Dr. Dilligaf Dr. Dilligaf, If I were to wreck my bike do I need to get it blessed again at one of those Blessing of the Bikes events? I don’t know if my luck has run out or not. What’s your thoughts on this? -Worried about Riding Dear Worrired about Riding, DON’T be worried. If you wreck a bike and you are still around to worry about it you have already been blessed. So many don’t get the opportunity to even consider this. But to make sure that you understand about having a bike blessed let me give some information for your consideration. Blessing a bike has little to do with a motorcycle it’s self. It does however have a lot to do with the rider. Blessing a bike will not make it run better, operate differently or make worn parts last longer. Safe operation, pre-ride inspections and proper maintenance will not be affected by a prayer. What maybe affected is your attitude while riding. Believing that there is a higher power willing to ride with you, direct your path and remove obstacles that may cause you harm is really what it is about. In Matthew 17:20 Jesus said “ Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. People often wish that they had more faith, or a stronger faith and possibly a deeper faith. Sometimes we think that if we could muster more faith from within ourselves, we can accomplish more. That’s a common mistake to assume that power is sourced in faith itself. But in The Word on two seperate occasions we are told that a “mustard seed” sized faith can result in great things. A mustard seed is is 1 to 2 millimeters in size. That is really small, so is it really a lot of faith? So the strength of our faith isn’t relative to the size of it but based on the object of it. If your faith even though small is placed in an all powerful force, great things can happen. One more quote from Hebrews 1:1 “ Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”. Having said all that my encouragement is to have a little faith,don’t worry and be happy. Being happy to me means to ride when I can and that is being blessed. -Dr. Dilligaf

Dr. Dilligaf, Why aren’t the blessing of the bikes held at a bar? I’ve seen people at them drinking wherever they are held. -Curious Observer Curious Observer, I believe the bike culture currently revolves around the bar scene to the extreme. Today when you see someone make a FB or Instagram posts about wind therapy they are alomost invariably at a Bar. For me,real wind therapy is about riding some serious miles, seeing new sights and letting my thoughts and concerns being carried away in the wind. What a lot of newer riders call wind therapy is Alcohol therapy. That really shouldn’t be an accepted mix. Alcohol and motorcycles can be a harmful and sometimes deadly mix. Having said that I would refer you to look back at the previous column and try to understand that asking for a blessing to protect you from yourself isn’t really showing faith. Mustard seed sized or any for that matter. I don’t judge or try to change minds but I do like to offer perspective. If you attend a “Blessing of the Bikes” do so in faith. If you choose not to attend I RESPECT that. Pretending isn’t believing it is make believe. Dr. Dilligaf

Do You Know Why I Ride? by

I did not grow up around motorcycles. I rode ATV’s in my teens but that was it. I have been married to Greg for 29 years. He purchased a motorcycle in 1992. I rode that a couple times by myself until I dropped it and cracked the fairing (It was only a couple months old). I was only on the backseat from then on out. In 2016 he purchased a new Harley (I have yet to ride that on my own although he has offered!). At the time, I was dumbstruck that he could so easily spend that amount of money on something with 2 wheels. After riding on the backseat for 10 months I could not imagine being anywhere but in the driver’s seat! I signed up for a motorcycle driving course at our local Harley dealership, passed, and went shopping for one of my own. I became the proud owner of a 2017 Heritage Softail! It was incredibly easy to spend the money on a new motorcycle! I am sure all can relate as to the feeling of pleasure and freedom riding your own bike. I have owned mine for over 3 years now and have over 30,000 miles on it. Being a first-time owner as well as a female rider has had its challenges. When I picked my motorcycle up from the dealership and got on it to ride home, it felt so heavy. I was so afraid I had made a huge mistake. My heart was beating out of my chest with fright. The more times I rode, the lighter it felt. I learned a few times, the hard way, how not to turn a bike around on hills. And yes, I dropped it twice, with only a few scratches as proof (physics!). I forgot to put my kickstand up more than a couple times, but thankfully have never forgotten to put it down when appropriate. Thanks to the 10 months of riding on the back of my husbands’ bike, I was already accustomed to the smells of roadkill, the bugs and the birds that often hit you.

We continue to meet new friends that are bikers in our area each year. The South Carolina biker community is the most kind, giving, and fun group of people. Before COVID-19, we ventured up to North Carolina to some bike rallies. We again doubled our friend list with so many new friends. We were welcomed by the regulars with open arms. I cannot say enough positives about these incredible, fascinating, and generous bikers! Each rally we add to our friend list. We have made so many new lifelong friends. I do not know if I explained it very well, how it is being a female rider. Most of the people I meet without my bike are very surprised that I ride my own. Especially at work, as I am a nurse working in a hospital. Apparently, I do not look like a biker. Sometimes I ride to work or ride on an errand on my own. But most of the time I ride with my husband. So, I probably do not have the same experiences as a single female rider. I always have someone there looking out for me. I always have someone there in case I have a problem with my bike. He is the one who picked my bike up each time I dropped it. I like for him to lead. He points out all the hazards on the road. Although, if someone is tailgating us, he will move to the rear. Greg even carries a small hose in his saddlebag in case I run out of fuel while we are riding the back roads (his bike has a larger gas tank). I learned a lot during the 10 months I rode on the back of his bike. But nothing is like the experiences you get to have riding on your own. These experiences are the best time of my life. My only regret is not buying sooner. If after reading this article you see us out and about riding please stop and say hi!

The first couple years on my own bike riding around our small town, I received lots of thumbs up, positive comments, and smiles from people while I was out riding alongside my husband. That still happen sometimes, but I think most are used to seeing us now. My non-motorcycle owning friends and family are happy for me. And the biker community in our area has been extremely supportive. I receive the same courtesies as my husband when we ride with groups and go on poker runs. We have made many new friends since we started riding. 12

I grew up on the Mill Hill in Pelzer S.C. A product of my parents divorcing when I was young. I grew up in a split Household. I went through a few traumatic experiences as a teenager culminating with my Grandfathers death my senior year of High School. I was already partying, but this sent me over the edge. I was introduced to Meth at the age of 19. I was selling and using large amounts at a young age. This gave me a sense of being “A Big Dog” as I always had Plenty of Ladies, Friends, Money, and Stuff. However, I lost so much More! My Family, Trust, My Reputation, My Freedom, Everything I had ever owned! The entire decade of the 90’s is a Blur. I came out the other side as a shell of the Person GOD created me to be. I had hit rock bottom. In 2009 I was Done and Tired of living that way and quit Meth for good. I met my wife Michael and we married in August of 2010. We had a rocky couple of years as she was secretly still using, and I was drinking like a fish. We both agreed we had to make changes and started going to Honea Path First Baptist Church. I got sober in September of 2012 and Thank Jesus I got saved October of 2013 and Baptized in February 2014 and I have never looked back.

I Thank God he never stopped loving me even when I was at my lowest. I am, proudlynow, a Ministry Leader at Celebrate Recovery H.P. now for 6 years this April 16th. We have seen many lives changed, Families Restored, and have gained Forever Family during that time. We just love seeing people find freedom from their Hurts, Habits, and Hang-ups through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! He gave me so much more than I ever deserved, and I just want others to know there is freedom in their lives! We joined Broken Chains JC a while back and have really taken CR in the wind ever since. Our CR meetings are every Thursday at 6pm @ Honea Path First Baptist. Everyone is welcome no matter what you’re dealing with. Currently, BCJC has Brothers & Sisters all over the country. We are a fellowship of bikers with Freedom in Jesus Christ through the Ministry of Celebrate Recovery. We help others to realize that change is possible! No matter who 1 BCJC is having our very first S.C. upstate crew spring rally Saturday April 17th from 11am until. it is family friendly, so everyone is welcome. We will have vendors selling all kind of good stuff, swap meet, food, music all day, a kid’s area, and a few other surprises! We will give some of the proceeds to Pathway House in Greenwood. They do a lot of great thing to help men and women, get their lives back on the right track. I would encourage everyone to come out and support a great cause and bring the family to have some fun! I’ve rode motorcycles for 20 years, I love them. I love the people I meet and the places I get to go. But riding changed for me when I started CR... my whole life did, including riding. I still love to ride, I still love the people and places, but now that I am sober after 20 years of addiction it is much more clear just how wonderful it all is. My brothers and sisters of BCJC are like me. We just want everyone else to experience what we have. Freedom. True Freedom. The kind that you feel when you hit that stretch of road that is wide open, no cars and you can open up that throttle and let the engine roar!! I feel that now in my spirit every day. I am not a slave to anything because who the Son sets free is free indeed!! And that is true JOY!! Yeah, I love to ride my beautiful purple Harley Davidson Fatboy(Purple because it is the color of royalty and I am a daughter of the king), I love to see God’s creation, I love to meet all the wonderful people. I love doing it with my husband who is my riding partner for life...and I am forever grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ, who gave it all back to me when I was throwing it away for drugs!!!! Christian Riders Questionnaire Q:Does riding a motorcycle relate to your faith? A:Yes and no

Q:If so How? A:Its something that can be peaceful riding around the county side, enjoying nature and riding with friends and family can be meaningful. sometimes sharing stories with friends about my faith and how God gives me meaning

Q:If after did you change the way you lived your life the people you hung around or how you acted? A: Riding gives me opportunities to enjoy telling others where I come from. How my family is involved in my life and how God is involved in it.

Q: How does it strengthen your Faith? A:While riding around the county side or seeing the beauty in the mountains. Wow, only God can make something so beautiful. My faith is strengthened by knowing only my God could create all that beauty and life.

Q: What advice would you give to another rider on building their Faith in God? A: Do not be ashamed of who you are, let them know God is there for them. Q:. Has being a biker made it easier to reach out to people and tell them about Christ? A: The normal places I go No it is not a problem

Q: Did you become a Christian before or after you started riding a motorcycle? A: I have been a Christian my whole life.

Q: When you are riding do you think about God? A: I always think about God.

Q: How has being a biker helped lead people to Christ? A: I have let those around me in my bike chapter and other events know who I am. I volunteered to be Chaplain of my Chapter. That has opened a few doors. I have done a funeral for a friend and performed a wedding in Hawaii for a state Rally. I have also done a Few “Blessing of the Bikes”

Q: Is it harder because of the stereotype that people have placed on bikers? A: Most bikers and clubs can be friendly and when you approach them God has and can provide opportunities for witnessing. Q. How has being a Christian changed how you interact with other bikers? A: Some when they find out I am a Christian tend to wander off, no one has said anything mean. But some want to be left alone and that is fine. But some ask questions, I try to answer them simply. I let them know who and why I believe as I do. As a lot of folks find out that I am a Christian, they open up to me and tell me about themselves and why and what they believe. QR stands for “Quick

Response.”

While they may look simple, QR codes are capable of storing lots of data. But no matter how much they contain, when scanned, the QR code should allow the user to access information instantly – hence why it’s called a Quick Response code.

HOW TO: 1. Open the QR Code reader on your phone. (You may need to download a FREE oe from you APP Store) 2. Hold your device over a QR Code so that it’s clearly visible within your smartphone’s screen. -Two things can happen when you correctly hold your smartphone over a QR Code:

1. The phone automatically scans the code! -or2. On some readers, you have to press a button to snap a picture, not unlike the button on your smartphone camera. (If necessary, press the button.)

Presto! Your smartphone reads the code and navigates to the intended destination, which doesn’t happen instantly. It may take a few seconds on most devices.

#TylerStrong Fundraiser Exceeds $10,000 FOLLOW UP Carolina Chrome follow up to our March Issue 151, #TylerStrong Fundraiser: As reported Arif aka RF, a motorcycle community leader and owner of RF’s Corner Grill, Bubba’sBiscuts and Venture’s 2.0, heard of a biker family in need. Rob Hardee’s son; Tyler, was involved in a motorcycle accident. RF reached out to other leaders in the biker community and his staff at both RF’s Corner Grill & Ventures 2.0. He went over and beyond, other bars and/ or restaurants in the area by not only

hosting a bike night but also donating profit from BOTH restaurants that day!! So when asked: “are we lucky to have him or is he lucky to have us”... It’s hard to say. With his passion, brains and love of the bike community, I sure am glad he’s on our side! Together in support, the love of tacos and motorcycles, more than $10,000 was raised. Thank you RF for even making this possible, as well as; Corner Grill & Ventures 2.0 staff, customers and the bike community!

Motorcycles & SC Veterans Flag Retirement Ceremony

On 20 February 2021, The VFW Post 8738 held their quarterly Adopt a highway clean up and Flag Retirement Ceremony. The 375-member post, located in Lexington SC, sponsored these 2 events on the same day. Jr. Vice Commander Darren Wiseman was on hand to oversee operations. The clean-up was performed by the U.S. Military Vets MC and ABATE. They collected 20 bags of trash, that weighed over 200 lbs. total.

The clean-up was followed by breakfast; compliments to the cooks, Alex Hoffarth and Creig Benson with Warhorse MC.

Other members were sorting flags to be retired. The "U.S. Flag Code 1” simply reads: 'The flag, when it is in such a condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning,'" The ceremony began shortly after breakfast with the fire barrel being lit. Once the barrel was ready and the flag was being folded, Jr. Vice Commander, Darren Wiseman; read the traditional ceremonial steps as followed:

1. The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life. 2. The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life. 3. The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world. 4. The fourth fold represents our weaker nature; as American citizens trusting in God, it is Him we turn to in times of peace, as well as in times of war, for His divine guidance. 5. The fifth fold is a tribute to our country. In the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong." 6. The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. 7. The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the armed forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. 8. The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor our mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day. 9. The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood. It has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that has molded the character of the men and women who have made this country great. 10. The 10th fold is a tribute to father, who has also given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was first born. 11. The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 12. The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost. 13. The 13th and last fold, when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, “In God We Trust.”

As the 13 steps were read and completed, Wiseman ends the ceremony with: "U.S. Flag Code 1 simply reads: 'The flag, when it is in such a condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning,'" The symbolism is a great tribute to the flag and our great nation. Following the reading and folding, the retirement begins. One flag is placed in the flames, then another. The reason for one flag is, every flag has a story and a special meaning. The post collected over 195 flags from different locations. The post accepts flags from Lowe's, citizens and they also have a drop box at the Post located on Cedarcrest in Lexington. After the ceremony “The Veterans reminisced about their military life”. This is a great way to show Patriotism and the public how Veterans have blazed a path for American history. This event is open to the public and are encouraged to come out. Many thanks to all the Vets and VFW Post 8738 for keeping America Strong.

On March 3rd, I took a ride to Chesnee, SC to visit with Dennis – the owner of Chesnee Classic Cycle. I hadn’t seen him in almost a year because of the pandemic. He closed the shop when the virus hit last spring. I just wanted to see if he was OK. When I arrived at the shop, it looked different. There were a couple bikes out front but when I walked inside, Dennis wasn’t sitting in his big chair drinking a beer. Instead of Dennis, I was surprised to see Travis from Jokers Powersports behind the counter. He greeted me with a big smile. I must have looked dumbfounded because he started to tell me that he and Todd (the chief mechanic from Jokers) were now running the shop.

Dennis was sort of retired because of some physical limitations. They changed the name to “Wicked Wrench Motorcycle Company”. Even though is it the same location, they wanted everybody to know that they were not affiliated with the old “Chesnee Classic Cycle”. “Wicked Wrench Motorcycle Company” caters to American made V-Twin motorcycles. They can do any repairs or upgrades to them. They can even customize your bike to get it just the way you dreamed it could be. I’ve known Travis for a few years, and know that he is honest and trustworthy. If “Miss Vickie” needed some work that I couldn’t do, I’d take her to Wicked Wrench.
