Silver Nova is Asia-Pacific Bound Silversea Cruises’ Silver Nova has debuted in Asia-Pacific, cruising Asia, Australia and New Zealand until April 2025. The new ship, the first of two innovative Nova-class vessels, will offer a range of sailings in Australia and New Zealand from November before returning to Asia in February.
Banyan Tree Arrives in Kyoto Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto has opened in the former Imperial capital’s historic Higashiyama Ward, just steps from the iconic UNESCO - listed Kiyomizu - dera Temple. The luxurious new haven by architect Kengo Kuma marries traditional Japanese architecture with modern elegance, with a design persona inspired by the ethereal beauty of Noh theatrical art – in fact, the hotel is the first in the city to boast its own Noh stage.
With a strong culinary focus, highlights include an insight into native ingredients in Melbourne led by chef, entrepreneur and author Nornie Bero ( November 27th, 2024 ; January 7th, 8th ; February 5th, 2025 ); garden foraging and lunch with chef Tom Tilbury at the Adelaide Botanical Gardens (November 29th, 2024; February 8th & 9th, 2025); and a guided wine experience and lunch at Napier’s award-winning familyrun winery Craggy Range (December 17th, 2024; January 19th, 25th & 26th, 2025). The season will also see gastronomic shore excursions in Japan, including a culinary workshop and lunch at a zen retreat and a visit to a farm on Awaji Island for an insight into Japan’s farm-to-table culinary culture. Silver Nova will return to Asia-Pacific in September 2025.
With just 52 sublime guest rooms and suites by designer Yukio Hashimoto, the hotel also features a Banyan Tree Spa and two distinctive dining venues, while guests can experience the centuries - old traditions of Noh theatre, enjoy a private kōdō ceremony at the tranquil Sennyū - ji Temple, or soak in the resort’s traditional onsens.

Cheval Blanc to Open in the Seychelles Cheval Blanc opens its sixth indulgent slice of paradise in Seychelles this December. Wreathing iconic Anse Intendance beach on the main island of Mahé, the Cheval Blanc Seychelles features just 52 villas, 24 of which are perched on the beach and all of which boast a private pool and stunning, uninterrupted Indian Ocean views. Venice Simplon-Orient-Express Arguably the most famous train in the world, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a Belmond train, whisks guests back to the glamour of the 1920s, complete with tuxedos at dinner and champagne-laced lobster brunches in Paris. Always one to innovate, in addition to its lavish staterooms and Pullman compartments, the VSOE recently welcomed L’Observatoire, a private and exclusive sleeper carriage designed by leading artist JR. A key milestone in the history of this legendary train, this new sleeper carriage (which was floated down the lagoon of Venice, as the original Étoile du Nord dining car was 42 years ago) will become the most spacious accommodation on board when it joins the train in 2025.

To mark this anniversary celebration, the Department of Tourism will hold a six-month campaign, culminating on December 17, in honour of Bhutan’s National Day. Bhutan’s positioning as a destination has always been unique, with its strong focus on high-value, low-volume tourism designed to ensure only positive impacts on the Himalayan kingdom’s rich culture. The country’s Sustainable Development Fee, introduced to all visitors in 2004, ensures that visitors to the nation appreciate and contribute to the preservation of Bhutan’s pristine landscapes and ancient traditions while also ensuring the people of the Kingdom benefit from international visitors.

I’m in Paris right now as my new project with chef Jesus Duron, DUÉ, is in residency for three weeks. I’m technically working, but it’s an incredible experience. Departing the garish but irresistible attractions of Abu Dhabi and Dubai brought us to the charms of Muscat, the capital of Oman, where tourism is a recent but fast-growing industry. Boasting stunning scenery and enchanting culture with an ultra-friendly and sparse population, Oman is arguably the most attractive Middle East location for vacationers in search of variety. Crossing over to India, we landed in Mumbai to join a city tour taking in the Gate of India, a Krishna Temple, a couple of museums and the amazing Dhobi Ghat, an open-air laundry with more than 700 hand-washing stations. Moving down the coast to Goa took us to churches, a market and a visit to a traditional residence for tea and snacks. On a tour of Mangaluru, we encountered another market and temple whereas our stay in Kochi featured a small boat cruise on inland backwaters to a village specialising in traditional crafts such as ropemaking and rolling bidis – cigarettes wrapped in dried leaves.
Leaving India behind, we arrived in Male in the Maldives, affording the opportunity to visit one of the many over-water resorts that are characteristic of the country, as well as strolling around the town’s compact lanes and seafront. In the Seychelles, we enjoyed a taxi ride around scenic Praslin Island, visiting palmfringed beaches and the rugged, jungle-covered interior, which encompasses Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve and the trees of the legendary Coco de Mer, the world’s largest seed. The next stop was Africa, specifically Mombasa in Kenya. A walk around town, taking in Fort Jesus followed by a local tuk-tuk ride into the maze-like old town market, where we shopped for handicrafts and enjoyed a serendipitous encounter with a musical event on the riverside. Zanzibar, Tanzania and in particular, Stonetown, epitomises the fusion of Arabic and African history and culture, with its narrow streets, roof-top restaurants and slave market. Navigating the Mozambique Channel between Madagascar and Mozambique took us to the surprising island of Mayotte, which was once part of the Comoros but elected to remain French following independence. It is now the outermost region of the European Union. Hiring a taxi to tour the island took us to where wild lemurs occasionally come down from the trees.
