The Design Department at Chiswick Auctions presents an important selection of 20th and 21st century design, celebrating innovation, craftsmanship and the enduring influence of leading figures in modern and contemporary decorative arts. A highlight is the second instalment from the collection of Mo Amelia Tietenbaum, author and recognised specialist in the work of Jean-Michel Frank and COMTE.
Following the success of the first offering, this group brings together important works by Jean-Michel Frank and COMTE, including guéridons, club armchairs and a parchment-covered ‘Croisillon’ table. Two rare Jean-Michel Frank mica-covered tables from another private collection, produced during his tenure with Chanaux et Pelletier and accompanied by certificates of authenticity from the Comité Jean-Michel Frank, provide a further highlight.
A distinguished international private collection features works by Fontana Arte, Gio Ponti, Josef Frank, Joe Colombo, Bruno Mathsson, Jonathan Saunders, Valentin Loellmann, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, and Matt Paweski. The collection is led by a bespoke charred oak and bronze dining suite by Valentin Loellmann, acquired directly from the maker.
The ceramics section features works by Jennifer Lee, Gordon Baldwin, Carol McNicoll, Richard Slee, Tim Fluck, Richard Batterham, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie, John Ward, William Marshall and Peter Hayes, reflecting the breadth of studio pottery and contemporary ceramics.
Completing the sale is a carefully curated selection of British studio glass, with works by Peter Layton, founder of London Glassblowing, Louis Thompson and Paul Barcroft. Together, these makers demonstrate the exceptional technical skill, inventive use of colour and form, and enduring appeal that have established British studio glass as a highly collectable field.

Reflecting a discerning eye for innovation, craftsmanship and timeless design, this international private collection brings together an exceptional group of works spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection features pieces by Fontana Arte, Gio Ponti, Josef Frank, Joe Colombo, Bruno Mathsson, Jonathan Saunders, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, alongside a sculpture by the contemporary Los Angeles artist Matt Paweski.
A bespoke dining table and accompanying chairs by the acclaimed Dutch designer Valentin Loellmann form one of the collection’s principal highlights. Loellmann blurs the boundaries between sculpture and function. His pieces are characterised by their organic silhouettes, refined detailing and sensitive use of natural materials, often juxtaposing richly figured timber with patinated bronze to create furniture that feels both timeless and deeply contemporary.
Executed in charred oak and bronze, the suite exemplifies Loellmann’s distinctive aesthetic. Acquired directly from the artist, the lot also comes with impeccable provenance, giving collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a work by a major emerging contemporary designer.

Studio Pottery
Highlights among the studio pottery and contemporary ceramics include an elegant asymmetric vessel by Jennifer Lee, showcasing her signature laminated coloured clays, and a monumental bowl by Gordon Baldwin, whose expressive use of slip, gestural brushwork and cut surfaces creates a powerful work.
From a private collection come three groups by the pioneering ceramic artist Carol McNicoll, who died in 2025. A leading figure among the generation of women emerging from the Royal College of Art in the 1970s, McNicoll became celebrated for her witty and inventive ceramics. The works offered reinterpret Victorian tea wares, transforming conjoined cups and saucers into playful yet sophisticated compositions.
Three works by Richard Slee, each accompanied by notes from the artist, bring another distinctive voice to the section.
Works by Tim Fluck, named Ceramic Review’s ‘One to Watch’, highlight an exciting contemporary practice. Since completing his MA at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, in 2023, Fluck has exhibited at Ceramic Art London and Collect. His colourful, precarious architectural forms evoke the visual language of Memphis Design while remaining distinctly his own.
The section also features works by Richard Batterham, including a large jar and cover, ash-glazed ceramics by Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie, and pieces by John Ward, William Marshall, Peter Hayes and other leading figures in British studio ceramics.
