JULY 2026 - UPDATE
PARKS UPDATE Parks staff continued routine maintenance and improvements throughout Town facilities, including: Continued mowing twice weekly and ongoing weed abatement at all park locations. Installed a new flagpole at the Cemetery. Repaired water leaks at the Community Center ballfields and Memory Park. Began gathering quotes for top-dressing material for park and field maintenance. Assisted the Streets Division with striping at the Road 2 North and Road 1 West intersection. Trimmed sycamore trees along the main pathways at Community Center Park. Completed equipment inspections, audits, and routine greasing of Parks equipment. Developed new Standard Operating Procedures for equipment use and maintenance processes.
AQUATICS UPDATE The Aquatic Center has enjoyed a fairly quiet month as we continue operating under the revised pool schedule. With fewer closures than anticipated, we are grateful to our dedicated Aquatics staff for stepping up and helping us finish the season strong. The pool will officially close for the season on September 6, but not before one last celebration! In honor of Territorial Days, join us for a FREE SWIM from 3:00–9:00 PM to close out another great summer at the Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Center will also host a Blood Drive on Thursday, August 27 from 11:00 AM-4:00 PM.

SENIOR CENTER It was a fairly quiet month at the Senior Center, but several informative presentations and classes are coming up in September: September 8: Veterans Issues presented by AARP September 22: Evacuation Model & GENASYS App presented by AARP September 29: AzCANN Cannabis Education presented by the University of Arizona and the Arizona Poison & Drug Information Center
The numbers are in, and we're proud to share that during Fiscal Year 2025–2026, the Chino Valley Senior Center served an incredible 39,002 meals to our community. This included 19,225 congregate (in-house) meals, providing seniors with not only nutritious lunches but also opportunities for friendship and connection, and 19,777 Meals on Wheels, ensuring homebound residents received healthy meals delivered with a caring smile. These numbers reflect our commitment to supporting the health, independence, and well-being of Chino Valley's seniors. Thank you to our dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners who make this vital program possible.

RECREATION The Recreation Department has stayed busy through the end of July and into August, keeping the community entertained while preparing for one of our biggest events of the year. Movies in the Park Our Summer Movies in the Park series continues to be a community favorite, giving families a chance to gather at the park and enjoy a free evening of entertainment together. We are excited to keep providing opportunities for residents to connect and enjoy summer nights right here in Chino Valley.
Territorial Days Preparations Behind the scenes, the Recreation Team has been hard at work preparing for Territorial Days, which is just around the corner! This year's celebration is especially exciting as we recognize 100 years of Route 66 and America's 250th Anniversary. Departments, local businesses, organizations, and community groups interested in participating in the Territorial Days Parade are encouraged to contact the Recreation Department at recreation@chinovalleyaz.gov. We look forward to another great Territorial Days celebration and seeing the community come out to enjoy everything the weekend has to offer!

LIBRARY UPDATE Back to the Library Routine With students back in school, the Library has returned to its regular weekly programming. Families can once again enjoy Storytimes and LEGO Clubs, along with year-round favorites including Chess Club and Read-to-aDog. There is always something happening at the Library, so be sure to stop by or click HERE to see what’s coming up next!

LIBRARY Summer Reading Wraps Up With a Roar The Library wrapped up another successful Summer Reading Program in July with a big finale at Memory Park. This year’s celebration featured Dino Crew Entertainment, which brought lifelike dinosaurs, plenty of energy, and an educational experience families won’t soon forget. Children who participated in the Summer Reading Program received a certificate, an Arizona State Parks Pass, and two books to keep. Participants also earned prizes throughout the summer for logging their weekly reading. Throughout July, the Library also hosted several smaller activities, including a hands-on lesson about solar ovens where kids built their own using recycled materials and made homemade s’mores. Local organizations also joined the fun for special Storytimes, including Chino Valley Police Department and AYSO Chino Valley.
Students Compete in Annual Chess Tournament The Library’s Chess Club held its 4th Annual Student Chess Tournament in July, giving young players the opportunity to put their skills to the test against others in their age groups. The Chess Club is led by Utilities Senior Maintenance Technician Roger Strader, who has volunteered his Monday afternoons with the program for the past four years. Students competed for first, second, and third place in each category. Congratulations to everyone who participated, including the children of IT Support Technician Matt Widner, with one bringing home a silver medal!
