Fourteen consecutive years in the national market, coupled with a significant expansion into the international arena, is truly a milestone worth celebrating.
At CIGARRO DOMINICANO, celebration is at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate every achievement, every printed edition, every participation in cigar events and international trade shows, every digital publication, every friendship, every client, every reader, every follower, and every sponsor. Each of them has played an essential role in making it possible for the Dominican Republic’s Only Specialized Tobacco and Premium Cigar Publication to continue promoting the culture, heritage, and craftsmanship of the premium cigar for fourteen years, while also serving as a vital link for companies connected to the tobacco and cigar industry.

To commemorate these fourteen successful years, we proudly present our twenty-sixth print edition during a particularly meaningful occasion: the “New Generation of Cigar Makers” Business Forum and its accompanying Cocktail Party. Through this initiative, we shine a spotlight on the next generation of industry leaders, helping ensure that the tobacco sector remains a remarkable example of family legacy and generational continuity, while reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s position as home to the world’s finest premium cigar manufacturers.
For fourteen years, we have had the privilege of celebrating alongside you. Today, we raise a toast to many more years of quality content, reliable publications, meaningful communication, and industry knowledge. Thank you for being part of this journey and for celebrating with us.

In very few family-run cigar factories can you find two sisters working together in the same company. This is the rare case of Michelle Amelia and Daniela León Franco, with whom we spoke exclusively for CIGARRO DOMINICANO, eager to share with our global readers the remarkable integration they have achieved in a vital area for today's businesses: brand marketing.
Michelle Amelia graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, with a double degree in Marketing, specializing in Strategic Communication and International Business. For her part, Daniela has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Creighton University in the United States, with a double concentration in Marketing & Management and Entrepreneurship.
In this engaging interview with the young León Franco sisters, we invite you to discover their important work at this 123-year-old family factory.
CIGARRO DOMINICANO: Michelle, growing up in a family with such a strong history in the cigar industry, when did you truly realize the importance of La Aurora’s legacy?
MALF: From an early age, we were aware of the family lineage to which we belong. However, as

we grew older, each of us came to understand the true value behind the family business in our own way and at our own pace.
The moment I fully realized the significance of this legacy of dedication and hard work was when I began working within the company. It was a period in my life when I was defining my professional goals and envisioning my future. During that time, I had the opportunity to work in the factory store, where I interacted closely with customers and team members. I learned about the product portfolio, the manufacturing processes, and gained a broader perspective on the company’s story. I came to understand that it was not only the story of my family, but also that of a highly respected company with a remarkable reputation in the industry.
That experience helped me fully appreciate that the values that shaped me also carry a responsibility: to honor a legacy passed down through generations and to contribute to its continuity through my actions, commitment, and dedication.
CD: Today, brands need to connect with new generations. How do you see the future of La Aurora in terms of communication, branding, and global presence?
MALF: La Aurora is a heritage brand with a strong and well-established history. When I
began working directly with the brands within our portfolio, I quickly understood the significance and responsibility that comes with such a legacy. At the same time, I realized that heritage should never be a reason to remain static. Innovation and evolution are essential. Connecting tradition with contemporary trends is the direction La Aurora has embraced in recent years, and it is the path that will continue to shape our future. As a brand, we recognize the value of our heritage and understand that we can preserve our essence while communicating strategically through innovation and adaptation. By understanding consumers, recognizing the preferences of both traditional and modern markets, and building meaningful connections with them, we remain relevant and continue to evolve. Through innovative strategies that respect our history while reflecting our commitment to quality and excellence, we are able to maintain our relevance and competitiveness in today’s dynamic marketplace.
CD: You’ve had a short but intense journey through different departments of the company. What has this trajectory been like, and what are your current responsibilities?
MALF: It has undoubtedly been a journey of tremendous growth and learning. As I mentioned before, I began working in the factory
store. Through my interactions with employees and customers, I gained firsthand knowledge of our products, manufacturing processes, and consumer behavior.
After graduating from university, my father gave me the opportunity to join the team responsible for launching La Aurora’s ecommerce platform. Beyond contributing to my professional and personal development, this project inspired me to establish a Digital Media Department. Starting from that foundation, we built a capable team focused on evolving the brand’s communications through strategic adaptation. That experience became the cornerstone of my professional development and ultimately prepared me for my current role as Marketing Manager.
Today, in this position, I continue the mission of communicating and connecting with consistency honoring tradition while embracing evolution. My focus extends beyond executing strategies; it involves structuring transformation through a clear vision, leveraging the expertise of professionals with 15 and 20 years of experience within our organization, and identifying innovative opportunities.
CD: How has working together as a family influenced you, and what have you learned from that relationship beyond the home?
MALF: I should begin by saying that La Aurora is much more than a family-owned company with over a century of history. It is an extension of my story, my roots, and my values, values that have been present throughout every generation of our family.
Understanding that, family dynamics take on a different dimension within the workplace. Each person assumes their role with clarity and responsibility, and interactions become even more meaningful because they require a higher level of respect, commitment, and accountability. We are not simply managing a business; we are preserving a legacy that must be honored and projected into the future. Working together has allowed us to transform our family bond into an organizational strength built on mutual respect, shared goals, and a commitment to making decisions based on experience, the well-being of the company, and the people whose daily efforts uphold the quality that defines La Aurora.
partment. Together with my team, we develop and execute digital strategies for the various brands within La Aurora’s portfolio.
From the beginning of my academic journey, I felt a strong connection to communications and digital strategy. While studying at Creighton University in the United States, I had the opportunity to work at a marketing agency, where I strengthened my passion for social media content creation and further developed my skills in leadership, public relations, and digital communications.
That experience, combined with my summer internships at La Aurora, played a fundamental

processes, interacting with team members, and becoming familiar with La Aurora’s portfolio, I discovered the true value of amplifying our brands’ voices through digital platforms. In today’s highly connected and fast-moving world, every interaction influences the quality of relationships, and a brand’s digital presence plays a critical role in defining its relevance. Through effective communication across multiple channels, we have been able to humanize our brands, connect more authentically with our audience, and cultivate a strong community. When consumers identify with a brand’s true purpose, relationships become genuine, inspire engagement, strengthen over time, and ultimately generate meaningful and measurable results.
CD: What personal lessons have you gained from working closely with your family?
DL: Working closely with my family has taught me many valuable lessons. Work is, by nature, a commitment a conscious effort to contribute and create value. However, within a family business, that commitment becomes even deeper. The values that shaped you become visible in a different environment and take on new meaning. Being close to my family in a professional setting has taught me the importance of consistency between personal values and everyday actions. It has reinforced the significance of honesty, discipline, and responsibility. Most importantly, it has shown me how meaningful work honors the past, strengthens a legacy, contributes to a long-standing tradition, and ultimately becomes part of history itself. To close this interview, we ask a few questions that involve both of them.
CD: How does it impact you to know that you belong to the fourth generation of the León family in the tobacco industry?
M&D: Being part of the fourth generation of our family within the tobacco industry connects us deeply to a sense of dedication, pride, and gratitude, while also carrying a profound responsibility.

We now turn to Daniela in the conversation, who specializes in understanding consumer behavior and adapting the messages of legacy and emerging brands to different audiences.
CIGARRO DOMINICANO: In which area of the company are you working, and how does your professional background complement your role at La Aurora?
DANIELA LEÓN: I currently work within the Digital Media division of the Marketing De-
role in shaping my professional development. Together, they provided the foundation for what I do today: communicating with clarity and strategic purpose, coordinating commercial activations, integrating influencer marketing initiatives, and developing comprehensive brand plans across multiple digital channels.
CD: In the relatively short time you’ve been at La Aurora, how has your work contributed to the brand?
DL: Most significantly, through strengthening digital engagement and deepening our understanding of our target audience. As a marketing assistant at the factory, I had the opportunity to learn the business from the inside. By gaining firsthand exposure to the manufacturing
It is not simply a matter of belonging. It is a commitment to honor generations of hardworking individuals who, for more than a century, have built a legacy founded on respect, excellence, and recognition. We firmly believe in continuing to contribute to that legacy and honoring it through integrity, honesty, unity, and dedication.
CD: If you could describe the legacy of La Aurora in one sentence for future generations, what would it be?
M&D: We would describe it this way: “A living and intangible inheritance: the responsibility to honor the continuity of our values, the essence of our origins, and a passion that transcends generations.”

Hamlet Espinal, director general de Tabadom Holding y vicepresidente de la producción global de Oettinger Davidoff AG // Mr. Espinal is the General Manager of Tabadom Holding and Vice President of Global Production at Oettinger Davidoff AG

to shop“.
HE: Tenemos muchas innovaciones en proyecto.

Hamlet Espinal serves as General Manager of Tabadom Holding and Vice President of Global Production at Oettinger Davidoff AG, the family-owned premium cigar company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. In this role, he oversees the production of the company’s own cigar brands (Davidoff, Zino, AVO, Camacho, The Griffin’s, Cusano, Private Stock, and Zino Platinum) in both the Dominican Republic and Honduras, ensuring consistent quality and operational excellence across all facilities.
Espinal began his career in 1998 in the blending department of Tabadom Holding, the Dominican company responsible for manufacturing Davidoff and other Oettinger Davidoff

premium cigar brands. Over the years, he worked across multiple departments, developing deep expertise in tobacco processing and cigar production before moving into leadership roles. In 2015, he was appointed General Manager of Tabadom Holding, succeeding renowned cigar maker Henke Kelner. Since then, he has played a key role in expanding and modernizing the company’s production operations, including the recent expansion of facilities in the Dominican Republic. His leadership reflects a strong commitment to preserving traditional artistry while enhancing operational capabilities to meet global demand.
Hamlet Espinal’s expertise aligns with Oettinger Davidoff’s “crop to shop” philosophy, combining deep technical knowledge of tobac-
co and manufacturing with strategic leadership in global production operations.
During a visit to Tabadom, the international magazine CIGARRO DOMINICANO conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Hamlet Espinal, where we discussed tradition and innovation at Oettinger Davidoff and explored why Davidoff cigars continue to maintain unmatched quality over time.
CIGARRO DOMINICANO: In a company like Oettinger Davidoff, with over 150 years of history, how do you preserve the essence of Davidoff cigars through your leadership at the factory?
HAMLET ESPINAL: After nearly 28 years at Tabadom, my leadership preserves the essen-

ce of Davidoff cigars by ensuring that quality remains non-negotiable at every stage of production. From seed selection, harvesting, fermentation, and aging to cigar production and packaging, we reinforce strict quality standards and meticulous attention to detail.
The essence of Davidoff is embedded in the factory culture, ensuring that every team member understands that each cigar represents a long-standing legacy. Quality, passion, and innovation are the pillars that keep Davidoff’s identity intact.
CD: We understand that your family has also been involved in the tobacco sector. How has this influenced your professional career?
HE: My father has been my inspiration from the very beginning. His experience in the tobacco industry allowed me to understand from an early stage the culture, discipline, and respect for artistry that define this field.
From a young age, I realized that tobacco is not just a product - it is the result of time, patience, and people’s commitment. That influence shaped my work ethic and my appreciation for quality and tradition. This family legacy gave me a strong foundation, and my career has been focused on honoring those principles.
CD: How important has it been for you to work in an industry where tradition meets innovation?
HE: It is essential, as both elements are fundamental in our industry. Tradition gives us identity, credibility, and deep respect for artistry, while innovation ensures long-term relevance, consistency, and sustainability.
Working in this environment has shaped my leadership style. For me, honoring tradition does not mean resisting change, but rather evolving responsibly so that the essence of what we do remains intact as the world evolves.
CD: It has been a decade since you assumed the role of Global Production Director at Oettinger Davidoff. How has production

evolved under your leadership in the Dominican Republic?
HE: The past ten years have been both demanding and rewarding. The evolution of production in the Dominican Republic has focused on strengthening what already made Davidoff unique and exceptional, while elevating it to a higher level.
Under my leadership, we have reinforced our commitment to artistry and quality while introducing more structured processes, advanced quality controls, and continuous improvements throughout the factory.
We have also made significant investments in our most valuable asset our people by training, developing, and empowering our teams. Premium cigars are ultimately crafted with passion, commitment, and skilled hands.
At the same time, we have modernized production methods and planning to ensure efficiency and sustainability. The result is a production environment where tradition and innovation coexist, allowing us to consistently deliver Swiss precision expressed through Dominican artistry.
CD: You are also responsible for production in Honduras. What differences exist between both countries, and how large is your workforce?
HE: Producing cigars in the Dominican Republic and Honduras means working with two distinct tobacco origins, each with its own character.
In the Dominican Republic, beyond the unique qualities of its land and climate, production is defined by balance, delicacy, and precision, supported by highly structured processes and experienced teams.
Honduras, on the other hand, offers unique, complex, and innovative tobacco profiles. Its artistry, discipline, commitment, and expertise serve as a source of inspiration worldwide.
My role is to ensure that, despite these differences, the same production standards are applied without exception in both countries
in line with our “crop to shop” philosophy. We adapt our processes to local realities without ever compromising our essence of quality, artistry, and consistency.
Currently, we have a team of over 1,700 employees in the Dominican Republic and approximately 950 in Honduras. It is truly remarkable to see the impact we are creating together for the region and for cigar enthusiasts around the world.
CD: With factories in the Dominican Republic and Honduras and headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, how does this trio influence the quality and sales of Oettinger Davidoff cigars?
HE: The combination of Switzerland, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras is one of Oettinger Davidoff’s greatest strengths as a company.
Switzerland provides strategic vision, a global perspective on consumer needs, and the Swiss precision that defines our standards and long-term direction. The Dominican Republic and Honduras contribute exceptional tobacco, high-level artistry, and deeply rooted cigar-making cultures each bringing unique characteristics to our portfolio.
This trio allows us to combine strategic discipline with authentic origins. Quality is ensured through clear standards and strong alignment across all locations, while sales benefit from a compelling story of authenticity, consistency, and excellence.
Enthusiasts recognize and trust this balance between Swiss precision and Caribbean passion, which ultimately strengthens both the product and the brand worldwide.
CD: What new cigars can Davidoff enthusiasts expect in 2026?
HE: We have many innovations in development. In 2026, Davidoff will continue to innovate while honoring its legacy, bringing enthusiasts a series of exciting new releases.
At the end of 2025, the Davidoff Year of the Horse Limited Edition 2026 was introduced a highly anticipated cigar featuring exclusive hybrid tobaccos and, for the first time in this collection, new formats such as the Toro Especial. These releases are the result of decades of seed development and are crafted to deliver balance and complexity.
Additionally, Davidoff expanded its Exclusive Editions program in 2026 with eleven customized cigars developed in collaboration with select retail partners and markets. These special releases will feature elegant formats such as Belicoso, Perfecto, and Gran Toro, with unique blends and presentations tailored to each partner and region.
More recently, in April 2026, we launched Davidoff Puro Dominicano, the fourth line in the Davidoff Black Band Collection. For the first time, Davidoff Master Blenders have created a blend using tobaccos from six Dominican growing regions. Each of these six regions benefits from its own microclimate resulting in a wide range of flavor profiles, from sweet and creamy notes to rich and spicy nuances.
And we can confidently say more innovative products are on the way, continuing to transform the market, all while delivering “time beautifully filled”.

Carlos Arturo Fuente III se identifica con la manufactura del cigarro y valora profundamente la artesanía // Carlos III identifies himself with the cigar manufacturing and has a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship

Carlos Arturo Fuente III is a fourth-generation member of the Arturo Fuente family who currently is working within their family business, learning alongside his father, Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr.
Talking with him for this exclusive interview, he told us, “My focus is understanding every aspect of the company while helping carry forward a legacy built on quality, passion, craftsmanship, and family values”. Let's deepen insight into the fascinating work of Carlos A. III at Arturo Fuente Cigars, in this interesting conversation.
CIGARRO DOMINICANO: What are your current responsibilities at the company?
Carlos Arturo Fuente III: Right now, my focus is learning the business from the ground up. I spend time understanding different areas of the company, from operations and manufacturing to brand development and relationships with retailers and partners. I also support initiatives that help tell the Arturo Fuente story and strengthen connections within our industry and community.
CD: What are you learning from your father?

Carlos A. Fuente III trabaja en el negocio familiar, aprendiendo junto a su padre, Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr. // Carlos III works within their family business, learning alongside his father, Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr.
CAF III: The biggest lesson my father teaches is that this business is about people first. I’m learning patience, discipline, consistency, and respect for craftsmanship. He reminds me often that our reputation was built over generations and that success comes from protecting quality, staying humble, and always doing things the right way.
CD: In the short time you’ve been with the company, what have been your achievements?
CAF III: My biggest achievement has been earning opportunities to learn and contribute. I’ve been fortunate to participate in projects involving partnerships, events, and relationship building while gaining exposure to different areas of the business. More importantly, I’ve built a stronger understanding of the responsibility that comes with carrying our family name.
CD: Which area of the company do you feel most identified with?
CAF III: I identify most with manufacturing. Growing up around the business, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship and attention to detail that go into every cigar we make. There’s something special about seeing the process firsthand and understanding the work, care, and passion behind creating a premium product.
CD: What has it been like for you to work with the family?
CAF III: Working with family is both a privilege and a responsibility. There are definitely high expectations, but I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a great team that helps guide me and creates an environment where I can continue learning and growing. Having people around me who are willing to share their experience makes a big

difference and helps prepare me for the future.
CD: What lessons have you learned from this?
CAF III: I’ve learned that respect is earned over time. I’ve learned the importance of patience, consistency, and paying attention to details. Most importantly, I’ve learned that legacy is not something you inherit automatically. It’s something you honor every day through hard work, commitment, and staying true to the values that built the company.
CD: In the cigar industry, there is a natural transition over the generational companies. How is the company preparing you for future generational renewal?
CAF III: The preparation comes through experience and exposure. I’m encouraged to learn every area of the business and understand things from within, how they’re done, why they’re done a certain way, and the history behind those processes. The goal is preserving what makes Arturo Fuente special while continuing to learn and evolve responsibly for future generations.
CD: What is your strategy for earning the respect of senior executives and long-term employees who have been here longer than you’ve been alive?
CAF III: I think the biggest thing is understanding that many people here have dedicated many years of their lives to building this company. My approach is to listen more than I speak, be present, ask questions, and learn from their experience. I’m here to learn from people who have shaped Arturo Fuente into what it is today.
CD: We know you’re still young, but tell us how do you see Arturo Fuente Cigars in the long term?
CAF III: Long term, I see Fuente continuing to grow while staying true to what made us who we are: quality, family values, craftsmanship, and authenticity. The world changes, but those principles remain timeless. My goal is helping ensure future generations experience Arturo Fuente with the same pride, passion and commitment that built our company.

Collaboration, Continuity and Innovation in ProCigar’s 2026–2028
The Dominican Association of Cigar Manufacturers (ProCigar) announced the election of Tabacalera Fuente as the organization’s presiding company for the 2026–2028 term, with its CEO, Mr. Ciro Cascella, serving as the Association’s president. His appointment was formalized during the Annual General Assembly held on April 30, 2026.
After his election was confirmed, CIGARRO DOMINICANO sat down with Mr. Cascella Pariso to discuss the priorities, challenges, and strategic vision that will guide ProCigar throughout this new chapter of leadership.

CIGARRO DOMINICANO: How would you describe your leadership approach as head of ProCigar?
CIRO CASCELLA PARISO: Leading ProCigar is a privilege that I do not take lightly. Behind every cigar that leaves the Dominican Republic stands a tobacco craftsman who has perfected his art over decades, a farmer who knows the land as if it were an extension of himself, and entire families whose income and dignity depend on this industry. My administration begins by recognizing and honoring each of them.
I believe in an open-door leadership approach and I mean that sincerely, not as a figure of speech. I will be accessible to both the largest member companies and the pro-
ducers who are still building their names. Consensus is not a sign of weakness; it is the only way to make decisions that truly represent the entire industry. ProCigar does not belong to me. I have been entrusted with its leadership for two years, and my goal is to return it stronger than I found it.
CD: What objectives will this new Board of Directors focus on?
CCP: We will focus on three main pillars:
• Industry Representation and Regulatory Affairs: Industry Representation and Regulatory Affairs: Protecting our industry in the face of evolving local and international regulations. International regulations are not just legal rules, they are decisions that can affect the livelihoods of thousands of Dominican families from one day to the next. We will be present, prepared, and equipped with solid arguments wherever the future of premium tobacco is being discussed. We are not there to ask for favors; we are there to defend a legitimate, responsible industry with a rich and longstanding tradition.
• Sustainability and Generational Renewal: Ensuring that agricultural and industrial practices respect the environment while encouraging younger generations to embrace the industry with the same passion. The land that produces our tobacco must remain fertile for generations to come. Likewise, the young people entering this profession must see a future filled with opportunity and pride. We are developing concrete initiatives to ensure that the next generation carries forward not only technical knowledge but also a deep sense of purpose and pride.
• Education and Culture: Continuing to elevate awareness and appreciation of the Dominican cigar while further establishing the ProCigar Festival as the premier global event for the industry a showcase of our tobacco, our craftsmanship, and the talent of our people.
CD: What trends do you see impacting the cigar industry, and how will the Association respond?
CCP: Today’s consumer, particularly younger enthusiasts, is not simply buying products, they are buying stories, authenticity, and meaningful connections. Fortunately, we have the most authentic story in the world: families who have spent generations cultivating and crafting some of the finest tobacco on the planet. We will use the technology and digital platforms to bring that story closer to cigar enthusiasts in every corner of the world. Regulatory pressure is also a reality, and we take it very seriously. However, our strongest defense is not limited to technical arguments it is showing the world who we are: an industry that provides meaningful employment, respects the environment, and produces a luxury product that no other country can truly replicate.
CD: Do you expect an increase in active members during your administration?
CCP: ProCigar has always prioritized quality over quantity. We will continue to maintain very

Ciro Cascella liderará
ProCigar durante 20262028 // The new President of ProCigar, Mr. Ciro Cascella
high standards for the admission of new members, ensuring that they share our values of excellence, respect for tradition, and legal compliance. We pay close attention to producers who are doing serious work, those who treat their people well, care for the land they cultivate, and produce tobacco with character and integrity. Those producers have a place in ProCigar. The growth that matters to us is not numerical growth; it is growth in reputation, quality, and the collective pride we project as a country.
CD: ProCigar is already very well positioned locally. What international initiatives are planned for the near future?
CCP: Our outlook has always been global. We will strengthen our presence in key traditional markets such as the United States and Europe through strategic partnerships, while also expanding our focus toward emerging markets in Asia and the Middle East. Our strategy is to enter these markets not only with a product, but with an experience. Intimate tastings, meetings with master cigar makers, and tours of our plantations and factories. We want the world not only to smoke our cigars, we want people to understand them, and to share in the

same sense of pride and connection that inspires us every day.
CD: Before concluding this fascinating interview, there is always something important to share...
CCP: There is an image that I always keep in mind: a cigar maker sitting at his rolling table, with decades of experience in his hands, crafting each cigar with a level of precision and patience that no machine can replicate. That image is ProCigar. That image is the Dominican Republic. I assume the presidency of ProCigar with deep respect for all those who came before me each of them is part of the cigar that the world admires today. My responsibility is to ensure that their efforts continue to be recognized, protected, and promoted with the pride they deserve.
And to enthusiasts of Dominican cigars around the world, I would like to say this: when you light one of our cigars, you are not simply lighting tobacco. You are experiencing years of knowledge, tradition, sacrifice, and LOVE for a craft. The very best of all that, the very best this land and its people have to offer is still yet to come.

CIGARRO DOMINICANO magazine had an interesting conversation with the creative force pushing LFD into a bold new era with modern, complex releases like Golden Bull NFT. Enjoy this interview with Tony Gomez, 2nd generation of cigar makers from LFD and get to know what it's like for this Millennial to work in such a traditional industry.
CIGARRO DOMINICANO: What memories do you have of your father while he was growing what is now the iconic La Flor Dominicana brand?
TONY GÓMEZ: I was seven when he first entered the cigar world, he was always traveling and involved in different business ventures before then so I don’t even think I understood exactly what he was doing. It was just business as usual; he was going somewhere to work as he always did. What I do remember more than anything is the smell, it’s really an amazing thing how closely tied to memory your sense of smell is. Even to this day, every now and then when I’m with my father I catch a whiff of his cigar and for a tiny glimpse of time I get transported back to my childhood.
CD: We know you're a very creative person. How has that quality fit in at LFD?

TG: I think we’ve had a lot of success with some of my crazy ideas! Really the only thing I ever wanted to do with my life was something creative. I did a little bit of everything growing up and throughout my life; drawing, playing music, writing, design, etc. When I started working for the company it was on the road as a salesman, which was a lot of fun, but I really fell in love with the business when I moved to Santiago and got involved in the creation process. My father has given me a lot of freedom to execute my visions, everything from moon themed cigars to NFTs, and I’ve always appreciated that about him.
CD: A tobacco company has many processes. Which one do you identify with the most?
TG: Definitely the rolling, I love the craft and performance of it all. Chavetas, music, people cracking jokes, the rolling room just has a special ambiance compared to anywhere else in the factory or the farm. I’ve been rolling a lot myself lately, it’s become an important part of my day where I can just unwind and work with my hands. It is very cathartic.
CD: As a young Millennial, what has been your contribution in a traditional company?
TG: Create the LFD Instagram page, of course. What’s more millennial than that!?
CD: The premium tobacco industry is evolving with new generations of consumers. How is LFD responding to this change?
TG: I think we have a philosophy that doesn’t require much intentional change. We continue to do what we have always done, make great cigars that we love and have fun doing it. There is no secret to any of this, it’s just about doing things correctly. We don’t create products for market segments or try to chase fads or anything like that, I believe the only genuine way to make a great cigar is to make it for yourself. And that goes for both blend and packaging. I do think we’ve become better at marketing ourselves beyond just cigars and showcasing the unique personalities in our company. Between my father, my brother, and I there is a Gómez for every generation from Boomers to Gen Z!
CD: What has been the most challenging moment when you had to make a key deci-
sion to balance tradition with innovation?
TG: Probably when we launched the Golden Bull NFT. There certainly was no precedent for anything like that in the cigar industry before. LFD is in a unique position however, we never have to decide between tradition and innovation in that sense. I think innovation IS our tradition. We’re a relatively young company, 32 years old now, we compete with much older companies that have been passed down through multiple generations already. Us being a newcomer in the 90s with no traditions gave us a special edge where we could be different and create our own tradition with innovation at its core. That’s one of my favorite things about LFD is the freedom we have to create whatever we want; we were the first brand to ever patent a cigar shape so why shouldn’t we be the first to launch a cigar as an NFT?
CD: In all these years working at LFD, what do you consider to have been your greatest contribution to the company?
TG: Who knows, there are probably several things I could debate in my head about. I’ve had a lot of fun creating a lot of different things, you tell me! Perhaps my greatest contribution hasn't even happened yet.
CD: How do you handle the different points of view during the creation of new releases, especially with your father?
TG: We argue! Haha. Eventually one of us convinces the other one or one of us just gives up. We’re both very hard headed and confident in our opinions, but we’re always on the same page with the greater picture. We might argue about a small detail on the ring like colors or a logo placement but rarely do we ever disagree beyond that.
CD: What is the most important thing you have learned from your father in this business?
TG: Business is business, the same rules apply to basically any industry. Reputation is everything, not everyone is your friend, pay your bills on time, etc. What I’ve learned most from my father is to love your life and make it memorable. I’ve learned not to take myself too seriously, be approachable, treat everyone with kindness and respect. He lives his life in such a unique way, completely playing by his own rules and for me it has always been a pleasure to watch and learn from him.

¡Me he divertido mucho creando cosas diferentes, ya
me dirás!

José Tomás Domínguez, pionero en el cultivo de tabaco en la región sur del país // Joselito is a pioneer in tobacco cultivation in the southern region of the Dominican Republic

At his tobacco field in Santiago, surrounded by a lush tobacco plantation, we meet Joselito, as everyone knows José Tomás Domínguez. His pride in the upcoming harvest is evident. We are approaching the end of the 2026 tobacco harvest season, and the land has produced outstanding leaves of Dominican Olor, Connecticut Havana, and HVA, the varieties he grows most and from which he obtains the finest leaves used as filler and binder in the production of premium cigars.
Joselito began growing tobacco in 1996, and with his extensive experience, we were curious to learn his opinion about the development of tobacco cultivation in the Cibao region over the past thirty years. He tells us that the quality and variety of harvested tobacco have steadily improved, as has the number of cultivated hectares, thanks to soil testing and the discovery of new areas suitable for growing tobacco.
Speaking of discovering new areas for tobacco cultivation, Joselito’s experience growing tobacco in the southern lands of the Dominican Republic naturally comes up, a topic that many people are discussing today.
We asked him, How did you discover the southern lands of the country for tobacco cultivation? He replied, “In 2015, through a close friend, I had the opportunity to meet the Roa family in Las Matas de Farfán. They owned a large amount of land but needed someone with the expertise to determine whether it had the characteristics required to grow high-quality tobacco and access to sufficient water”.
He continued saying, “together with the Roa family and the Tobacco Institute, we planted different seed varieties to determine which types of tobacco could develop successfully. We then germinated one million seedlings brought from Constanza to conduct the first trial. We also brought in specialists in curing barn construction, and together with Mr.

Herminio Álvarez, we supervised and trained workers in land preparation and leaf harvesting. After the first harvest, in 2019, I brought Mr. Daniel Núñez to begin cultivating Broadleaf and Pennsylvania wrapper tobacco in the southern region”. Joselito concludes, “That first harvest was successful. The size and quality of the leaves were truly impressive.”
When asked, “What are your expectations for the future of this area of the country?” he responded, “Given how productive the southern lands are, I can proudly say that I see a very bright future for this region. In 2019, we started by growing filler and binder tobacco, and today we are producing high-quality wrapper tobacco, which I consider a major achievement.”
He concluded by informing us that this region of the country is currently benefiting from government support through the creation of institutions dedicated to tobacco development and curing facilities, financed through the Agricultural Bank.

Over the past few years, we've witnessed Yfrach Jacob's hard work and dedication in building the Altura brand, successfully positioning it not only locally but also in international markets. To learn more about his vision, strategy, consumer preferences, and what Altura has in store for the rest of this year, we sat down with its founder to delve deeper into these topics.
CIGARRO DOMINICANO: What does Altura represent today within the premium cigar industry?
YFRACH JACOB: Today, Altura represents a different vision within tobacco: a commitment to time, elevation, and slow processes as a way to develop tobacco with its own identity. From the beginning, we understood that growing tobacco in the mountains required us to rethink many of the industry’s traditional methods. Cooler temperatures completely
change the way tobacco grows, cures, and ferments. That led us to develop a much slower and more precise process, where every stage takes place at significantly lower temperatures than usual.
While much of the industry works with faster production cycles, at Altura we have chosen to respect the natural rhythm of the leaf: cultivation can take up to four months, curing between four and five months, and fermentation more than a year. All of this happens under controlled temperatures that rarely exceed 28 degrees Celsius. That slower pace changes the character of the tobacco in a profound way. The result is a more defined and elegant profile, where herbal notes, subtle fruit nuances, and delicate floral tones emerge in ways rarely found in traditional cigars.
More than trying to stand out for being different, our goal is to create an expression of tobacco that simply cannot be replicated outside this mountain terroir.

Finca Altura, ubicada en las altas montañas de República Dominicana // Altura Farm, located in the high mountains of the Dominican Republic
CD: You have been a pioneer in cultivating tobacco at high elevations. Why did you decide to pursue such an unconventional origin?
YJ: Interestingly, it was not a carefully planned decision from the start. The project was born from an unexpected situation during the pandemic, at a time when we were looking for a crop that could provide greater long-term stability. We already had farmland at high elevation and greenhouse structures operating for other crops. Tobacco initially entered the picture as an exploration within that environment, without imagining that the mountain climate would completely transform the behavior of the plant. As we became more involved in the process, we began noticing something very different in the leaf: a slower evolution, more defined aromas, and an uncommon depth. I remember there was a moment when I realized we were discovering something truly special. The altitude, the cool climate, and the natural patience demanded by the mountains were

giving life to a tobacco with its own personality. Honestly, that discovery was what made me fall in love with the project and decide to take it much further.
CD: Do you believe Altura is creating a new way of understanding terroir in tobacco?
YJ: Absolutely. For decades, the cigar industry has been associated with very specific origins and growing conditions. What we have discovered is that the mountains can profoundly transform the expression of tobacco.
Cooler temperatures, slower cultivation cycles, and precise control throughout every stage create a completely different evolution of the leaf. This has allowed us to develop aromatic and sensory profiles that are rarely found in traditional cigars. Rather than trying to force the tobacco in a certain direction, our philosophy has been to understand how altitude and climate naturally shape its character. I believe this is where Altura brings a different perspective to the concept of terroir: showing that origin not only influences tobacco, but can completely redefine the smoking experience itself.
CD: The brand’s international reception has been remarkable in a short period of time. What do you believe is connecting with the market?
YJ: I believe what first connects with smokers is the very distinctive experience that mountaingrown tobacco offers. There is a cleanliness in the finish and a definition in the aromas that feels very different within the cigar world.
Herbal nuances, fruit notes, and delicate floral tones unfold gradually throughout the smoke, creating flavors with depth and character. Each third evolves naturally, almost like a conversation between the different aromas and flavors of the tobacco. But beyond the sensory profile, I think what also connects is the feeling the cigar delivers: a moment of calm, disconnection, and reflection. Today’s smoker is looking for authenticity, but also for experiences that feel more personal and genuine. Altura has connected precisely because of that: a refined and memorable smoke that leaves a clean and elegant impression on the palate.
CD: You recently participated in a major cigar trade show in the United States. What perception did the market have of Altura?
YJ: The reception was very interesting because the market connected immediately with our identity. There was a great deal of curiosity surrounding the origin of the tobacco, the mountain cultivation process, and the experience the cigar offers. In fact, many people began referring to us as “the mountain cigar,” and I think that describes Altura very well: a cigar with a unique origin and a very defined personality. We also noticed growing interest in more modern approaches within the cigar world. Today’s smoker is much more open to discovering new profiles, as long as there is authenticity behind both the brand and the product.
More than attracting attention simply for being different, Altura has connected because it offers an elegant and modern smoke while preserving the artisanal essence and the character of mountain-grown tobacco.
CD: Today’s premium smoker seems to be looking for more than tradition. What do you think they are truly seeking when they discover a brand like Altura?
YJ: I believe today’s aficionado is searching for a more balanced and authentic experience. It is no longer only about strength or intensity, but about finding a smoke with harmony, depth, and character.
When someone discovers Altura, they encounter a cigar with a very subtle evolution on the palate: delicate aromas, layered flavors, and a clean finish that allows each transition to be appreciated without overwhelming the senses. But beyond the sensory side, I think aficionados are also looking for a pause. A moment of disconnection, quiet conversation, and intentional enjoyment. That kind of calmer and more refined experience connects deeply with today’s smoker.
Altura finds its place precisely there: in a balanced, clean, and unhurried smoke that reveals its character naturally.
“More than trying to stand out for being different, our goal is to create an expression of tobacco that simply cannot be replicated outside this mountain terroir.”
YJ: The Altura Third Harvest Lancero is one of the clearest expressions of our mountain-grown tobacco philosophy. It was created for aficionados who appreciate classic formats, aromatic richness, and a slow, elegant evolution throughout the smoke. It is crafted using a carefully selected blend of leaves grown at 4,500 feet above sea level, where cooler temperatures allow for a much slower and more precise development of the tobacco. That natural rhythm brings a very distinctive depth and character from the very first draw. Notes of noble woods, fresh herbal nuances, soft fruits, and delicate spices emerge alongside subtle hints of nuts and a gentle natural sweetness. Everything evolves in a clean and balanced way throughout the smoke.
The lancero format plays a fundamental role in that experience because it concentrates the smoke more precisely on the palate, allowing every transition of flavor and aroma to be appreciated clearly. The retrohale is refined, elegant, and very well defined.
Third Harvest represents our vision of the modern cigar: a complex, elegant, and balanced smoke created for those who value craftsmanship, patience, and the richness of handmade tobacco from the mountains of the Dominican Republic.
CD: How do you envision the evolution of premium tobacco in the coming years, and
what role does Altura want to play in that conversation?
YJ: I believe tobacco is entering a very interesting period of transformation. Today’s aficionado is looking for much more than tradition; they are looking for cigars with character, real stories, and a deeper connection to what they smoke.
We increasingly see a stronger connection between cigars and modern lifestyle. A new generation of aficionados values the complete experience: the ritual, the story behind the product, the environment, the conversation, and the feeling that comes with a good smoke. In that sense, I believe cigars will evolve from being simply a traditional product into something that goes far beyond the cigar itself. I believe Altura has a very natural place within that evolution because, from the beginning, our vision has focused on creating something honest, sensory-driven, and deeply connected to origin. More than following established formulas, we seek to offer a different way of understanding tobacco. I believe cigars will continue evolving into something much more personal, where the experience surrounding the smoke will carry greater value.
CD: What does luxury mean to you within the world of cigars?
YJ: To me, luxury in the cigar world has a great deal to do with time, authenticity, and the ability to create memorable moments. True luxury is not found only in rarity, but in the care behind every process: longer fermentations, more precise aging, and a constant pursuit of balance and depth within the tobacco. It also lies in discovering uncommon aromatic profiles, unexpected nuances, and smokes that evolve naturally and elegantly. That richness is what transforms a cigar into an experience.
I believe today’s aficionado increasingly values things that possess a genuine identity and cannot easily be replicated. And that is where origin, the mountains, and patience become especially meaningful.
To me, true luxury lies in that dedication to detail, in the time it takes to do things properly, and in creating something with its own personality.
CD: How do you envision Altura by the end of 2026?
YJ: I see Altura entering a new stage of evolution within the tobacco world. Our focus is on continuing to deepen the work we are doing at Altura Farm by developing our own wrapper, binder, and filler varieties grown at high elevation.
One of the projects that excites us the most is the development of proprietary genetics adapted specifically to mountain terroir. We believe there is enormous potential to develop varieties that express more precisely the character of this environment and the natural influence of altitude on tobacco. I believe Altura’s future lies precisely there: continuing to evolve from origin while maintaining a vision rooted in patience, authenticity, and artisanal excellence. By the end of 2026, we want Altura to continue establishing itself as a reference for origin and innovation within the global tobacco world.

Elba Rodríguez, gerente general de Tabacalera El Artista // Mrs. Rodríguez, general Manager of Tabacalera El Artista

She’s main focus is on resource administration, finance, legal matters, and corporate governance
y criterios.
CD: Conociendo a Elba a nivel personal: ¿Cómo definirías tu personalidad?
Momento: Los atardeceres. Ver un atardecer me llena y me recarga.
Elba Rodríguez is a Law graduate from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), where she completed her studies in 2011. Although her academic background was focused on the practice of Law, she decided to fully join the family business, taking on the commitment of contributing to its growth and continuity.
Since then, she has developed her professional career within Tabacalera El Artista, gradually getting involved in different areas of the business and gaining a full understanding of the company.
As a member of the Third Generation of Tabacalera El Artista, we had a pleasant conversation with Elba in the context of her participation as a guest panelist at the "New Generations of Tobacco" Business Forum organized by our specialized magazine.
CD: What is your main responsibility at Tabacalera El Artista?
ER: Within the company, I’m involved in all areas of the business, although my main focus is on resource administration, finance, legal matters, and corporate governance. I participate in the most important decisions of the organization and work closely with different teams to contribute to the proper operation, growth, and continuous strengthening of the company.
CD: What are some of the most valuable lessons you have learned from your father, Radhamés Rodríguez, about leading a company with such a long tradition?
ER: One of the most valuable lessons I have learned from my father is the importance of having a long-term vision. It is impressive how he has always been able to look beyond immediate results and make decisions thinking about the future of the company and even future generations.
I have also learned a lot from his discipline, perseverance, and ability to stay strong in the face of challenges. But above all, one of the lessons I value the most is his human leadership and social commitment.
CD: As part of the new generation of the company, what personal vision are you bringing to the company?
ER: In recent years, one of my main priorities has been contributing to strengthening our processes, teams, and organizational structure, building a solid foundation that allows us to continue growing. This has represented important challenges in terms of coordination, integration, and alignment between the different areas of the company. I believe that the growth of an organization depends not only on its products

Elba Rodríguez, miembro de la tercera generación de Tabacalera El Artista // Elba is member of the Third Generation of Tabacalera El Artista
or results, but also on the people who are part of it. That is why developing leaders within the company is something I consider essential for the future.
I also see opportunities to explore new areas related to the tobacco industry that can complement our operations and support the company’s growth.
CD: How have you and the company changed since you arrived until today?
ER: A lot has changed. I remember that when I joined the company, there was no clear direction or defined plan. I only knew I wanted to be part of the family business. I started by observing, listening, and learning about the different areas of the company. In my first days, a team member, noticing my interest in learning, approached me and offered to teach me the processes she was responsible for. That was my first learning experience within the company. From there, I became involved in each department, identifying improvement opportunities and better understanding how the business worked. At that time, much of the operation and decision-making depended on one person. Over time, we have worked on strengthening our structure, creating more defined departments, building stronger teams, and establishing processes that allow for a more efficient and organized management. It has been a continuous growth process, and the company has grown
significantly over these years. I feel very honored to be part of this evolution and to contribute, together with a great team, to the growth of the company.
CD: How would you describe the responsibility of carrying such an important family name in the premium cigar industry?
ER: For me, it represents a great responsibility to continue a legacy built on many years of effort, sacrifice, and persistence. It represents the responsibility of preserving and strengthening a history built on consistency and quality, which is what defines us. Maintaining those standards and continuing to drive growth is a commitment I take very seriously.
And that responsibility goes beyond our company, because we are part of an industry that has positioned the Dominican Republic as a global leader in premium cigar production. For me, it is an honor to represent that legacy.
CD: What personal lessons have you learned from working closely with family, especially your father and brother?
ER: Working as a family has been a great learning experience and also a big challenge. From the beginning, I had to earn my place and demonstrate the value I could bring. Over time, I have gained trust and respect for my ideas, contributions, and responsibilities.
Each of us brings different perspectives, ideas, and criteria. Sometimes these differences can lead to disagreements, but in the end we all share the same common goal. It has also been very important to learn how to separate family dynamics from business dynamics and maintain that balance, which is essential to preserve both family and working relationships.
But honestly, I feel very privileged to work with my family. And it is very beautiful to see how my daughters, in their innocence, have started showing interest in the company and feeling part of it.
CD: Getting to know Elba on a personal level: How would you define your personality? Preferences… food? drink? cigar? place? country? moment?
ER: Personality? I’m an observant, reserved, receptive, and analytical person. I have great strength and perseverance in the face of challenges. A woman of faith and follower of Jesus.
FOOD: Tacos. DRINK: Coffee. CIGAR: Artista Series. And Puro Ámbar will always have a special place among my favorites. PLACE: An open space surrounded by nature, where I can feel fresh air and enjoy a good cigar. COUNTRY: Dominican Republic. There is no better country in the world. MOMENT: Sunsets. Watching a sunset fills me and recharges me.
