ANIMAL SHELTER

OVERVIEW

The Chino Valley Animal Shelter continued providing quality animal care and public safety services throughout June while maintaining a 100% live release rate. Staff cared for 38 incoming animals, reunited 21 lost pets with their owners, completed 16 adoptions, and Animal Control Officers responded to 95 calls for service. Community support also funded significant facility improvements.

COMMUNITY & SHELTER IMPROVEMENTS

$25,000 NOAH Foundation Donation

The NOAH Foundation donated $25,000 to fund new shade cloth structures over the shelter's dog play yards, allowing dogs to safely spend more time outdoors during the summer months.

Front Meet-and-Greet Yard

The shelter refreshed the front meet-and-greet yard, creating a clean, welcoming environment where prospective adopters can meet their future pets.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

PD STAFFING UPDATE

We conducted a new-hire testing process on April 18, 2026 Five candidates completed phases of the selection process, including the physical agility assessment, written examination, and oral board interview At the conclusion of testing, two candidates were eliminated from further consideration, while three advanced to the background investigation phase During the background process, two of the three candidates were disqualified The remaining candidate successfully completed all pre-employment requirements and accepted a conditional offer of employment

Police Recruit Sean Salazar began his employment with the Chino Valley Police Department on June 22, 2026, to complete pre-academy onboarding requirements, and is scheduled to attend the NARTA Police Academy beginning in July 2026 We are excited to welcome Recruit Salazar to the Chino Valley Police Department family and look forward to supporting him throughout the academy and as he begins his law enforcement career with our department

Officer Stephenson is currently in Phase I of the Field Training Program and is progressing well If he continues to meet all training objectives, he is expected to successfully complete the mandatory 16-week CVPD Field Training Program and be released to solo patrol in early November 2026

Currently, the department has five vacant sworn positions Three of these vacancies have existed for the majority of the 2025–26 fiscal year An additional vacancy resulted from the retirement of Sergeant Deana Winn, and the fifth was created by the resignation of Officer Hector Torres. Officer Torres has chosen to pursue employment outside of law enforcement to provide more time at home with his family as they navigate ongoing health-related matters The department is also anticipating a sixth vacancy, as one officer is currently considering a lateral transfer to another local law enforcement agency that offers greater career opportunities, as well as compensation and benefits that are not presently available within our department

We continue to actively recruit qualified lateral officers and entry-level candidates to fill our remaining vacancies. While those recruitment efforts are ongoing, the positions remain unfilled at this time, and our focus remains on attracting applicants with the experience, training, and qualifications needed to successfully integrate into our department At this time, any newly hired employees will be scheduled to attend the academy until the next available class, which is set to begin in January 2027.

Although the current pool of new hire and lateral candidates appears limited, our hiring standards will remain unchanged The community and the Town of Chino Valley deserve highly qualified, exceptional individuals, not simply positions filled for the sake of staffing numbers.

GOVERNOR’S OFFICE OF HIGHWAY SAFETY (GOHS) UPDATE

Utilizing grant funding from GOHS, we were able to participate in the following details in June: June 2026 1 Traffic Detail in town (1 CVPD officer assigned to each 2-hours detail) 3 Speed Details in town (1 CVPD officer assigned to each 4-hour detail) 1 Tri-City multi-agency DUI Task Force (1 CVPD officer assigned to 8-hour detail)
