US Youth Soccer and U.S. Soccer Unite: What It Means for Virginia
“Virginia supported this historic decision because it must deliver more than organizational alignment. It must produce meaningful benefits for the players, families, clubs, leagues, coaches and referees who make the game possible every day,” said Serkan Örsan, Executive Director of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association. “Our members have built a strong foundation across the Commonwealth. VYSA will bring their local knowledge and priorities to this process, working with U.S. Soccer and USYS to make the game more accessible, easier to navigate and better connected for every Virginia community.”
What This Means for Soccer in Virginia Throughout the two-year process, State Associations will work closely with U.S. Soccer and USYS to help shape the future of soccer in communities around the country. The goal is to create a stronger and more connected soccer system that can: • Bring more resources and investment to soccer locally. • Strengthen State Associations and their ability to support and grow the game in their communities. • Create more opportunities for people to play and stay in the game.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Aug. 29, 2026) - The Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) joined State Associations across the country in supporting the historic decision to integrate US Youth Soccer (USYS) with U.S. Soccer. The move is intended to bring more investment and resources to local soccer, create better experiences for players and families, and strengthen alignment across the game.
• Better support clubs, leagues, coaches and referees serving players every day.
USYS State Associations voted to approve the change during the USYS Annual General Meeting on August 29. Beginning September 1, USYS and U.S. Soccer started a two-year integration process that brings USYS's decades of experience, relationships and reach together with U.S. Soccer's resources and national scale.
The integration is part of U.S. Soccer's broader Pathways Strategy to create a more connected future for the game. For VYSA, that work starts locally by building on the strengths of our communities and expanding access, support and opportunities across the Commonwealth.
• Make soccer easier for families to understand and navigate. • Connect local communities more directly to U.S. Soccer and the resources, expertise and opportunities available nationally.

VYSA is proud to recognize Valentina Day, a 2013 Virginia State ODP player was recently invited to train with Queens Park Rangers (QPR) of the English Football League in England. Valentina, who plays club soccer with Virginia Villarreal Academy, continues to represent Virginia at a high level while gaining valuable experience. Congratulations to Valentina on this exciting opportunity and achievement!
