leading ESG initiatives underscores the growing influence of diverse voices in shaping the future of business. His leadership serves as a potent reminder that sustainable success is not just about financial gains but also about positively impacting society and the planet, a mission he has wholeheartedly embraced.

As the saying goes, 'Rome wasn't built in a day.' Every success story is a testament to perseverance, dedication, and countless hours of hard work. Clement's journey is no exception. When asked to share the path that led him to his current role as the Senior ESG Officer atATIDI and what inspired his career in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) advocacy and leadership, Clement recounts a life-altering experience that began

in 1999.

It all started with his leadership role in one of the first ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certifications in West Africa for SCB – Groupe Société Fruitière, a leading French agricultural company with operations in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, and Senegal. Clement describes, "This was a remarkable experience as we were essentially building the systems from scratch." Witnessing the transformation from the initial state to the positive impacts achieved after implementing the standard was a revelation for him. It underscored the profound benefits of effectively addressing environmental and social issues—not only in streamlining operations but also in promoting sustainable development. This critical experience ignited Clement's passion for ESG advocacy and leadership. After dedicating many years to this initial role, he decided in 2014 to pursue an international career, eager to share his expertise on a broader scale.

Join us in exploring the rest of his fascinating saga as he articulately narrates each chapter that led him to where he has reached today.

Senior ESG Officer | ATIDI

ATIDI provided support for the 20 MW Golomoti Solar Power Plant in Malawi.

Significant Pivots

Fanning his drive for ESG, Clement joined ENVAL, a consultancy firm where he played a crucial role in supporting environmental and social assessments for complex projects across variousAfrican countries. His journey continued with the Economic Community of WestAfrican States (ECOWAS), where he was based at the WestAfrican Health Organization (WAHO). Here, he contributed to various World Bank-funded projects spanning the fifteen ECOWAS countries.

Clement's journey brought him to ATIDI in 2021, where he currently holds the position of Senior ESG

Officer. He shares that he serves "with the objective of strengthening the consideration of ESG issues when supporting transactions in Africa."

Arecognized leader in the field, Clement's recent recognition as one of "Africa's 10 Most Influential Business Leaders, 2024" underlines his substantial impact on the industry. His academic background is equally impressive. He holds a postgraduate degree in Environmental Management from ESIP Poitiers (France) and the FHB Polytechnic Institute in Yamoussoukro (Côte d'Ivoire). Clement's credentials are further bolstered by various certifications, including a Program for Management

Development (PMD) from MDE Business School inAbidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) and IESE Business School in Barcelona (Spain), a LeadAuditor certificate in Environmental Management from the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The Imperative Role of ESG in Modern Business and Sustainable Development

Clement argues that ESG guidelines have emerged as a cornerstone for responsible corporate behavior in

today's cutthroat business world. For him, sustainability and ethical practices are no longer mere buzzwords but essential drivers of success. He considers that as global challenges like climate change, social inequality, and ethical concerns intensify, ESG factors have become central in decision-making, from policy formulation to investment strategies.

He reminds about the pressing importance of ESG practices in ensuring that businesses not only achieve financial success but also contribute positively to society and the environment. By proactively identifying and addressing environmental, social, and governance risks, companies can mitigate potential liabilities, enhance their reputation, and foster long-term sustainability. Clement adds: "ESG guidelines also ensure regulatory compliance, improve access to capital, and offer a competitive edge, as socially conscious investors increasingly use ESG criteria to evaluate potential investments."

According to him, aligned with the UN 2030Agenda for Sustainable Development, these guidelines provide a framework for businesses to contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future.

ATIDI's ESG Integration:A Formalized Commitment

According to Clement, the organization's recent formalization of its ESG policy in July 2023 represents a significant milestone. This policy, approved by the Board of Directors, reflectsATIDI's longstanding dedication to building its business around solid ESG criteria, dating back to its inception in 2001.

The Professional Hazards

Clement's early career was a perilous expedition into the uncharted territory of ESG, where the stakes were as high as the mountains and the rewards as elusive as a mythical treasure. He found himself traversing the corporate maze, where sustainability was often a distant dream, overshadowed by the immediate demands of profit and productivity.

At SCB, he encountered a particularly daunting obstacle while implementing environmental standards. Despite the corporate initiative, the implementation process proved to be arduous. The challenge lay securing management support across the organization's twelve production

sites for sustainable agricultural practices. This required convincing management to abandon effective but environmentally harmful chemicals in favor of safer alternatives, even at the risk of crop damage.Additionally, revisions to chemical application methods and timelines posed the threat of reduced production.

To address these challenges, Clement and his team adopted a strategic approach. They prioritized effective stakeholder engagement and enhanced communication, emphasizing the proposed changes' benefits and drawbacks. Understanding the full scope of the transformation was crucial to garnering buy-in from all parties involved.

To ensure that ESG considerations are integrated into every aspect of its operations,ATIDI has implemented a rigorous screening and classification process for proposed transactions. Clement explains that this process categorizes transactions based on their ESG risk profile: categoryA (High ESG risks), category B (medium ESG risks), and category C (Low ESG risks). By conducting thorough due diligence aligned with the IFC Performance Standard, ATIDI gains a deeper understanding of potential ESG risks and can develop targeted measures to mitigate them.

Furthermore, ongoing monitoring ensures that agreed-upon ESG

measures and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) are effectively implemented. By doing so,ATIDI aims to prioritize transactions with a positive developmental impact on theAfrican continent while also addressing ESG risks, thereby increasing the focus on the developmental aspect of its investments. Clement informs, "The ESG Policy is officially disclosed and available onATIDI's website."

Addressing Challenges in Integrating ESG atATIDI

WhileATIDI's formal ESG policy represents a significant step forward, its implementation has not been without obstacles. Clement details the

key challengesATIDI has encountered in integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations. One significant difficulty has been aligning ESG criteria with existing risk management practices. This task involves balancing immediate financial performance with long-term sustainability goals, all while accommodating the organization's established business priorities. Integrating ESG criteria is complex, requiring customized strategies for each stage of the process.

To handle these challenges, atATIDI, he and his team have focused on securing strong support from senior management and technical teams to embed ESG principles effectively. They have also actively engaged with partners to assess their needs and expectations, addressing any gaps through ongoing communication and capacity-building initiatives.

Clement's Role in Integrating ESG atATIDI

Clement's leadership has been climactic in guidingATIDI through its ESG integration process. Drawing on his extensive experience in ESG issues and stakeholder engagement, he has steered the complex task of embedding these principles into the organization's operational framework. His role has involved not only setting strategic directions but also ensuring practical implementation across various levels of the organization.

Clement's technique underscores the importance of patience and persistence in the ESG journey. He emphasizes that initial challenges often include a lack of support from stakeholders, which can impede progress. "I would add that in the ESG journey, patience is important

ATIDI

because we can often be confronted in a first approach with a lack of support from stakeholders," Clement explains. This insight reflects his belief in the necessity of allowing time for stakeholders to understand and embrace ESG changes fully. His strategy accentuates the importance of patience and investing in training, allowing people time to adapt. This senior officer stresses the need to be ready to adjust approaches based on feedback before trying again. This approach ensures a smoother transition and more effective integration of ESG principles at ATIDI.

ADefining Moment in ESG Leadership

Every leader's journey is marked by pivotal moments that shape their path

and define their legacy. These defining moments often involve overcoming significant challenges, making strategic decisions, or driving transformative initiatives. One such milestone forATIDI's Senior ESG Officer was successfully developing and validating the organization's inaugural ESG policy and guidelines.

This achievement, endorsed by ATIDI's Management and Board of Directors, was a testament to the organization's commitment to sustainability. Despite ESG principles being deeply ingrained inATIDI's corporate culture, the process of formulating a comprehensive policy required a substantial investment of time and effort. The initiative involved extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, meticulous attention to detail, and a

resolve to balancing competing interests. Through a series of iterative refinements and rigorous evaluations, Clement and his team successfully waded through the complexity of the process, culminating in the Board's unanimous approval of the ESG policy and guidelines. This landmark accomplishment symbolizes the team's dedication and a notable feather in his cap.

Enhancing ESG Strategy Through Stakeholder Engagement

"Stakeholder engagement is critical to the success of any major change for an organization," Clement comprehends. Their ESG strategy is built on a foundation of open communication and collaboration. As he explains, by reaching out to every individual and department impacted by ESG integration,ATIDI has gained invaluable insights into their concerns and aspirations. This two-way dialogue has strengthened relationships and paved the way for

more effective expectation management. By keeping stakeholders in the loop, the organization has empowered them to play an active role in shaping its ESG journey and ensuring its ultimate success.

Shaping a Sustainable Future at ATIDI

Clement is resolute aboutATIDI's role in addressing climate change, a major global issue. With a clear vision for the organization's ESG initiatives, he is steeringATIDI toward impactful environmental stewardship inAfrica. He explains thatATIDI is in the process of formalizing its first climate change framework. These include training staff on climate change issues and encouraging sustainable practices in their daily routines.Additionally, ATIDI has conducted a survey to assess staff commuting habits and their potential impact on carbon footprint.

As a subject matter expert, he shares:

"Our climate change framework, which will be approved in the coming months, will include a climate change policy, strategy, and action plan that will reinforce our commitment to building climate resilience for each project we support."

Leave No One Behind: Clement's ESG-Driven Vision forATIDI and Africa

As an experienced professional in the field, Clement envisions a future where ESG is more than just a corporate Catchphrase; he sees it as a fundamental pillar ofAfrica's economic development.According to him, as a multilateral institution tasked with facilitating investment and boosting trade in the continent, ATIDI recognizes the need to strengthen the sustainability of its operations.

By embedding ESG principles into its core functions, the organization will promote a sustainable and inclusive business environment. This involves rigorously evaluating projects through an ESG lens, ensuring they positively impact social, environmental, and governance standards.

Clement asserts thatATIDI's commitment to sustainable development aligns with global efforts to achieveAfrica's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He emphasizes that the guiding principle for all initiatives will be to "leave no one behind." By prioritizing projects that benefit marginalized communities and promote equitable growth,ATIDI aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of millions.

By 2020, the agency has successfully met its original aim of luring 100 Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000 companies. “I am also pleased to report that the team has secured over RM2 billion in new investments as of the first half of 2021. It's a strong start toward InvestKL's 2030 objective of securing a total of RM20 billion in new investments.” said Azmi.

The Inception Story

Malaysia's goal was to become a high-income country with a competitive, healthy, and resilient economy by 2020. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's economic capital is a vital pillar and contributor to the country's GDP. In 2010, Greater Kuala Lumpur was identified as an engine of

economic growth and designated as a National Key EconomicArea under Malaysia's Economic Transformation Plan, much like many great countries have their iconic cities. Greater Kuala Lumpur had great potential, but the driver of the initiative remains a question, "How do we move away from the middle-income trap, attract top global companies when neighbouring countries are aggressively doing so, and how do we support the creation of high-skilled jobs with brain drain becoming a top concern?" And that's how InvestKL was established in 2011 with an important role in promoting Greater Kuala Lumpur as a leading regional investment hub inAsia. It was our role to attract, facilitate, and service 100 large multinational companies into Greater Kuala Lumpur while delivering a strong knock-on impact on the economy as well as the highincome, knowledge-intensive jobs they could potentially create.

Staying Stable during Setbacks

In a fast-paced environment where collaboration is key, and in between everyone juggles expectations and deliverables, setbacks are part

of the journey. "On a positive note, one should view setbacks as opportunities and a stimulus that could be spurred into something great," says Muhammad.

At InvestKL, management uses scenario planning to predict and respond to changes in a coordinated manner. He enjoys encouraging his staff to step outside of their comfort zones and take on new challenges. The company's success today as a top investment agency, as recognised by Site Selection in 2019, 2017, and 2015, is due to the learning, expertise, and experience gained.

Muhammad recalls, "We were all awakened to the shock of running our business during a pandemic. At the onset, people are grappling with how far-reaching or how long the uncertainty will persist." With such a realization, leaders would then need to respond decisively on two different foundations – internal and external. AsAzmi finds, the first one is the importance of rallying the team

together and planning for a robust approach moving forward. Also, he wants externally to ensure clarity and continuity in the team's communication for businesses to run during the pandemic.

"Despite the ups and downs and the many late nights and weekends, I am extremely proud of the team," says Muhammad. The team has responded positively by demonstrating sheer resilience in their duties. He adds, " all that, we saw innovative Albeit ideas and unorthodox approaches in how we continue to drive our business."

InvestKL

InvestKL continues to attract worldwide multinational corporations (MNCs) and fast-growing companies to Greater Kuala Lumpur to build regional services centres. The focus is on enterprises from Greater Kuala Lumpur that provide high-value, high-tech, and high-impact services

and want to expand their reach into ASEAN and/orAsia Pacific markets. Consumer technology, smart technology, healthcare, industrial automation, engineering services, and oil, gas, and energy are among the industries of focus.

Overall, via its ease of doing business initiative, it assists investors by supporting the establishment of regional centres. InvestKL also owns two initiatives that started in early 2021. Greater KL (GKL) Live Lab was launched to position Greater KL as an innovation and ideation smart city, acting as a testbed where foreign companies experimenting with new and disruptive ways to solve the most challenging problems in the world today can bring their ideas to life while collaborating with local players.

Fit4Work on the other hand isa talent training programme to enhance the essential skill sets of young Malaysian graduates required for the Global Services Industry.

Achievements of InvestKL

InvestKL has progressed well over the years with a track record of delivering the numbers, efforts recognised and moving into the future hold bigger responsibilities to support the national agenda."

The 100 companies that picked Greater Kuala Lumpur as theirAsian headquarters did so because they respected the city's foundations and prospects. All of this, however, would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the InvestKL team in serving the country.

Muhammad admires the diversity of people who join to pursue a common goal: to make Greater Kuala Lumpur a top and preferred investment location for huge international corporations. Based on a decade of experience, expertise, and insight, InvestKL is prepared to manage new difficulties and seize all opportunities in the future.

Values that Create Progressive Workplace

As per Muhammad, work-life balance resonates deeply in people's culture. He opines, "As a leader of this agency, the well-being of the team is my utmost priority, and I strive to create a safe, supportive, and compassionate work environment."

InvestKL Recreational Club (IRC) was developed to increase team engagement through team events, outings, celebrations, and more as part of its mission to build an enjoyable work environment. During the epidemic, the corporation developed IKLCares, a programme aimed at helping people who are less fortunate.

The workforce at InvestKL is diverse, yet they work together to achieve a single objective, guided by a spirit of

public service and a culture of conscientiousness. The principles of InvestKL reflect this: being resultsdriven, client-focused, working as a team, having integrity and ownership in everything, and understanding the significance of getting things done.As per Muhammad, these values are the core guidelines that helped build the team into the dynamic and determined organisation that it is today.

Creating Greater Impact

For Muhammad, in an organization, the hard targets are a measure of success. It's about a company demonstrating the ability, efficiency, and tenacity to hit the numbers consistently. That is the fundamental measure of success. He asks, "When an organisation is built on a strong fundamental, leaders then need to look beyond the numbers. What next?" He further adds that an organisation needs to look at the greater impact of the activities that they conduct. This is measured through the positive spill-over effect that an investment brings to the country.Aglobal metropolitan site like Greater Kuala Lumpur would be driven by ecosystem growth, promoting innovation, and creating high-skill jobs.

According to Muhammad, InvestKL's path towards environmental, social, and governance (ESG) would be the driving force behind all the company does. He emphasizes, "A greater good needs to be done; a positive change has to be made to ensure that each and every one of us takes the sustainable journey forward."

Advice forYoung Lads

"Believe that you are important and that you bring something unique to the table – diversity is a strength," says Muhammad. "Planning gives

you a clear direction, drives you and perhaps even motivates you, but the journey is much more rewarding."

Muhammad suggests, "Another would be taking a leap of faith and trusting your Do not view your instincts. setbacks too harshly, but instead reflect and learn from those experiences. Success, on the other hand, is a door to a bigger opportunity – keep it up. Lastly, keep your focus right, invest in yourself, and seize opportunities to accelerate your learning curve. You'll most certainly achieve anything you set your mind "to.

The Prospects for InvestKL

Moving forward, the 10-year strategy plan by 2030 is focused on attracting regional high-quality, high-impact, technology-oriented investments in new development sectors that are also compatible with environmental, social, and governance goals. This is also in line with the New Industrial Master Plan in Malaysia.

The successes of the last decade have carved a clear route forward, and InvestKL has set a new target of securing RM20 billion in new investments and recruiting the next 100 multinationals and fast-growing companies to Greater Kuala Lumpur by 2030, or.Afeat that Muhammad is confident InvestKL will achieve.

Challenges are hard to recognize and overcoming them builds resilience

Simon remembers the time when he started JobsGate, and how he was faced with numerous challenges. He strongly believes that challenges make you stronger. “Challenges are pretty good provided you are able to identify them early and agree that they are challenges,” he says. Few months after starting his own company, he had thought he was ready and understood all he needed to be a successful consultant. Few weeks later, he claims he realized it was a different ball game and was faced with glaring challenges.

One of the very first challenges he faced was poor planning. He realised he had not

Sumesh Satyan

Setting work ethics goal with Leisung Technologies LLC

In every business, strategy & culture is an attitude mirror of the persons leading the business. Sumesh Satyan, Co-founder and CEO of Leisung Technologies LLC, learned this thing from his father and used it in his professional career to progress. He spent a lot of time at his father's restaurant. Being a part of a larger family other than the biological one instilled a lot of human values in his mind and soul. He states, “My definition and measure of success will always remain, the number of individuals we are able to support and what values we instill in them as a company.”

Journey to success

At the age of 18, with a Diploma of Engineering, a sales job comes in handy as it offers the freedom of riding around and earning money for it. In 1992, Sumesh started his sales career and, progressing through it, learned a lot about different human personalities and behavior. He honed his skills to adapt to them.

He had the necessary skills to shine in the domain and achieved sales excellence. However, having worked

for smaller organizations, he understood the mindset of stakeholders, which kept the organization small and allowed minimal or no growth for the employees in them.

He adds, “I am not speaking this in general but for very specific organizations. I was not a very adored figure with these stakeholders and have been repeatedly castigated for having supported employees to empower them.”

Once, he was also shown the door by an organization where he worked with the in-house team in every trough and crest. This hammered the last nail in the coffin.

Being clear about his retirement plans with his wife, which were to follow passion after the age of 45, he cofounded Leisung Technologies with her.

He states, “Suchi & I then put our idea in place to build an organization where financial achievements were only the result of a team that is inspired internally to support people and organization to achieve their wants and

needs in theAV Segment. Today we are proud of having built this company where people come first.”

Hurdles along the way

Sumesh believes, “Challenges do not make you stronger, but the result of your response to that challenge will leave you with a life lesson or two.”

Cashflow was a major roadblock in the road to success. However, the team tackled the situation together and tunned through it.

With pandemic disrupting all the aspects globally, the team focuses on learning and ameliorating the services as they move ahead. He adds, “The most valuable lesson that this has taught me is to not take anything for granted. Every customer, every PO, every employee, every inch of your office, your home, and every breath you take is a gift. Celebrate, love, and live it.”

Leading upfront with Leisung Technologies

Leisung Technologies LLC is a DubaibasedAudio Visual System Design & Integration company. Their core

expertise is audio, visual & Digital Signage systems for meeting spaces like meeting rooms, conference rooms, auditoriums, retail spaces, innovation centers, BGM systems, control centers, and off-late home theaters.

Sumesh adds, “We have a highly skilled and qualified team which ensures implementation of the latest proven technological advancements to provide a scalable and dependable system to the client.”

Leisung has been an Infocomm member since its inception, and it represents more than 40 top vendor brands in the UAE and has been supportingAV Integration and Digital Signage projects in UAE, KSA, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan & Kuwait.

He states, “Our aim is to work closely with suppliers and clients to build brand equity and ensure long-term success. This quest for success has led us to forge close partnerships withAV Majors like Crestron, Extron, NEC, Bose, Harman, Samsung, LG, QStech, and any others.”

For him, Leisung is a movement, not an organization. The team understands that they deal with humans, and at the core of it, they are delighted when the customer is provided what he wants and not what they sell.

He expresses, “When every employee questions himself “Does my activity make Leisung an easy company to work with for myself and the customer?”, it forms the very basis of

a culture where integrity and innovation is an everyday thing rather than something discussed only in high-level meetings or customer interactions.”

Life as Co-founder and CEO of the company

Wearing the hat of the CEO, Sumesh leads the organization upfront. He states, “The core responsibility I have is to sustain the culture and ensure that everyone works toward the same goal of being the easiest company to work with.”

He starts his day by thrashing the juggernauts out of the way and then keeps the second half of the day for site visits and meetings with customers and vendors.

He expresses, “I have some precious moments where any of my team members would want to discuss some personal or professional challenge, and we try to solve them together.” Having a perseverant attitude helps him to tunnel through the upcoming challenges.

Achieving work-life balance

Sumesh feels blessed to have a family that plays a crucial role in his professional endeavors. He states, “My wife for 24 years, Suchi is an integral part of the organization as the Vertical Head in Sales, and my motivation for all those human endeavors that I undertake and my daughter Samyukta

is handling the marketing function.”

Creating balance at his personal and professional front comes naturally. Being a team player, he trusts his employees and aims at creating a workspace where everyone can grow individually and take the team together with them to new heights.

He adds, “We have built the organization that has 0% policing and an environment which only inspires them to learn, prosper and support others to achieve the same.”

Future aspects of the company

Sumesh states, “Our vision of being the “Easiest company to work with for

employees, vendors, and customers” is born from the very need to ensure that everyone we interact with is touched by our human spirit of oneness and helpfulness in every single task we undertake.”

The team aims to ensure a business that can support at least 1000 families in the next five years. On the personal front, he wants to complete his book on sales and wants to adopt a village to ensure they are self-sufficient when it comes to the basics of which education is a big part.

CEO | Fiduciary Trust International

John Dowd A Proven Wealth Management Executive with Broad Experience

John is the Chief Executive Officer, a member of the Board of Directors, and chairs the Management and Operating Committees at Fiduciary Trust International. He has more than 30 years of experience in wealth management and is a frequent speaker on wealth management topics. Prior to joining Fiduciary Trust in 2016, he served as executive vice president and senior managing director for Wells Fargo Wealth Management, where he oversaw the Northeast region. John's previous positions also included serving as head of wealth management for The Bank of New York. He received his B.A. from Guilford College and his M.B.A. from Columbia University. John serves on the advisory board of the UHNW Institute, and on the boards of the Metropolitan Opera Guild,

the MontclairArt Museum, and North Capital Investment Technology, Inc.

John credits his success with beginning his career in an entry-level position, and working his way up, taking on as many “dirty jobs” as possible. This gave him a ground-eye view of where improvements could be made by leveraging technology, changing workflow, etc. Since he had a real hands-on perspective, it also gave him the confidence that he could lead the business to a better place. So, over time, John confidently asked for more and more responsibility.

John thinks he and his team have done a good job of marrying the solid and tried and true elements of a 90-yearold trust company—stability, integrity, dedication, focus—with some of the more

modern elements today's wealth management clients expect—speed, digital delivery, sustainable investing, access to alternatives and coinvestments.Along the way, he believes the company's core values have remained unchanged—it is client-centric, objective, and independent, no short cuts — and there isa deep appreciation for the technical and specialized skills its people bring to the table.

John asserts, “Together that creates our unique culture that keeps clients and our advisors here on average for 20 years.”

Fiduciary Trust International

Fiduciary Trust International was founded in New York in 1931 as a specialized trust company. Its aim was to eliminate the conflicts inherent

Success for me is when we have created a working environment where the team feels like the strategic plan is all theirs, that they have license to stretch themselves, and we are having fun. It is also about executing a strategy smartly understanding where the linkages are ahead of time and avoiding duplication.

in other wealth management models that were prevalent at the time (and still exist today). The company provides investment management, trust and estate, tax, and planning services to high-net-worth (HNW) clients around the world. John asserts, “Our specialists work in dedicated teams from offices across the US.” The

company has over $90 billion in client assets under its care and has been part of the Franklin Templeton family of companies since 2001.

Project Snow Lion

For John, his proudest moment was seeing the entire firm engaged in the

firm's strategic reboot, Project Snow Lion. He recalls, “This was a grassroots project designed to improve the client experience, the advisor experience, and our competitive positioning. There have been other satisfying industry recognitions —A Barron's article on doubling the size of Fiduciary within 5 years (we did it in 4), the Family Wealth Report Awards for Excellence in Family Wealth Counseling and Independent Fiduciary/Trust Services but Project Snow Lion was great to see from ideation to execution to now reaping the benefits.”

Work-Life Balance

John organizes his time daily around four key activities:

Ÿ Thought Leadership — Staying up-to-date on markets, the industry, technology, and trends

Ÿ Operating the Business — Managing the P&L, product performance, and product development

Ÿ The Client Experience — Meeting with clients and helping with new business, and client retention

Ÿ TheAdvisor Experience — Meeting with our teams and communicating strategy, and direction

“Some days one of the areas gets a little more attention than others, but I try to keep the discipline,” says John.

As per John, maintaining the balance is hard and has gotten harder with COVID. The team tries to have meeting moratoriums, such as around the holidays, to avoid creepage. It does try and mix its business with social

activities. The company hosts employee engagement events regularly. John tries to be himself and be accessible. He says, “What helps, though, is that I love what I do, the people I work with, and the stories around each of our clients. Like Buffett says, it's important to pick a job where you can skip to work every morning, which I feel I do. That makes for an interesting visual as I am very tall at 6'7.”

Keeping Up With The Changes

“Innovation is prized in the company,” says John. He stays up at night thinking about new trends, client needs, and demand. He adds that a good example is the work Fiduciary is doing with digital assets. As per John, with the advance of blockchain technology, forward-thinking asset managers like its parent, Franklin Templeton, are looking for illiquid assets they can tokenize, and trade globally 24/7. HNW clients, in turn, will be investing in these assets because of their potentially higher return profile. “It's why Fiduciary is working towards offering digital custody services, and this is the driving force behind our recent investment in North Capital.”

John also stays abreast of the changes happening in the industry by staying close to the “disrupters.” Fiduciary invests in fintech start-ups, and John has served on two of their boards.

John would like to make Fiduciary Trust International the unequivocal gold standard, globally, for wealth management. He says, “We have such great people, products, and culture that it is very achievable.”

For aspiring business minds, John would just say how lucky they are to

be alive in this time of such dramatic technological innovation. He states, “It will be fascinating to see the solutions that technology will bring to our clients in the future.”
