Lions 19, Redskins 14. No, that was not a typo. For the first time in nineteen regular season games, the Detroit Lions finally won on Sept. 27. It seemed like an eternity since Ford Field had seen the exhilaration that goes along with a home game victory. And in essence, it had been. The Lions became the first team in NFL history to go 0-16 within a regular season. On their way to catching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whose late 70’s record sported a 26 loss streak, the Lions had accumulated 19 losses in a row. Head Coach Jim Schwartz commented a week before the surprise win that the team was trying to ignore the constant mention of last season’s devastating record. “I look at it more as we’re 0-2,” Schwartz stated in a postpractice interview. He also mentioned that the press’ constant reminding of the team’s past shortcomings was not helping morale one bit. “It’s too much to ask them to try to correct what happened last year, this year. FBI Under Fire After Allegedly Edited Footage of OK Bombing Surfaces

With the FBI handing attorney Jesse Trentadue 20 recordings from security cameras in various locations, he claims that the FBI had enough time to edit something if they saw fit. He also says that, like shady police work, editing is not farfetched. Moreover, Trentadue’s
speculation comes after his brother, Kenneth, a convicted bank robber who police mistook for a bombing accomplice, was beaten to death during police interrogation. Despite Trentadue’s persistence (and potential bias), the FBI claims that they have not modified the tapes in any way. Animal Awareness Tip by Maideline Sanchez Red Fox: Vulpus vulpus Cats and dogs are two different species, but if you put them together they will make up the characteristics of a fox. Red foxes have dog-like ears and even tails, as well as diamondshaped pupils similar to a cat. They have an acute sense of hearing but poor vision. Red foxes can adapt to almost any environment and are noted for their cleverness in rationing their resources. During a time when food is plentiful, Vulpus vulpus will eat at least half their body weight and save the rest in holes underground. This will ensure that they will still have some other sources of food just in case another scavenger comes along to steal a stored meal. The location of red foxes range from Canada to the United States, Europe, and
most of Asia. Red foxes can be as long as 57 inches from head to tail. Relative to a six-foot tall human, foxes reach just above the knee when standing in all fours. Their fur is commonly rusty red with black on the tail, ears, and legs, and white on their inner ears, tip of the tail, and belly. They are normally classified as carnivores when in actuality they are considered omnivores due to their diet. When necessary they may eat crayfish, mollusks, insects, and even earthworms; they may even consume fruits such as apples, blackberries, and plums. Red foxes can be very territorial with their meal unless it is mating time, at which point they will share with the females (“vixens”). The Estrous cycle for a female can span from one to six days,
and ovulation can be spontaneous. From the time of copulation to labor, a male brings food to the female. Afterwards, the male (“dog”) leaves her alone in the den. Byy the time they are two weeks old, they will open their eyes and begin exploration outside. During the fall season, the young foxes will disperse and claim their own territory. Once they reach sexual maturity at the age of ten months, they will live for approximately three years (12 years in captivity). Did You Know? The Delightful Creation of Football
Fall leaves are changing colors and there’s a chill in the air, which can only mean one thing. It’s football season. From homecoming games to watching NFL games all day on Sunday, when you think of fall, you think of Football. You think of offense, defense, first down, fumbles, and touchdowns. But where did the game of football first come from? Who created it? Where was it first played? The game of football can actually be traced back to the English game of rugby, which originated in 1823. It can also be traced back to soccer which was being played as early as the 1820’s. The beginnings of college football actually started at Princeton, where students played with the objective to just advance the ball past the other team, simple rules compared to the current rules today. At Harvard in 1860, the students actually played a football type game on the first Monday of the school year, which later became known as Bloody Monday because of the violence. Around 1865 colleges actually began organizing football games and in 1867, Princeton established some of the basic rules of the game. The first college game was played on November 16, 1867 between Rutgers College and Princeton University. Rutgers won 6 “goals” to 4. Professional football got its start in 1895 and in 1920, the National Football League was formed. Originally, the NFL was limited to ten teams, but by 1934 it was expanded into a thirty team league. The Super Bowl, the most watched professional championship game, was first played in 1967. From the very first college football game played 142 years, to our own Charger football team today, we can see that the game of football has come a long way. The next time we are sitting out in the chilly weather or in our living rooms cheering on our favorite teams, just remember that we can all bond because of the creation of one little word, TOUCHDOWN!

Fire Prevention Week at UNH: Sure to be a Hot Item

Fire Prevention Week has already started, and will be continuing until Oct. 10. This year the University of New Haven’s Fire Science Club has gone above and beyond to ensure that the student body not only has fun while actively learning, but are also given the opportunity to incorporate important fire prevention techniques. Throughout the week members of the Fire and Life Safety Committee will be at
tables around campus providing handouts, information, and answering questions. Wednesday night at six, the Fire Science Club will be demoing the Bull-ex extinguisher system in the quad to give students a chance to feel what it is like to use an extinguisher in case the time ever comes. Thursday will be our big day on campus: at noon there will be a fire prevention carnival that will lead into a live “burn box” scenario. This will show students what it would be like if a fire were to start in their home, dorm, or apartment. If
you are an upperclassman make sure to still come out, there will be something brand new in the burn box scenario: a sectioned box. One section will have a sprinkler head attached to show what a difference sprinklers make in a fire situation, the other will not and will show the hazards if we didn’t use them. Fire prevention week on campus is sure to spark and ignite the interests of all students on campus. So when you think of fun during the week, come down and share it with us: it will be a blaze.

MasterCard Exec Addresses UNH

Lawrence Flanagan, MasterCard marketing executive, addressed the University of New Haven community Sept. 28 in a speech that urged those present to make decisions based on their own convictions. Borrowing a quote from the book Rules of Thumb, Flanagan used the motto “when the going gets tough, the tough relax” to explain the importance of making difficult decisions by “driving fear out of the equation.” Flanagan, a University of New Haven
alum, was selected as the University’s Fall 2009 Bartels Fellow because of his success and prominence in the business arena. After graduating from UNH in 1980, Flanagan worked his way up the corporate ladder of advertising by making decisions based on his beliefs. His good judgment revived MasterCard’s failing brand when he chose the “Priceless” ad to represent the company, despite opposing viewpoints. Although Flanagan encouraged individuals to follow their dreams, he recognized the current bleak job market and compared it to the situation when he graduated college.

“You can’t control what’s going on in the economy,” he said. However, Flanagan was optimistic. He told the audience that the economy “is a prefect storm that is creating opportunities.” Among the opportunities he mentioned were social media, ecommerce, and online searches. Flanagan ended his address by insisting that each person in the audience embrace his or her big ideas. He advised students to have the courage to make their experiences count and to look ahead into the future. “Big ideas will challenge you to think big thoughts,” Flanagan said.

He lies on the greenish-blue fluffy carpet, with his hind legs tucked in tight, the bottom of his paws resting comfortably on the cotton beneath him. His front legs limp in front of his lazy grooved body, one being slightly bent at the wrist. Between his two wiggly front legs sits his statue fixed head, and just below, his dark snout droops the sides of his lips. The silent room around him only
echoes distant creaks. Only certain sounds can be heard at this time, each introduced in intervals. The tics from the glossed wooden clock, the tapping on the living room window from the gentle trees outside, the slight grumble coming from the refrigerator, or even the mysterious squeaking of a door can all be heard before they awake. As each revealing noise passes, his ears remain calm, patient. The wise eyes stationed on his face, face directly forward,

towards the brown faded shut door. Occasionally blinking, the lids of his eyes slowly lower, but as every tic from the clock sounds, his eye lids slowly rise. Quiet, peaceful, and patiently he waits; until his ears sharply sprout to the distant touch of a cottoned covered foot kissing the ground.

I get it: you’re afraid. You’re afraid that we’ll all become a nation of reds. A big ol’ group of violent revolution bloodshedists. A Bolshevik, collectivist, laissez-faire-loving, Karl Marx-praising, “my dad makes the same amount of money as your grandpa’s uncle” liberal communist. But that just isn’t the case. In 1965, during the height of the Vietnam War, propaganda was perhaps one of the most influential elements persuading Americans that we needed to stand our
ground throughout the entire course of the war. Just like the communism debate in the Vietnam era, we are once again having a socialist-based argument within the country: universal healthcare. It won’t be before I’m dead that I will understand why people are against this. According to a new Harvard Medical School study, somebody in the U.S. dies every 12 minutes because they do not carry health insurance. For those who don’t know, I am a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan and there is nothing I enjoy more than watching my team hit the turf and play some pigskin. I go to the games, I wear my jersey, I yell about my division rivals, and I cry when we miss out on the Super Bowl…again. There is nothing that can mess up a Sunday game: not homework, a lack of coverage, or a disappointing turn out. Well…almost

But it’s these fans, the ones that jump on team bandwagons that tend to ruin the sport for others with egotistical jargon and pathetic attempts at being “supportive”. I’m talking about the fans that spew constant bs about their teams. I have been watching the Eagles play for a very long time, and I have learned one very big lesson during the past few years. Sometimes, we have THAT game. Sometimes, my team plays like I’ve never seen them play before and it leads to big touchdowns, big plays, and an even bigger sense of triumph when our record wins increase by one. But sometimes,
most times even, we don’t play that way. We don’t win. We don’t score the big points. Hell, we even make plays that have me screaming from my seat because even I can see they’re bad calls. But a REAL football fan knows how to embrace their team in both scenarios, and how to own up to their mistakes as well as their triumphs. A REAL football fan knows how to support teams that are playing really well to an extent…even if they are divisionary rivals. Essentially what I’m getting at is this: stop ruining my favorite fall pastime. Stop walking around acting too-hot-for-trot when

But it is technically just as socialist as McDonald’s charging everybody the same price for a double cheeseburger. The only difference is if you get a clogged artery from all those burgers, you’ll now be covered.

Or worse, if you do lose and a team you dislike wins, don’t try to write it off as a “bad game” or something along the lines of “you should have lost, you just didn’t”. GET OVER IT. Move on. There are more games on, and even more the week after. Grow up a little bit and stop making excuses. But mostly, above anything else, learn to have some sportsmanship. Real football fans know how to be gracious in the face of losing, regardless of how many losses that may be.

The President of the United States is often called the “Leader of the Free World” but for Barack Obama, preference falls more to this embellished title than his principle duties. His first term thus far has been filled with everything from an apology tour across Europe to his recent rebuke of America as a superpower at the U.N. President Obama, the First Lady, and Oprah also spent much of the last

week campaigning for the 2016 Olympics in Chicago, a campaign that fell quickly to Rio de Janeiro. This effort, which on the surface seems noble, leaves conservatives asking the question the media has avoided: what about America? At the same time that the president had begun operation Olympics our commanders in Afghanistan are in dire need of new troops, an issue the president has yet to address. Back before elections President Obama, railing against the war in Iraq,
called Afghanistan a “war of necessity”. Yet suddenly, with the left in this country perusing the end of that conflict as well as in Iraq, our commanderin-chief is getting a severe case of weak knee syndrome. Even worse, the same man who criticized President Bush for his wartime leadership has only spoken to the Afghan General once in a staggering 70 days. What has he been doing these last three months that prevented him from speaking to the generals? Cleary destroying capitalism
and economic liberty are immensely time consuming. It has become abundantly clear that Obama only cares about one thing: himself. Everything this man has done has been just another attempt to enrich his already massive ego. The speech at the UN was far more about himself as this world’s savior than about the interest of the people of the United States. Obama sees himself as a white knight of global politics and has no problem speaking ill of his country
and his countrymen to further his reputation amongst the international community. The Olympics were just another way for Obama to demonstrate his clout as the “president of the world”. Yet Obama’s latest attempt leaves one lingering question. What happened to the “war of necessity”? All throughout campaigning, Obama ridiculed the Bush administration for blowing it in Afghanistan. Obama was such a hawk on Afghanistan that even conserva-
tives had to give him credit. Yet why the sudden reversal, why is this war suddenly so unimportant that Obama can leave his generals stranded in the dessert? For those of you who might say these bans only occur in certain regions, such as the Bible Belt of the Midwest, think again- visit the American Library Association’s website at www.ala.org and you will be directed to a map that shows where bans or challenges (where someone requests a book be taken off a shelf or restricted) have occurred. A large majority of them occur along the East Coast, as well as the upper Midwest, South, and parts of the West Coast. And t h a t ’s not even a complete list: only those that have been documented. So why and how is a book challenged or banned? According to the ALA website, a well-meaning person may challenge a book in order to protect others, usu-
ally children, from its ideas and images. The subject material may be everyday life situations for many of us; however some may find it too controversial or subversive for consumption. There are formal processes that either a school or library may have in order to make this possible. Among
liam Golding. According to the challengers, the books contain crude racial slurs, sexual content, violent images, and swear words among other material “not suitable” for reading. And the list does not stop here: Google the words “banned books list” and
graphic and disturbing, it does not mean they are not good literature. As a writer myself, I know that sometimes one has to make a decision on whether or not to include a word, or a scene, in a story to make it credible. For instance, if Holden Caulfield had his potty mouth turned into cheesy phrases such as “Gosh darn” and “for Pete’s sake,” Salinger would have had a much harder time conveying a message of angst and rebellion. Also, many of the people who have challenged or pushed for books to be banned have likely never even read the book in its entirety. Certain branches of the NAACP have called for Huckleberry Finn to be banned because of its use of the N-word, but do they realize that Twain’s objective was to preach against slavery? In fact, the good slave Jim was the most compassionate character in the book, whereas Huck’s father was the least.
All of that aside, the purpose of this week from September to October is to celebrate the freedom to read what we choose to, and to exercise our right to free speech. Although people have the choice of what to read and what to avoid, they should not be allowed to make that choice for anyone else. Everyone should be allowed to be exposed to different situations and cultures, and books are a wonderful medium to be able to do that. No one should be able to take that away. So go out and celebrate your freedom to make that choice. While you’re at it, check out the ALA website for a list of banned books and links, and read one. It might change the way you think. Okay, quick poll! Raise your hand if you know what the last week of September is. Anyone? Well, allow me to inform you. The week of Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 was Banned Books Week, an annual celebration of people’s freedom to read and the significance of our First Amendment right to free speech. Big deal, you think, I don’t read anyway. Right? Wrong. According to the book Media and Culture, the book remains the oldest (and most effective) mass medium, whether you read often or never pick up a book. Relatively easy to mass produce and accessible to everyone regardless of your race, gender, or social class, everyone has the chance to be exposed to the ideas of countless writers around the world. Yet books continue to be challenged and banned in schools and elsewhere in the United States

Tonight Show Hit Hurts Role-Playing with the Host Titans

Titian Quest is an action RPG made by Iron Lore Entertainment and released by THQ. It can be considered the “spiritual brother” to Diablo 2. The story is set in ancient Greece where heroes such as Hercules and Achilles battle with medusas and hydras. The main character is but a mere man off to save your home from destruction and ruin from such monsters and to bring glory to your name. The game play is point and click; where your character runs, attacks, and uses things in the world. It’s set up with hotkeys for your spells and abilities as well as items and potions from the keyboard. The lev-

The monsters wouldn’t look at the pet even if it was the only thing attacking it. It seems that the only class to go is a melee one; they had the most powerful weapons and most health to survive the beating that the character always took. The fighting, however, were masterfully done. The graphics in Titian Quest are amazing, with everything 3D rendered. An excellent use of shading allows for the sun and shadows to bring the world to life as well as the game’s perfected physics. What I was most impressed with was when walking through a farmer’s

However nothing changes from the story if you have a different person and the game is very linear about where you have to go. As an action RPG and a basic mimic to Diablo 2 the game doesn’t stand out that much other than its graphics and selection of classes. PULP: So where are you all from originally? The Shells: (Melanie) Well I am originally from Buffalo, New York. (Jessie) I’m Jessie, and I’m from Nashville Tennessee. (Carrie) Well, I’m from a lot of different places but I’ll say that I’m from Colorado. PULP: And what was it that brought all of you to where you are now? The Shells (Carrie): Well, I originally came out here to go to school for musical theatre school: acting, dancing, and singing, and I think the other girls are pretty much the same story. (Melanie): I went to school upstate and then moved to New York for auditions for Broadway. (Jessie): I went to school at Rutgers and I moved into the city to pursue music and I saw an ad on craigslist that someone was looking for a third member for a female trio. At the time I was singing in a ca-

The Shells (Jessie): Melanie would definitely say the east side; I used to live in New York, and would have to agree with her that it’s the best neighborhood in Manhattan. I live on the Upper East Side, which isn’t bad, and Carrie lives in Astoria. We play gigs in a lot of different places and have spent a lot of time throughout the city. The world is our stage.
PULP: How does your show change from the studio to on stage? The Shells: As far as our show we have a full band: drums, bass, keys, violin, and two guitars. The Shells (Melanie): “Wrong From the Start” is my favorite personally because it was the first song that we wrote and arranged together and the first song that we were like, “holy crap we can do this with just us”. We could all relate to it and understand it even if it was someone else’s story. (Carrie): I would say as far as covers we have come a long way, we used to have two and now we have like eighty. We're all big fans of classic rock, we like to do that classic rootsy type of feel because that’s who we are. The game headed off with starting quarterback Matt Stafford throwing a 21 yard touchdown pass to Bryant Johnson in the 1st quarter. Jason Hansen kicked for the extra point and completed two field goals in the next quarter to bring the score to 13-0 at the half. Spirits were high as the Lions stepped on the field after halftime, but were short lived as Redskins’ Santana Moss caught a 57 yard pass for a touchdown in the 3rd. The 4th quarter however, found Maurice Morris with a 2 yard run for a touchdown bringing the score to 19-7. This was shortly followed by a Redskins touchdown. The score stood at 19-14. As the min-
utes boiled down, Detroit fans were on the tips of their feet. Even Stafford, one of this NFL season’s most promising rookies, couldn’t bear the anticipation. “I figured I’d just let the crowd noise tell me what happened,” he’d said after the game. Stafford went on to mention that the silence of the stadium in those final seconds was too much, so he looked up to see the tackle and the time run out on the scoreboard. Cheering could be heard throughout Detroit. But despite the acknowledgement of the first win in 19 games, head coach Schwartz took the stand at a post-game press conference like any other coach would: he delved into where the team should have improved. “Our expectations need to be higher. We shouldn’t be content with just a win”. But
the rest of Detroit sure was. With the struggling auto industries, the plummeting housing market, and the high levels of unemployment, the Lions’ home city has been looking for a boost in morale. And after the triumph over the Redskins, they’ve definitely found it. Although the Lions went on to lose on Oct. 4, the morale of the team and its fans has not fallen. Most Detroit fans were thrilled to experience the first win and, while more winning would be preferable, did not lose their spirit or falter under pressure. Will the redemption continue for the Lions? Make sure to tune into their game on Oct. 11 to see them play the Pittsburgh Steelers at home. With their first win in 19 games under their belt, no one will know quite what to expect on Sunday.

The University of New Haven Football faced off against their cross town rivals, the Southern Connecticut State Owls on Friday Oct. 2. The Chargers were looking to build on their exciting 4th quarter comeback win during homecoming on Sept. 26. The Owls showed their quick strike ability however, scoring a touchdown in the games first four minutes. Regardless, New Haven answered with a touchdown of their own on their first offensive possession of the game. The drive was capped off with a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Osiecki to tight end Kameel Lashley. The Owls again struck back quickly, with a 1 play touchdown drive and regained the lead 14-7. The University of New Haven stalled
on their next drive and were forced to punt the ball back to the Owl offense. Southern Connecticut was poised for another touchdown drive until Chargers safety Mike Gomes intercepted a pass ending the threat. The University of New Haven Chargers offense answered the call with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Osiecki to wide receiver Sharieff Hall. New Haven missed the extra point attempt and failed to pull even, leaving the score at 14-13 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was all Owls as they added two touchdowns to their lead, making the score 2813 at the half. The second half showed a glimmer of hope when Chargers linebacker Akaki Ramishavili recovered a Southern Connecticut fumble on the Owl 11 yard line. New Haven
added a touchdown with a 1-yard run from running back Victor Jones. The Chargers two point conversion attempt was denied and the score was 2819. The score mimicked other games where the Chargers were able to overcome deficits, but this game was not the case. From there on out the Owls began to run away with the game putting up three touchdowns, a field goal, and a safety. New Haven had a scoring drive of their own in the games closing seconds, when Osiecki hooked up with wide receiver Jason Thompson from 28 yards out. The final score was 54-26 Southern Connecticut. The Chargers will look to even their record to 3-3 on Sat. Oct. 10 when they are set to host American International College at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium.

Debate Brews on Whether Famed Director Should Be Extradited

Roman Polanski, famous filmmaker and French citizen, has been on the run for 31 years from an American-issued warrant for drugging, raping, and sodomizing a 13-yearold girl. After all his efforts to escape jail failed, he was finally arrested in Switzerland and is now pending extradition to the United States. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office actually did their job and successfully captured the fugitive. So why are people around the globe coming to his defense and demanding the U.S. government to just ignore his heinous crimes? The accused took every shot at avoiding jail time. He pleaded guilty to avoid a lengthy trial and a maximum sentence, and instead took a plea bargain from Laurence Rittenband, the judge who handled the case. When he realized that Rittenband might renege on the deal, he jumped bail by fleeing the country and was a fugitive until his arrest on Sept. 26 at a Zurich airport. Despite a few attempts,
Polanski successfully evaded American and foreign authorities. Only in the past few years, when his lawyers pushed for the case to be moved out of Los Angeles due to Rittenband’s bias, did authorities allegedly resume their efforts. After his arrest, his lawyers tried again, this time seeking a pardon from Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California, who took a stand and immediately denied their requests. But he is among the few celebrities that have taken a stand with American law, as professionals in the entertainment industry and French leaders alike spoke in protest to Polanski’s conviction. According to former French Culture Minister Jack Long called his pending extradition a “judicial lynching.” The current French culture minister, Frederic Mitterrand, agreed with Long, describing Polanski’s arrest as “absolutely horrifying.” A petition that demands Polanski’s release has been signed by at least 100 professions in the entertainment industry. However, the unsettling piece of this case is not that people are protesting it, but

based on evidence of a fault in the legal system or technicalities in court, both of which are realistic arguments due to the controversies surrounding his conviction. For example, Marina Zenovich’s documentary, Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, accuses the L.A. courts of judicial and prosecutorial misconduct and provides testimony, albeit refuted testimony, that could be considered during the appeals process. Even Ronald Sokol,
mate reasons for the imprisonment in the U.S., which he states are to deter, punish, and rehabilitate criminals, do not apply to Polanski. Sokol also points out that this was the first request to expedite Polanski despite mounting evidence that they had the chance previously, making the prosecutor’s actions appear arbitrary and therefore allowing the public to assume that due process of law was not respected in this case. This argument, Sokol
explains, is supported in the Constitution, which states that government action should not be arbitrary. These are valid details that in my opinion should be considered and could be respected- if they were the arguments being acknowledged by the public. Instead, the majority of his sympathizers claim that too much time has lapsed for punishment to be arranged! Some even mistakenly quote the statute of limitations in their argument; this law mandates that criminals cannot be charged after a certain period of time has elapsed. This is clearly not Polanski’s case, in which he has already been convicted, nevermind charged! This majority opinion may also be the very reason why opposition to his release is so strong; because the main arguments for his release are not even valid, while the good reasons for his release evade exposure. Those who believe that Polanski’s arrest was purely political are also mistaken; political arrests are based on those that are “politically inconvenient” and are illegal in the U.S., whereas Polanski’s arrest was
based on a previous conviction and was in no way a means to eliminate any inconvenience to political figures. This was pointed out in an online response to Chris Rock’s comments on the case during an interview on Jay Leno’s show Thursday night. However, those of the entertainment community who are against his arrest might only seem numerous due to lack of opposition; many celebrities may be discouraged to disagree, a response to the threat of lost earnings. Some are convinced by the victim herself, who has forgiven him and asks for his exoneration. A few people are speaking out, and I trust that the American judicial system will extradite him and the people of America will make the right choice. The fact stands that Roman Polanski pleaded guilty in 1978 to having sex with a minor. As long as that action is considered a felony, the actual offense should be treated like one. There can be no exceptions to this law or our government will have failed us. But if this is not what the citizens want, what should be done?

The competition between Woody and Buzz sends them on a journey to the outside world, where they are forced to overcome their personal insecurities and differences between them. Toy Story 2’s plot features Woody as he realizes that Andy is growing older and will eventually lose the desire to play with him. Woody is faced with two choices: stay with Andy and his other toy friends or travel to Japan to be featured in a children’s museum with other toys, where he will be loved and adored by children eternally. Fourteen years after its original release, Toy Story has not lost its magic. The plot is still relevant to young viewers and can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The movie’s humor, which is appealing to all ages, aids the advancement of the plot as the audience adventures towards a pleasing conclusion. Toy Story 2 is equally as enjoy-
able. The audience is able to view a toy store when it “comes to life” as Tour Guide Barbie leaves a pool party to provide the viewer with a tour of the store. At the end of the film, a gag reel plays so the audience can laugh with the characters as they make obviously staged blunders. The 3D effects are not as impressive as expected. With the exception of a few scenes, the term 3D could easily be replaced with HD. The graphics of both films are better than those found in a majority of other animated films not because of the 3D effects, but because of the original animators’ skills. A warning to audiences with young children: be weary of the length of the double feature. Despite the intermission of humorous on-screen trivia questions, the showing is about three hours long. Children become restless and babies will cry, so please be sure to do the audience a favor: when the baby cries, leave the theater until he or she calms down. Telling the child to “shut up” in front of the entire theater does not solve the problem – it just makes the rest of the theater like you less.

When Toy Story first showed in theaters in 1995, it was a critically acclaimed film. Both adults and children thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and new animation style generated by Pixar. The film did not sacrifice plot for impressive animation, but mastered both aspects of the film making Toy Story successful and truly one of Disney/ Pixar’s best pictures. Toy Story 2, released in 1999, was just as successful as Pixar’s 1995 original masterpiece. Disney/Pixar added new characters to the Toy Story family including Jessie (Joan Cusack), a female cowgirl counterpart to Woody (Tom Hanks), winning the hearts of young girls across the country. To promote the June 18, 2010 release of Toy Story 3, Disney/Pixar has released double feature in theaters for only two weeks. For the price of one film, audiences can watch both films in 3D with a ten minute intermission between each film. After its first weekend in theaters, the film placed third on movies charts with $12,500,000 in tickets
