Our Program for Inter national S tudents
The Widener Master of Laws in Corporate Law and Finance attracts students from around t he world. In recent years, we have had students from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Sout h America, as well as t he United States and Canada. These students have brought a tremendous range of knowledge and experience to our program t hat has greatly enric hed t he educational experience for faculty and students alike. Widener happily welcomes foreign-trained lawyers to its community and encourages t hem to apply
S tudy Cor porate Law in Amer ica ’s “Cor porate Capital”
Widener has a special curriculum designed to meet t he needs of our foreign students. This curriculum is available for foreign students and American residents who received t heir legal training abroad. This includes a specialized course, for international students only, called "Introduction to United States Law and Legal Institutions." This course provides students wit h a basic bac kground on t he United States legal system, legal researc h and writing, and ot her topics to enhance students' per formance in t heir ot her classes. We recognize t hat our international students come to Widener wit h a variety of bac kgrounds, goals, and degrees of facility wit h English. We t herefore work wit h t he student to create
a curriculum tailored to individual needs, and require a core of courses designed to ensure basic knowledge of American corporate law and finance. Academic suppor t can also be arranged t hrough t he International Student Ser vices Office, wit h par ticular emphasis on intensive English language training

Hundreds of thousands of companies have incorporat ed in Delaware and are governed by its corporat e law. The Mast er of Laws in Corporat e Law and Finance program allows att orneys t o gain the advanced knowledge and analytical skills needed in the business world while studying in the hear t of America’s unofficial “corporat e law capit al.”
Suppor t Ser vices
Widener University maintains an Office of International Student Ser vices staf fed by professional counselors and graduate interns to provide a full range of suppor t ser vices for international students. Assistance is available t hrough t his office even before arrival on campus for suc h matters as immigration, financial processing, healt h requirements, and administration of t he Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). While in residence, an international student may continue to look to t his office for advice and help wit h regard to driver ’s license, social security numbers, housing, and filing for allowable employment.
Bar Admission
International students are permitted to enroll in courses beyond t he 24 hours required for t he degree in preparation for a state bar examination. Alt hough t he LL.M. program is not designed to ser ve as a bar preparation course, some graduates do take t he New York State bar examination. Eac h of t he 50 states in t he United States has Board of Law examiners, whic h sets t he requirements for bar admission in t hat state. Students should contact t he appropriate state’s Board of Law Examiners directly to obtain specific bar admission information. Applications, Tuition, And Financial Aid
Applicants for admission must complete t he application form and enclose a personal statement, resume, and t he application fee. Applicants must request eac h college or university attended (undergraduate and graduate) to send to t he Graduate Programs Office an official transcript detailing t he academic record of t he applicant, including degrees earned and dates awarded. One letter of recommendation is required, and should be provided wit h t he application or sent directly to t he Graduate Programs Office. The non-refundable $60 application fee must accompany all forms. Chec k or money order should be made payable to Widener University.
The application form provided must be completed in full and signed by t he applicant. It should be mailed to:

Foreign law graduates seeking admission are also required to submit an official repor t of t heir score on t he Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Widener ’s Institution Code is 2642. Additional information regarding t he requirements for foreign applicants may be obtained by contacting t he director of t he graduate program in Corporate Law and Finance. International law graduates will also be expected to provide verification of financial responsibility prior to t he issuance of appropriate documentation to t he United States Immigration and Naturalization Ser vice. Deadlines
Application materials from US students must be received by July 1st for t he Fall semester and December 1st for t he Spring semester
Applications from Foreign Law Sc hool Graduates received by t he Graduate Programs Office on or before May 1 for t he fall semester will be given first priority for admission. The application and all materials become t he proper ty of t he Law Sc hool and are not returnable.
