This document is CIMA's preliminary response, submitted in June 2009, to Sir David Walker’s proposed review on corporate governance in the UK banking industry's review.
CIMA welcomes the consultation document. We remain committed to principles-based regulation and we are therefore pleased that the review has concluded that the Combined Code remains fit for purpose and that the main deficiencies in governance relate to patterns of behaviour rather than organisation. However, we are concerned about the degree to which recommendations from this review would be applied inappropriately to the rest of the corporate sector.
