When Victory Guarantees Contempt

Each year around this time we are preparing our program for the annual gala. Part of that preparation includes compiling video testimonies of our clients and/or those who work within Choices of the Heart. After doing this for 23 years, I can honestly say that God blew me away once again! I witnessed people open their hearts about God’s redeeming grace after abortion, His powerful presence to save a baby girl right before an abortion appointment and His sovereign will over a man’s life who was a proclaimed atheist. These stories are what drives this ministry to continue our life saving mission even in the face of hostility, the likes of which I have not seen. Recent occurrences both at our mobile unit location and on the phone and website by those who oppose this work have prompted us to set up security cameras, have a male presence at all mobile locations and alert the police of the ongoing intimidations. Although reassuring, none of the previous are as powerful as our ultimate defense: the power of prayer. This all comes at a time when we are serving more clients than ever in our history, getting 50% more traffic on our website and launching into Atlantic City with the mobile ultrasound unit. It reminds me of when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. This was one of the greatest miracles performed by Jesus, yet that’s exactly when the Pharisees sought to kill him. They were highly offended by what Jesus was saying and doing. At the root of that offense was fear. “If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” John 11:48 Isn’t that exactly why abortion rights advocates want to shut down pregnancy centers? In their minds, if we continue this mighty work of God in saving lives and helping women, their right to abortion will be taken away. Fear drives them. Foolishly, just like the Pharisees they don’t see that the thing they want eliminated IS their only hope. Even Jesus took wise steps to steer clear of the Pharisees’ plans by not moving publicly any longer among the people of Judea (v. 54). Jesus knew His mission. He was not thwarted, and neither are we. Please continue to pray for Choices of the Heart and all the ministries God has placed in mission fields all over the world. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Gal. 6:9

Pearls Before Swine On Tuesday evenings, our team goes out to deliver layette gift bags to our moms who have just had their babies. This is when they can share the Gospel with the clients, their families and sometimes even their friends. It is a beautiful time of fellowship. We often get to hear wonderful stories about their visit and get updates on the clients’ needs. This particular story made us all smile! Carly* just had a new baby boy and welcomed our team into her home. Carly was with her friend, who was holding the sleeping baby. They chatted and started to deliver the Gospel message. Both girls said they were Catholic and knew they were going to Heaven because they were good people. In the middle of discussing the Gospel, her friend had to leave. When she handed the newborn back to mom and started to walk out the door, the baby woke up, and Carly’s 70lb potbelly pig got into the house. They tried to get back to the Gospel; however, the baby started to cry and the pig, who was very protective of the baby, assumed the baby was crying because of our team. The pig was trying to kick them out of the house, while Carly was trying to get the pig in the other room. Every time they would go back to the Gospel, the pig would return. It seemed like the pig just wanted to hear the Gospel as well. Finally, our team had the opportunity to ask Carly if she would like to transfer her trust from being a good person and trust totally on what Jesus did on the cross for her. She simply had to ask Him to become the Lord of her life. She made the decision to pray and receive salvation! As for the pig, he was not harmed during this presentation, nor did he jump off any cliffs! *Name was changed for confidentiality.
