PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members We are pleased to announce that CSC hosted the 33rd Junior Inter Club (JIC) Swimming Championship on 5 November 2017. CSC was the organising club for the JIC Swimming Championship in 2008, and we are proud to be the organiser again after nine years. This year’s event was held under the auspices of nine local swimming clubs with the objective to provide additional racing opportunities for competitive swimmers between 8 to 12 years old, and to support Singapore in promoting swimming and to identify talent. As reported in the last issue of Freestyle, our badminton hall was closed from 2 October 2017 to 30 October 2017 for upgrading works. I am glad to inform members that the upgrading project is completed, and the badminton hall was reopened on 30 October. We thank members for their patience and kind understanding during the period of closure. We are confident that the newly changed competition grade playing mats will serve our needs. The Christmas celebration is a much anticipated event on the Club’s calendar. This year’s theme is “Christmas is Giving”. As we rejoice in the festivities, let’s not forget the less fortunate in our community. I would like to appeal to all members and staff for their support and contributions towards the Charity Bazaar which will be held in conjunction with the Christmas celebration. All net proceeds will go towards the President’s Challenge 2017. Members can look forward to pop up stalls and performances at the Arrival Pavilion to get everyone into the festive mood, and more details will be released closer to the event date. I would like to thank our members for their active participation in our events this year. On behalf of the management and administrative staff of the club, I wish all members and their families a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Shalom and God Bless

CSC - SIA GROUP SPORTS CLUB ANNUAL BILATERAL GAMES
Management Committee and Sports & Games Committee from CSC and SIA Group Sports Club
The 20th Annual Bilateral Games with SIA Group Sports Club was hosted by our Club on 16 August at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort for the Golf game and on 20 August for the rest of the games. Our golfers won the first point with a top 20. Badminton, Billiards & Snooker, Bowling, Squash, Table Tennis and Tennis were played over the weekend which CSC athletes excelled at and won the Trophy. Dinner was held at The Grand Patros along with a design photo montage and cake cutting ceremony, and participants reminisced about the camaraderie built over the bilateral games.

AMENDMENT TO BYE-LAWS JACKPOT ROOM Please be informed that with effect from 1 November 2017, the Bye-laws will be amended as follows: GENERAL
1. Only members shall be permitted to enter and use the Jackpot Room. Upon entry, a member shall record his name, membership number and time of entry. Any member who refuses to do so shall not be permitted to enter the Jackpot Room. 5. Press and release the button gently. No thumping, banging, shaking and violently hitting on the machine is allowed. 8. All jackpots are paid in accordance with the credit amount shown on the glass of the Jackpot Machine. Any excess or freak payment shall belong to the Club. The player is entitled only to what is shown on the machine. 11. Only Singapore notes shall be used. OPERATING HOURS
23. The operating hours of the Jackpot Room shall be: Monday to Sunday inclusive of Public Holiday and Eve of Public Holiday: 10.00am to 11.00pm. The following clauses will be deleted: 7.
No jackpot or claims will be entertained if the handle of a machine is found “free” or the “Coin Accepted” light is on.

ABSENT MEMBERSHIP The following Bye-laws have been amended with effect from 1 September 2017: 2. Any application is for a minimum of 6 months and to a maximum of 3 years and thereafter may be renewed for such a period as the Management Committee may decide. An application for renewal of Absent Membership is required to be submitted before lapse of Absent Membership. 4. Any member intending to apply to be an Absent Member must provide satisfactory documentary proofs such as overseas employment/studies and/or visa for the period of absence.
REGISTRATION FEES The following Bye-laws have been amended with effect from 1 August 2017: 6. Social Membership fee unless otherwise determined by the Management Committee shall be $85.60 and valid for 12 months.
FLEX GYM RULES Members are reminded that any children age below 12 are prohibited to enter the Flex Gym. Only Club players trained under supervision by coaches are allowed. Proper sports attire and shoes have to be worn while working out at the Flex Gym. The Instructor shall have the authority to reject any member who flouts these Bye-laws. A report shall be made to the Management for further action.

RE-OPENING OF BADMINTON COURTS The upgrading of badminton courts has been completed and the courts are open for booking starting from 30 October 2017.

SWIM CSC SEPTEMBER STROKE CLINIC BY IAN TURNER A total of 24 swimmers participated in the Stroke Clinic by Ian Turner from 6 – 8 September 2017. The young swimmers learned about correct swim technique and the drills on starts, turns and finishes of the different strokes. Ian Turner also shared his insight on Age Group Performance Swimming during a sharing session with parents on 8 September 2017.
23RD SSC OPEN INVITATIONAL MIDGET MEET 35 swimmers represented CSC in the 23rd SSC Open Invitational Midget Meet which was held at Singapore Swimming Club on 9 and 10 September 2017. CSC was crowned the 2nd runner-up in the overall championship category, based on the total medal tally of 4 Gold, 13 Silver and 7 Bronze.

GOLF PATTAYA, THAILAND GOLF TOUR From 29 August to 1 September, 35 enthusiastic golfers went on a golf tour to Pattaya, Thailand. The first destination was the Laem Chabang International Country Club, followed by a second game at Siam Country Club, Plantation Course. The final showdown was at Summit Windmill Golf Club before heading home.

Seven seasoned tennis players were engaged in a series of matches on 12 and 13 August. Alex Ho was crowned the champion and Amine Delage was the runner-up. Thank you to all the players for your enthusiasm and passion demonstrated during the matches.
WTA-SCC INTERCLUB MIXED DOUBLES INVITATIONAL CSC was honoured to be part of the prestigious inaugural WTA-SCC Interclub Mixed Doubles Invitational. The competition was held in conjunction with WTA Finals Singapore 2017. Out of 4 competitive teams, CSC team clinched the third position. The players built good rapport during the matches. We would like to thank SCC for hosting and we look forward to the next invitational.

SQUASH CSC-JAPAN NATIONAL SELECTION SQUASH FRIENDLY GAMES 2017 CSC Squash Team and the Japan National Team engaged in the yearly friendly match on 25 August 2017. After 20 matches, CSC Squash Team emerged victorious with 14 wins. CSC hopes to see everyone back in action next year and continue the 30 years of friendship forged through the love and passion for Squash.

BOWLING 18TH YOUTH INTER-CLUB BOWLING MIXED LEAGUE 2017 The annual Youth Inter-Club Bowling Mixed League held at Warren Golf & Country Club on 26 August 2017 was full of excitement. During the Masters Event, our youth bowlers displayed a high level of synergy. We would like to congratulate Sabrina Chia and Jonah Goh for getting into top 3 with the highest total pinfalls and high game for each division (Boys & Girls).

BLACK FOREST CAKE (HANDS-ON) – 13 AUGUST The classic Black Forest Cake needs no introduction. Under the guidance of Chef Nan Ong, members learnt to make the sponge batter, crème patisserie and whipped cream from scratch, then assemble and decorate their own Black Forest Cake with cherries and chocolate flakes. Everyone went home happy with their own 6-inch cake.
HEALTHY SHEET PAN (DEMO CLASS) – 15 AUGUST The Healthy Sheet Pan demo class garnered very good response from members as it catered to busy mothers looking for fuss-free and convenient meals to prepare. Chef Shih Erh demonstrated Asian Satay with Zucchini, Italian Pasta with Baked Fish, Mediterranean Prawns with Capsicums and Green Curry Fish with Eggplant and Potatoes, using the oven to bake the dishes. Members and guests gave rave reviews after sampling the healthy dishes.
FLAVOURS OF VIETNAM (DEMO CLASS) – 23 SEPTEMBER It was an afternoon of Vietnamese flavours as members were introduced to the art of cooking Pho Bo (Vietnamese Beef Noodles), Goi Cuon (Vietnamese Summer Rolls) and Goi Buoi (Vietnamese Pomelo Salad). Chef Shih Erh shared valuable tips and explained the steps in detail. Members tried their hands at wrapping the summer rolls, and the demonstration ended with a sampling session enjoyed by all participants. 16

DURIAN FEST PARTY – 19 AUGUST The much anticipated Durian Fest Party was held at the alfresco dining area outside of 3Bars. Members and their guests had a great time feasting on “Mao Shan Wang” and “Hong Xia” while interacting with one another. There was also tropical fruits such as rambutans, mangosteen and coconut water for all to enjoy. Everyone enjoyed the party and look forward to the next one in 2018.
SAFARI DANCE PARTY – 16 SEPTEMBER On 16 September, avid dancers were “set free” into “Safari World” to flaunt their passionate and swift moves. When “Small Apple” by the Chopstick Brothers was played, dancers conquered the dance floor and moved energetically to the music; releasing the true wildness in them. During the game segment, each table was given different materials like coloured paper, cloth, poncho, newspapers, magazines, wrapping paper and balloons to creatively transform the male dancers into Tarzans. Their determination to win the title was evident and even the animal print tablecloths and decorations on the pillars were used in the Tarzans’ outfits. After the game, the 2 best dressed dancers were invited to strut the catwalk and the party continued with more powerful dance moves.
