B
orn and raised in East Lansing, Michigan, Alfred Laurence has always been deeply connected to his community. Eight years ago, he discovered a passion for photography that has since become the driving force of his creative life. Starting with a simple Samsung digital camera, Alfred captured the world around him with a fresh and compelling perspective. However, a home break-in resulted in the loss of his first camera, nearly derailing his budding photography journey. But the story didn’t end there. Two photographers, one from Atlanta and the other from Chicago, took notice of Alfred's talent. Their encouragement and support led to the launch of a GoFundMe campaign that allowed him to purchase his first professional camera. With their guidance, Alfred honed his skills and expanded his artistry, transforming his vision into a craft that inspires and captivates. Turn to Page 5 THE CHRONICLE...
LISC CEO Michael T. Pugh Delivers Commencement Address at Alma Mater, Eastern Michigan University

ichael T. Pugh, president and CEO of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), returned to his alma mater to deliver the winter commencement address to the latest crop of students graduating from Eastern Michigan University (EMU). gree in Commercial Science at the ceremony. A native of Detroit, Pugh earned a bachelor’s degree in health care administration at EMU, making him the first person in his immediate family to graduate from college.
