A Welcome Return As the leaves begin to fall on the ground at campuses around the country, I am reminded just how grateful I am for our incredible associates who have been hard at work preparing our dining locations for a safe return to campus. After ending our spring term earlier than expected due to COVID-19, I am pleased to once again see our team members and guests return to campus and welcome new students and partners to the Chartwells dining family. Since we parted in March, the Chartwells team has been working overtime to create new safety

Our Path to Open and soonto-be released Path Forward plans implement new procedures, systems, processes and technologies – all to facilitate the healthiest environments while continuing to provide variety and value to our dining program. We have pulled together a very talented team to continue assessing new information, tools and resources to ensure that we’re providing the best and safest dining experi-ence possible. And all so we can get back to doing what we love to do best: Serving our guests and local communities.

Balancing Safety with Community When students packed up and headed home early last spring we assembled our talented team of experts and began preparing our vision for what on-campus dining might look like over the following 30-days, 6 months and even the next two years. What resulted was Path to Open - a roadmap for post COVID-19 return to campus prioritizing safety while enriching the student experience. We’d like to thank everyone who joined our live webinar sessions and we look forward to continuing these sessions throughout the semester and welcoming guest speakers and chances to hear from our partners as we begin to look past the fall semester into spring 2021.

Cool Vibe Urban Bytes
Cal Poly SLO’s newest dining complex, Vista Grande, features street food from around the world! On Sept. 3, students sampled flavors from eight venues, including Noodles, Hearth pizzas, Balance Café and Sweet Bar. Everyone wants to hang out at this LEED Gold Certified facility with a two-story living plant wall, wrap-around outdoor patio and fire pits.
The long-anticipated Urban Bytes opened to hungry students at University of Utah. Nestled inside new residential hall Kahlert Village, Urban Bytes has a big-city vibe and features seven G8 stations, including pizza, Latin and Mongolian items. Carrots offers allergy free and a vegetarian/vegan station. “We have captured the essence of the multiple café dining experience through creative menus, great service and food that speaks for itself!” says Chuck Weaver, resident district manager for U of U’s Dining Services. New Retail Rocks! Three new retail locations have rocked UH-V’s University Commons. Busy students can now enjoy the tasty convenience of Chick-fil-A, Market Store and We Proudly Serve Starbucks. These venues are situated next door to the new residential hall and across the street from education and administrative buildings.

“The Feeding 2020” Initiative UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA AT RENO
Bowl Life Brings It UNR students lined up on Sept. 9 to try Bowl Life on opening day. This new dining concept serves handmade sushi burritos, poke bowls, sushi rolls to go and customizable vegan/ vegetarian options. “Bowl Life has been a great opportunity for us to work directly with UNR to develop a brand new space to serve our ever-growing student population,” says Jon Marks, Nevada Dining’s Director of Retail.
In mid-March, Trinity College Dean of Students John Selders, Director of Community Service Joe Barber, Chaplin Allison Read and District Manager Toby Chenette wanted to help feed the hungry and together they created The Feeding 2020 Initiative. With monetary contributions from the Trinity community, Joe Barber organized delivery volunteers to deliver meals to community members in need. Since April, they have been feeding 20 families twice a week.

The Need for Speed Students requested more meals on the go, so U of A transformed its largest dining facility into the Food Hall – one spot with nine awesome options. Delivering topnotch menus and on-trend branding, coeds can enjoy fast savory breakfasts, delicious daily specials, fabulous pastas, flavorful burgers and more. The inviting names of the eateries include Debbie’s Morning Drive, Root for You, Loaf + Pickles, and Talegate.
Caring for the Community McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is no stranger to the devastation of hurricanes and tropical storms. So, when Hurricane Laura recently hit, Chartwells’ resilient associates, known as “The McNeese Mighty 6,” stepped up to clear debris, feed workers and clean up campus dining facilities. They even made dinner for 175 soldiers from the National Guard. Thank you to Jim Graham, Adrienne Jones, Denise Mitchel, Denise Savoy, Nila Baccigalopi and chef Laurence Landon from LSU. Sally the Salad Robot
Since March, robots have been bringing BGSU students their meals. They even delivered Bowling Green fire and police officers donuts as a thank you for their tireless work. Guests have given the delivery service two thumbs up and Food Management awarded it a 2020 Best Concept in the Best Customer Service Concept category.
UH Dining recently introduced the world’s first Sally the Salad robot to the University of Houston campus. Sally allows guests to create their own customized salad with the touch of a button. The salad robot is filled daily with 22 farm fresh ingredients and can craft an eight-component meal in 90 seconds or less. UH Dining is proud to offer innovative options for safe and healthy dining.

DOC Reservations WPI Dining Services launched its new “Dine on Campus” reservations tool. Students, faculty and staff are now using the DOC app and website to make their reservations at all six dining locations.
