CHARLOTTE COUNTRY CLUB

FALL & HOLIDAYS 2025

A LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members,

We are approaching my favorite time of year at the Club – the holiday season! Between the months of October and December, the Club grounds are filled with festivity: children running in the front circle dressed up for Halloween, members and their family’s enjoying turkey and pumpkin pie for our Thanksgiving Brunch, and tiny tots eagerly awaiting their turn to meet Santa.

Did you know we host nearly 100 events in the month of December alone? Some rooms in the Clubhouse are even transformed three times a day for breakfast, lunch, and evening receptions! It’s a busy time of year and we are all thankful that you chose to spend your holiday celebrations at the Club. A complete list of holiday events can be found on page 10 and we hope to see you during this exciting season!

Since the previous issue of The 1910, much has changed behind the Clubhouse. If you have visited the Club recently, you may have noticed two things: the practice facility is simply breathtaking, and the course has turned into a true construction site. I wanted to thank the membership for their patience and enthusiasm as we embark on this project. The kind and encouraging words we have received are greatly appreciated by our staff who are working overtime to make sure the final product surpasses expectations. If you have not already done so, I highly recommend following the Club’s Instagram account (@charlottecountryclub) to view updated photos of construction taking place on the course. Information on the Restoration can also be found on the Club’s website under the Golf tab.

Whether you’re out hitting balls on the newly restored Practice Facility, here for a youth event, or just enjoying an evening out, I look forward to seeing you in the months ahead!

Respectfully,

SIP AND SHARE WITH GM PRISCILLA EICH

Once a year, teammates were invited to enjoy coffee and breakfast with GM/COO Priscilla Eich. During this event, team members had the opportunity to connect, ask questions, and learn more about Priscilla’s professional journey, work mentality, and vision of the Club.

This was a great opportunity for our team to get to know Priscilla on a more personal level. Team events like this one help strengthen the employee culture and serves as a reminder that great leadership starts with openness and authenticity.

MINDS IN MOTION

PASTA MAKING

The CCC team member educational series, Minds in Motion, recently featured a pasta making workshop with the culinary team! Executive Chef Laurent and Executive Sous Chefs Morgan and Sean guided team members through the art of making pasta from scratch. From rolling dough to shaping noodles, the group also learned how to prepare three delicious pasta sauces to pair with their creations.

INTERN BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE & CELEBRATION

Each summer, the Clubhouse interns are tasked with throwing a “Back to School" supplies drive and celebration. This year’s supply drive supported Classroom Central and the CCC team donated notebooks, crayons, markers, pencils, folders, and more to help local schools. The event concluded with a party that included a “Build that Clubhouse” competition where team members had to build the clubhouse using just dry spaghetti noodles and marshmallows.

THE GRAND TASTING looking forward

The event planning team is excited to bring back the Grand Tasting event this upcoming February. For its inaugural year, the event was created to be a “wine around the world” experience. This year we are excited to re-imagine the Grand Tasting with different themed rooms for a unique and memorable experience. This event will feature sparkling wines, crispy whites and roses in one space; light bodied reds and full-bodied whites in another space; and big reds and dessert wines in the final room. The Grand Tasting experience this year will be unique and separate from last year’s tasting. Members can still expect wines from all different regions around the world, available at exclusive prices. Chef Laurent will once again create a specially curated menu that will be perfectly paired with each wine. We are looking forward to another amazing Grand Tasting this year and hope to see you there!

COLORFUL CHRISTMAS

While traditional red, green, and gold will always hold a special place in holiday decorating, adding pops of color is a simple way to refresh and introduce new energy to your space! Whether you're aiming for a subtle new look or just want to break out of the sameold routine, filling your space with bold, playful hues can make the holiday season feel even more magical.

Make your season bright in more ways than one! Start with small changes. Swap a few ornaments for ones in vibrant colors like teal, pink, or metallics. You can even take it a step further by adding festive throw pillows or blankets in rich jewel tones or soft pastels to liven up your space. Even your holiday table can get a fun update with colorful napkins, candles, or centerpieces! Mixing color in your garlands or using string lights can add personality and cheer, especially on mantels or railings.

Just remember, a little goes a long way! Adding color is an easy way to keep your decorating fresh and fun without losing that festive holiday spirit. It’s a perfect way to express your unique style and decorating with intention adds heart to your home!

THANKSGIVING WINE PAIRINGS

Thanksgiving is a time for gathering, gratitude, and of course, an incredible feast. With such a wide variety of flavors on the table, everyone is bound to have their own favorite, or highlight, of the meal. To some, the best compliment of the meal is a perfectly paired wine. Whether turkey is the focus of your table or you prefer ham, our newly certified Level-1 Sommelier Nate Lamb has the perfect pairings for the holiday. All these wines are also available for purchase at the Club.

Turkey as the Main

Try an Oregon or French Pinot Noir. Light-bodied and earthy with bright red fruit, these wines won’t overpower the delicate turkey.

From the Cellar: 2022 Domaine Gabriel & Paul Jouard Chassagne Montrachet Vielles Vignes

Ham as the Main

Offer a Riesling from Germany or Alsace. The crisp acidity and subtle sweetness will balance the ham’s glaze.

From the Cellar: 2020 Jos. Joh. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett Riesling

Hold the Meat – Double-up on Stuffing

From the Cellar: 2020 Aime Arnoux Gigondas Rouge

Pecan Pie

If the main event on your plate is the stuffing, try pairing with a Southern Rhone Grenache. The spicy, medium bodied wine pairs beautifully with herbs.

Pour a glass of port. This go-to dessert wine has nutty, caramel flavors that meld beautifully. From the Cellar: Trentadue “Chocolate Amore” Port Blend

2025 BARTENDER CONTEST RESULTS ARE IN!

Winner: Karisa’s Palomango Picante

Every summer, teammates at CCC can participate in our summer cocktail competition. This summer, we had 11 bartenders and servers showcase their best recipes for one week each. Over the course of the competition, over 250 cocktail features were crafted!

Each beverage was unique to the bartender that created it. Different spirits, styles, and presentations are what make the competition so exciting! The winner of this year's contest was

Karisa, who joined the team earlier in 2025. She entered with the "Palomango Picante," a spicy and tropical take on a classic paloma. Congrats Karisa!

CCC bartenders are always thinking of creative new ideas behind the bar — cocktail menus around the club always incorporate team recipes!

ELVIRA'S FAMILY BAKLAVA

Elvira, originally from Bosnia, has been a valued member of the CCC team for nearly 17 years. One of her favorite traditions is making Baklava, a beloved Bosnian dessert that holds a special place in her family’s heritage. The recipe she uses has been passed down through generations, and she fondly remembers preparing it alongside her grandmother. Baklava is a staple at holidays, family gatherings, and other meaningful occasions, making it a delicious symbol of connection and celebration.

Ingredients

• 18 oz Phyllo dough

• 3.5 oz chopped walnuts

• 1 cup of sugar

• ¾ cup of water

• 10.5 oz butter, melted

• Lemon slices (optional)

• Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400 Degrees

2. Peel the layers of the Phyllo dough and brush each layer with melted butter

3. On the stove, create a syrup by mixing the water, sugar, and lemon slices (optional) and bring to a boil over med/high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then reduce heat to med/low and boil without stirring for 5 minutes. Remove and let cool while preparing baklava

4. Once the syrup is cooled, begin layering your baklava with three to five layer of Phyllo dough, chopped walnuts, and syrup. Repeat 5 times

5. Top layer should be approximately 10 layers of phyllo dough brushed with butter

6. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes

7. Cut into diamond/triangle shape (this is the traditional way to serve baklava)

KIDS ANYONE CAN COOK

Congratulations to Drew Misiaveg and Sally Scott Farmer for completing three out of the four Kids Anyone Can Cook classes with Chef Laurent!

TIP FROM THE PRO

ANTICIPATION ON THE TENNIS COURT

The game of tennis is so much more than just hitting great forehand, backhands, volleys, overheads, and serves. It is mental combat, a strategic battle, and a physical fight.

What if you had the opportunity to stay one step ahead of your opponent and have the ability to figure out their next move? Anticipation is the ability to predict what will happen next. Although it is not an exact science, here are some tips to help you anticipate your opponents in your upcoming matches:

1. Visual Cues: Watch your opponent, NOT THE BALL. I know this sounds odd, but hear me out. When the ball is on your side of the court, DEFINITELY watch the ball. However, when the ball

Professional

is on your opponent’s side of the court, watch their body position, their racquet angle, their movement to the ball. If they are reaching for the ball, you should be moving forward since they probably won’t get much power. If their racquet face is open (pointing up) during their backswing, they may be preparing to lob. Therefore, you should be ready to backup if you are at the net. These cues could make a big difference!

2. Recognize Patterns: You and your partner are playing well but are down 4 to love in the first set. Before the next point, you approach your partner and mention: “I noticed that every time we serve to their backhands, they block it crosscourt. So let’s try serving to their backhands and let’s poach.” You and your partner then go on to win the match handily! Recognizing weaknesses or patterns can help you identify opportunities to be more in control.

3. Defensive Anticipation: You’ve hit a poor lob during a point. Do you give up or make the effort to figure out where your opponent is going to hit the ball? One thing all high level players have learned is to never give up on any point. If you have the time, put yourself in your opponent’s shoes and think: “Where would I try to hit this winning shot?” Then make your move and do your best to make the next shot. You may surprise yourself and your opponent!

Best of luck this fall in your upcoming matches!

JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS

Thank you to all of you who participated in our Junior Club Championships on August 23! We had 47 junior tennis players and a great group on the Tennis Deck for the cookout to follow. Congratulations to all of the award winners of the day!

TROUBLESHOOTING COURT RESERVE

Have you heard about Court Reserve? This online platform allows members to book tennis and pickleball courts, register for adult programming, and view tennis professional schedules. If you have not yet accessed Court Reserve or need help troubleshooting, please email Sears at sdriscoll@charlottecountryclub.org.

2025 - 2026 INDOOR

SEASON

Our first full Indoor Season is right around the corner, with November 1 being the official beginning of Indoor Block Times. In our abbreviated January - March 2025 Indoor Season, the courts were consistently full, and we picked up on a few things that will help the operations run smoothly and that will help regular maintenance efforts effective.

Whether or not you're participating in a block time, you may want the convenience of booking indoor courts throughout the year. We encourage you to consider the Indoor User Fee option, which allows access from November 1, 2025, to October 31, 2026. The total cost is $600, billed monthly at $50 starting in November 2025.

This is a full year commitment, so members cannot be added or removed once the block season begins. While there has been ongoing work to temperature and humidity controls, the conditions remained comfortable, and there was clearly a demand for indoor play in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Keep this in mind as you decide whether to commit to the User Fee, or to pay for each individual reservation. For non-users, court fees will remain $30/doubles, $40/singles, and $80/single-family. The guest fee will remain $45 per guest.

CARE FOR THE NEW RANGE

The new practice tees look spectacular, and members are eager to hit balls.

To save on grass usage, please keep the following in mind while practicing:

• Straight-lined divot patterns are encouraged

• Hitting drivers on a tee are encouraged over hitting wedges

TIP FROM THE PRO

CONQUER THE BUNKERS

When you are in a bunker, the main goal is to get out as quickly as possible. To do this consistently, players must have a solid understanding of the setup elements as well as the technique needed to execute this shot correctly. The best bunker players in the world make it look easy, mainly because they follow the rules below every time they are in a bunker. The next time you are in the sand, focus on a few of these keys in your setup and your swing, and watch your results improve!

Setup for Success:

1. Wider stance and knee bend for a solid foundation

2. Keep your weight on your front foot

3. Ball positioned just in front of the middle of your stance

4. Open the club face and grip down slightly

Focus on Your Technique:

1. Make a vertical back swing, keeping the club head outside of your hands

2. Hit the sand a few inches before the ball

3. Accelerate! Try and get sand onto the green

4. Keep your weight forward throughout the swing
