“Regardless of where you stand politically, there is no denying that America's recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have thrown forward countless stories of heroism and examples of individuals who are ready to step up for the cause. There is another important war that Americans have been engaged in for some time now, at home, which is in need of some heroes. That's the war on obesity, especially in children. Most of us know the grim statistics: Two-thirds of us are overweight; one-third are obese (almost 36 percent of Americans - 17 percent of children aged 2 to 19). $147 billion is spent every year on health problems related to obesity (forecasted to rise to $343 billion in 2018). It is estimated by 2020 that 50 percent of the U.S. population will be obese. The health of the U.S. is going the wrong way- and up until now, many churches have been part of the problem and not the cure . . . think spaghetti dinners, pancake breakfasts, ice cream socials, potlucks and donuts on Sunday morning. The Bible Belt has been widening, but not in a way ordained by God.” (Daniel Amen) "The idea is to fight the war on obesity in a very positive way". (Samir Becic)
PRINCIPLE 1: My body was ___________ and ___________ by God You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit them together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it. (Psalm 139:13-14 – LB)
PRINCIPLE 2: My body ______________________________ to God! Haven’t you yet learned that your body is the home of the Holy Spirit God gave you, and that he lives within you? Your own body does not belong to you. For God has bought you with a great price. So use every part of your body to give glory back to God because he owns it. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – LB)
PRINCIPLE 3:My body should be ______________________ to God to _______________________________ Him! So if you eat or drink or whatever you do, do everything to honor God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 - NLV)
