UNH students Jason Bernstein, Emily Gorecki, Mike Forgette, and Jessica Emerson are all hoping for an outstanding experience during their debut as soapbox racers next week in Providence, R.I.
“Win or lose, we are all in it for a great time, and great friends!” exclaims Emerson. Rider Jason and copilot Jessica will be dressed as spoons, while the two pushers, Emily and Mike, will be dressed as a fork and a knife (respectively). Although, yes, their name is based on the “romantic art” of spooning, the team will not be racing for romances but, rather, for fun. I’d like to congratulate everyone who showcased their research endeavors last Friday, Sept. 28. A lot of hard work goes into research and thank you to all those who came out to support it. People need to realize that research is what makes a university excellent. It’s not easy work and at times it’s very frustrating, so research days like last Friday are greatly appreciated.
So apparently at brunch, if someone takes one of the plastic takeout trays, they have to pay with their dining dollars rather than their meal plan. Whose stupid idea was that!? Who cares if someone takes their food on a plate or in a plastic container—that doesn’t change whether or not it’s a meal! And yet everyone is so confused as to why all the plates keep getting stolen…
It’s finally fall! In fact, it’s finally October! No doubt, October is the most awesome month of the whole year. The cool weather helps to finally keep our dorms at a bearable temperature. Halloween is just plain amazing. And the cool colors of the trees just make it amazing. I hope you are all as excited as I am!
There should be some sort of backup system for people who are cardless on the weekend. If your UNH ID happens to break or something on the weekend, campus card doesn’t open up until Monday, leaving the students without food and such. I’ve seen this happen to a couple people and it’s not a fun situation. Though if you’re the idiot that lost your card—tough luck I guess.

Senior Citizens Want Doughnuts News

MAHOPAC, N.Y.— Several senior citizens were picketing outside a senior center Thursday, Sept. 20 in response to a doughnut ban. This demonstration was the result of a decision to not let senior citizens in
Putnam County have free doughnuts, pies and bread donated to the senior centers. The demonstrators sported sandwich boards bearing slogans like “Give Us Our Just Desserts” and “We Want our Cake and Eat It Too!!” Officials with the senior centers
were concerned that they were setting a bad example by giving the doughnuts and other sweets to the senior citizens. The senior citizens involved insist that the demonstrations are not because there are no more doughnuts, but because they had no choice in the
matter. Joe Hajkowski, 75, told reporters that “lack of respect is what it’s all about.” Hajkowski also said that he felt that the officials were implying that the senior citizens were too senile to make the choice to stop eating the treats
The charge meant the prosecution did not have to prove premeditation or intent. The jury foreman told Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler that the jury, comprised of 10 men and two women, could not reach a verdict and were hung 10-2. This was the second time the jury was hung in their eight-day deliberations. They had
previously been hung 7-5. The foreman did not say which way the jury was leaning. In order to convict Spector, the jury had to decide that he held the gun. With no fingerprints on the gun and no gunshot residue (GSR) on Spector’s hands or clothing, this was a hotly debated point. In order to acquit Spector, the jury had
to decide that Clarkson had shot herself. It was found that there was GSR on Clarkson’s hands and clothing. The prosecution, lead by prosecutor Alan Jackson, presented a case in which women from Spector’s past were called to testify. These four women all testified

Darrin Tuck, 26, arranged to surrender after evading arrest since Friday, said Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo. Prosecutors are set to formally charge Tuck with possession of child pornography and possibly promoting child pornography, DeMeo said. Tuck has told authorities he found the tape in the desert, but authorities said he possessed it for as long as five months before turning it in. He was arrested earlier this month in the case and released without bail pending a court appearance.

Club Spotlight: UNH Marching Band By HEATHER BROWN STAFF WRITER

WEST HAVEN— The University of New Haven Marching Band (UNHMB) has certainly grown since its inception on September 27, 2004. The UNHMB came about after students Robert Hughes and Jordan Byron noticed that the only instrumental performance group on campus was the Charger Pep Band. With the help of Bill Leete, then Vice President of Student Affairs, and
the overwhelming interest of the student body, the UNHMB was off and running and has not stopped since. The UNHMB has celebrated the addition of two new, exciting aspects to add to their performances. For the first time ever, there was a UNHMB band camp. The students involved with the marching band came to school early and practiced from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. throughout the threeday camp.
The marching band has also added a colorguard to enhance their show. Robert Hughes is especially happy to have a col-

cluding the firehouse which Jason works at. Of the many applications received by Red Bull, The Spooners are one of only 61 that were actually chosen to compete in this worldwide contest. Other Red Bull Soapbox contests have taken place in Australia, South Africa, Helsinki, St. Louis, Jamaica, Italy, and more. Prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place winners, and include a meetand-greet and VIP
party with NASCAR. Teams are judged on speed, creativity, and showmanship. All soapboxes must be human powered, meaning that no engines or external energy sources are allowed. The Spooners are beyond thrilled to be participating in this event, and hope many UNH students will help them out by donating or coming to the event. “Come out to support us; we would love to have support from our

with a particular industry or endeavor? What’s new? The people at LexisNexis have been working on the new release of this product for the past two years. Over the summer, the Marvin K. Peterson Library has migrated to the new LexisNexis interface. Everything that was in the old version of the product should be in the new version, with the exception of filings of incorporation and doing-business-as records, which now are handled as Public Records and are excluded from the academic product. Overall, there are two major ways that the database has changed: 1) The interface has been completely redesigned. The old product required more precise searching because each source had to be assigned to a search form. The new product has much greater flexibility in the way
that LexisNexis content may be accessed. 2) Many additional sources have been added to the new product. The specifics of these changes are described below within each of the individual modules. The five modes of searching- General Tab: LexisNexis provides the full text of major U.S. and world publications, blogs, TV and radio broadcasts and more. You may search for news by type of publication, such as newspapers or magazines, by state or country, or by topic. Drop-down lists enable you to select a specific source. You may also select ‘exclude from search’ and check what you do not want included in your search. This mode includes two search options: Easy Search and Power Search. LexisNexis is arranged into five main categories: General, News, Business, Legal, and People. What kinds of information can you find in LexisNexis? Here’s a sampling of the kinds of questions that can be answered within this database: How do I find a specific news story? How do I use law reviews as a guide to finding important legal cases? How do I find articles and case law related to a particular legal topic? How do I find the parent of a company? How do I compare companies? There are onscreen tools and popups that will help you with advanced features. News: Direct linking has been added for transcripts of several news programs on National Public Radio. This content was previously available only in the general NPR transcripts search on the Guided News form. All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Weekend Edition Saturday, and Weekend Edition Sunday are all available. The International Justice Tribune is a new addition. In addition to the French version of this title, the English translated source has been added. International Justice Tribune - English is the only English language newsletter that provides independent, professional coverage of the world of international justice. It is an online newsletter, created by four journalists who specialize in this field. The database contains reports on international criminal justice proceedings, particularly at the International
Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda and Former Yugoslavia. Legal: Based on overwhelming preferences from a survey administered over the summer, LexisNexis has changed the options offered in the way that cases may be searched. The new ‘Federal & State Cases’ form now allows users to select particular states. Previously you could only search by area of law and not at all geographically. You may still search cases by area of law, but now to do so use the Sources tab. In the Browse option, you will find a radio button for Area of Law at the top of the form. This takes you to appropriate sources such as Accounting Law, Administrative Law, etc. American Law Reports (ALR) and American Jurisprudence have recently been added to the Legal Module of LexisNexis. Shepard's Citations has expanded to cover all federal and state courts. Business: The business module is for finding corporate information and financial reports. New additions within business content include Company Dossiers, some Investext Analysts’ Reports and additional M&A info sources. Company Dossiers is a research tool regarding U.S. and international companies that allows students to compare up to five companies and download their financial statements. Company Dossiers to obtain comprehensive reports on companies during job searches. Another use is to track companies’ latest news and PR developments. People: Use this tab to find people associated with a particular industry, find elected officials, or look up obituaries. Some of these searches now use a search method called document section searching. All LexisNexis documents of a specific type are structured into common sections or segments. In addition to the full text search (where you may enter terms to search through the entire document), you can perform a search within specific document sections. This refines the search by only looking through a particular part of the document; e.g. the headline of a news article. Other common sections include byline (author), date, publication, and subject. To try out this database: Go to the library website at http://library.newhaven.edu/. Click on ‘Alphabetical List of Databases’ on the top-left of the library’s homepage. After entering the ID number on your campus card,Scroll down the alphabetical list and choose LexisNexis. There are tutorials available from within the database itself. USGA President’s Corner First Fall Open House This past Sunday the undergraduate admissions office hosted their first open house of the year. The event went very well and the admissions approximated that there were over 1,000 people in attendance. Prospective students and their families enjoyed continental breakfast in the morning and then heard President Kaplan speak shortly. This was followed by an information session about the school and a student panel which gave prospective students a student perspective regarding the university. They then broke into their respective colleges and then went back to the student center for a club fair and tours around campus. The event went very well and I want to thank the members of the A-Team for their hard work as well as all of the clubs and organizations who participated in the club fair. It’s nice to show prospective students how involved so many students are on campus. Now I would like to update you on a few concerns/issues that
Louis Eswood III USGA President have come up over the past week. With several different acts of violence across the country in the past few months, university security has become a national priority. The University of New Haven is currently on the cutting edge of technology with an emergency test messaging service that is available to all students free of charge. In the event of an emergency on campus, certain university administrators as well as campus police would be able to send out an emergency text message to all students. However, as great as the system is it can only be effective if students sign up for the service. I strongly urge all students to log onto the www.newhaven.edu/
campustext website and subscribe to the service. You can also receive traffic alerts and other university events if you choose but every registered student will receive the “emergency” messages. For the few seconds it takes to sign up, it may be worth it. This past week I received a few complaints regarding the parking situation in the New Hall Lot next to the construction trailer. I contacted Chief Starkel form Campus Police and asked him what the situation was with those three parking spaces since several students, including myself, have been blocked in by construction vehicles. Apparently there was a miscommunication between the construction company and Campus Police which led to students not being notified about parking in those spaces. Chief Starkel sent out an e-mail to all students advising them not to park there. So, to avoid getting another ticket, don’t park there!

that, at one point in their relationships with Spector, he had pointed a gun at them and had been threatening with little or no provocation. Prosecution also had Spector’s chauffeur at the time testify. He testified that, on the morning of February 3, 2003, Spector emerged from his house holding a gun and said “I think I killed somebody.” The defense, lead by Linda Kenny
Baden, presented a forensic case. The defense pointed out that the GSR was not on Spector, but on Clarkson and that blood spatter can travel up to six feet so it was not surprising that Spector had Clarkson’s blood on his jacket. Defense also presented theories about the trajectory of the bullet and position of the body. Testimony also suggested that Clarkson was falling apart because of severe depression and
thus could have taken her own life. Throughout the trial, no forensic expert for the prosecution could place the gun in Spector’s hand with certainty. The prosecution made no comment about whether Spector will be retried for Clarkson’s murder. Although the prosecution may not retry Phil Spector for the murder of Lana Clarkson, a court date has been set for Oct. 3. Page 5

The Courage to Lead Until this year, I was not involved in the undergraduate student government at all. So far, my involvement in the USGA has really opened my eyes. I have been a leader all my life. Usually, hide from leadership because I don’t like taking responsibility when something goes wrong. I’m still surprised I applied to be Editor-in-Chief. As a person that hides from leadership, I am in consistently in awe at the weekly USGA meetings. I am amazed that 20 people dedicate themselves to being senators. They are basically responsible for making decisions on behalf of the entire student body. I know that I would never have the cour-
age to put myself out there and represent such a large number of people. As the student newspaper, we provide a similar service as the senators: we bridge the gap between the university and students. Our influence was apparent this week when the Food Committee Chair, Rich Cannata, brought an

For the record, in my Sept. 19, 2007 Battery, I said, “Sometimes walking in on the workers bickering over this or that is quite pleasant. There are some serious problems with Sandella’s that need to be rectified…” Miss Grimmitt felt that I was too quick to criticize the workers. Where did I say, “The workers have no right to complain— they need to just shut up and serve us our food!” That’s right, I didn’t say that. She also says I shouldn’t be “shocked and appalled” at this natural
human behavior— where did I say I was shocked and appalled? Was she even reading The Charger Bulletin? What I did do was make what’s called an observation—the workers bicker, students notice it, it’s annoying. In the next line I say that these problems need to be rectified—if the problems are fixed, they won’t bicker. So I would not call what I said a criticism of the workers but a criticism and observation of the current state of Sandella’s. Miss Grimmitt also alludes that I am not being empathetic nor putting myself in the worker’s shoes. For this comment, she is completely wrong. I’d like to refer her to the October 11, 2006 edition of the news-

issue that was written about in the Charger Battery to food services and was able to make continental breakfast available before brunch on weekends. Before this occurred, I never realized that we can cause change here. While I was unaware of this fact, senators become senators for that very reason. They are the people that seek change. Now that I can actually see what they are doing for the student body, I have really grown to appreciate the senators. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and be a senator. We should all be thankful that 20 people are willing to represent us.

Diversity at UNH For centuries, people have referred to the United States as the melting pot of the world. People from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds, monetary status, and lifestyles meet together in this one location and, ideally, assimilate together to form a new culture. When I packed up for the first time to come to UNH as a freshman last year, I pictured college to be the most stereotypical melting pot of them all. However, the world is not that picturesque. Just as the melting pot reference to the United States has been realized to be nothing more than a cliché, the melting pot here on campus is even more so. We hold ourselves to the belief that we are an integrated culture of students that has combined the lifestyles and backgrounds of the people here to create something new and invigorating. In reality, in the quiet of the dorm rooms or the social aspect of the quad we see diversity, division, and a complete lack of understanding. There are the simple divisions: New England natives versus students from farther away. We speak differently, act differently, and have different views on right and wrong. Then there are those who are focused on academics and those who are focused on socialization. There is also the division between the involved students and those who would rather spend their time in dorm rooms. The events here on campus are normally filled
with the same handful of students every night, causing us to wonder: what happened to everyone else? Why is there such a difference between the students at an institution that praises its ability to bring all cultures and races together? Then there are the more complex divisions: the students that are considered upper class and those that are considered more middle class. When did being courteous and pulling your weight in a dorm room become a division of class instead of good manners? Until coming to the so-called melting pot of UNH, I was not aware that a society existed where those of a more privileged background were exempt from common household chores while those using student loans were left to do them. There are the divisions between students on a mentality basis too; when did having a quicker mind than the person next to you make you a better person? When did booing someone off stage become an appropriate way of welcoming someone to an institution? Maybe it is supposed to be that way. Maybe a melting pot is nothing more than a gigantic barrel of conformity, and our divisions here at UNH are nothing more than this generation’s stand against being the same. We have always been called the generation of change; maybe, just maybe, we’re changing away from something uniform into a society that lacks the ability to melt together.
Or maybe, deep down, it’s about something a lot different than that. The melting pot theory was developed because human beings, as a culture, are inclined to conform to those around them. We are inclined to speak the same, act the same, and essentially be the same as those around us, and yet it seems we come to college and only push these differences farther apart. Maybe it’s some sort of defensive mechanism to meeting new people and having to subject yourself to being in an entirely new environment. Maybe it is not a desire to be different that makes the divisions here at UNH so great, but a desire to not be ridiculed for being the first to reach out to someone who is a little different than you. To quote Shylock in Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, “If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh?” In a society where a little melting might make UNH a better place, it’s about time we listen to the words of one of the most underestimated characters of all time. We all bleed, we all laugh, and in the end, no matter how much we fear admitting it, we are all the same. As we enter October, drop the pretenses, the feelings of superiority, and start to learn from the people around you. Seven Habits of Highly Effective People Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is a very famous self-help book written by Steven Covey, and has sold more than 15 million copies in 38 languages worldwide. The success of this book influenced him to write a number of follow-up books, such as Power of the Seven Habits, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families, and Beyond the Seven Habits. The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness was published in 2004. Seven Habits is divided into three groups: the first three habits are called “Private Victories” and the next three habits are called “Public Victories”. The last habit is the habit of “Renewal.” Habit 1 – Be Proactive. Being proactive means taking responsibility for everything in your life. The difference between a proactive mind and a reactive mind is that a reactive mind blames other people and circum-
stances for obstacles or problems, while a proactive person take personal responsibility and initiative. Covey talks about 'Stimulus and Response.' Between Stimulus and Response, we have the power to choose the response. In this response lies our destiny. Habit 2 – Begin with the End In Mind. This habit asks us to set long term goals based on "truenorth principles." Formulation of a personal mission statement becomes very important as it helps one perceive one’s own purpose in life. We need to begin everything with the correct end in mind. When we begin with the end in mind, we get a direction to guide our daily activities, without which we would accomplish nearly nothing. Habit 3 – Put First Things First. To master Habit 3, we have to understand where we spend our time - and why we spend it there. Covey uses a fourquadrant matrix that

It is put forth that, when this is pursued as a habit, the result of the teamwork will exceed the sum of what each of the members could have achieved on their own. Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw. This habits starts with a story. A person was sawing down a tree. He was exhausted from working for hours. We suggest to him that he should take a break to sharpen the saw and he replied, “I don't
have time to sharpen the saw, I'm busy sawing!" Habit 7 is taking the time to sharpen the saw. By renewing the four dimensions of your nature - physical, spiritual, mental and social/emotional, you can work more quickly and effortlessly. To do this, we must be proactive. This is a Quadrant II (important, not urgent) activity that must be acted on. Mastering these seven habits is not something you can do in a night. Some people “try” to implement these habits, but if they are unsuccessful, they quit. As I discussed in a previous article, the opposite of success is not failure but quitting. vestigation for physically neglecting her two sons. And just last week, she was charged with a hit and run from August that could land her jail time. The series of events in Brit’s life in the past year comes as no surprise to me. After Sean Preston was born, we all knew she was not fit for motherhood. The biggest shame is that these boys are go-
ing to live in infamy for their mother’s actions. Celebrity children already grow up to be messed up as it is. I can’t imagine what Sean Preston and Jayden James are going to be like when they grow up. You know it has to be bad when life with Kevin Federline is going to be better for them.

In 2001, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals released a double disc called Live From Mars. This album colorfully displayed what the man and his band were capable of doing. Steering clear of letting his own tunes dominate
the set, Harper and his five Criminals performed covers of “Whole Lotta Love” and “Sexual Healing,” both intensely giving way to Harper’s soul as a vocalist, live act and human being. He feels the music like we touch the tangible. Connections are made and music is played damn well.

This musical versatility, playing Led Zeppelin and Marvin Gaye in the same night, perhaps stems from Harper’s wide range of tastes. “I like southern rock a lot,” reveals Ben to Surf magazine, “like Skynyrd and Government Mule.” He revels in musicians like Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix, citing them all as major influences. Infamously clever on slide guitar, I have still yet to hear a Hendrix-like solo from Ben Harper. Cliff and Marley, however, hold much presence on Harper’s new album Lifeline. Genres blend in the idiosyncratic bounce of 1970’s pop (“Say You Will”), and the album’s first single, “In the Colors,” which plays off of a hammock-worthy bass line and coolly jabbed barre chords. Lifeline bleeds liveliness without being overzealous; its mouth spews crafty lyricism instead of vomiting up clichés. The opener, “Fight Outta You,” has Harper moaning, “I would rather take a punch
than not give you a shot/I’d rather find out who you are than who you’re not.” The track is led by a rolling drum progression of bongos and a lone organ muffled like church censorship. As a personal feat, Lifeline is Harper’s most confident work. As a musical endeavor, it is Harper at his best. He speaks in the liner notes, “…your musical abilities are never as sharp or as heightened as when you’ve been consistently on the road.” Thus, going from their 2006 tour directly into a studio, Ben and the Criminals prove that statement to be nothing short of true. The only instrumental on the album, “Paris Sunrise No. 7,” is also the essential track on Lifeline. Listening to Harper showcase his dominance on slide guitar, two things come to mind. One, this kid has soul, albeit of a southern-soundingfolk-funk rocker. And two, you never need words or vocals to sing beautifully.

The final release of Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace was followed by much buzz and anticipation from two coastal promo-shows. The Foo Fighters played New York’s The Fillmore at Irving Plaza on Sept. 20, and Los Angeles at the Music Box on Sept. 24. The hype was created through much industry buzz by coastal stations KROCK (NY) and KROQ (LA) as well as fans participation all over the internet.

The sophomore album of the New Jersey, five-piece Steel Train provides a second look at their first album, and this time, the outlook is a bit sunnier. On Oct. 23, Drive-Thru Records will release Steel Train’s second fulllength album Trampoline. After releasing Twilight Tales from the Prairies of the Sun
in 2005, Jack, Scott, Evan, Dan, and John decided to return to the studio, taking the same sentiments that were poured into their debut album, and look at them a bit less despairingly. During their fall tour to promote Trampoline, I was able to get a quick word in with lead vocalist and guitar player, Jack. When asked if they’ve progressed since their last album, Jack feels as if

The album follows the release of their first live album Skin and Bones released in 2006 and their double album In Your Honor from 2005. The Foo Fighters joined with producer Gil Norton who helped propel the success of their most popular record, The Colour and The Shape from 1997. Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace can be noted as one of the Foo Fighters’ best records to date, and at this point the Foo Fighters really have nothing to lose.

NYACK, N.Y.—The University of New Haven women's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Nyack College, stretching their winning streak to eight in a row and improving their overall record to 11-2 this season. In the day's opener, UNH took out Holy Family University by a 3-2 score (20-30, 30-23, 25-30, 30-14, 15-9). In the second match, UNH swept

Each felony is punishable by up to five years in prison. In January, Vick was suspected of trying to carry marijuana through an airport in Miami. Vick was accused of carrying marijuana in a water bottle, but was later cleared by police of any wrongdoing. Police said the bottle smelled of marijuana and had a hidden compartment that contained a "small amount of dark particulate." Lab tests did not show any results of marijuana and Vick stated that he used the secret compartment in his water bottle to carry jewelry.

Halo 3 Reaches Gaming Consoles Everywhere

Halo 3 has finally made its debut on XBOX 360, becoming the highest selling media product ever, making $170 million in sales of the standard, limited, and legendary editions of the game. But despite the multiple commercials, the intense website, and the trailers foretelling the end of the world, one thing really comes to mind: Was
Halo 3 worth the hype? To answer that question, we obviously must play the epic saga known as Halo 3. Let’s talk about the game play and graphics first, so that no one has to worry about spoilers until the end. Game play works

Respected and beloved singer/songwriter Neko Case will see the re-release of her acclaimed 2006 album Fox Confessor Brings The Flood with the addition of a five-song bonus disc from Anti- on Nov. 6. The label will also serve up straight reissues of 2000’s Furnace Room Lullaby --which was recorded
as Neko Case and Her Boyfriends-- and 2002’s Blacklisted on the same date. Bonus material for the updated version of Fox Confessor will boast a previously unreleased demo version of the song “Behind The House,” plus a four-song sampler that includes fulllength versions of Blacklisted excerpts “Deep Red Bells” and “I Wish I Was The Moon,” plus the title
track from Furnace Room Lullaby and the album’s first cut “Set Out Running.” Originally issued on March 7, 2006, Fox Confessor Brings The Flood topped a myriad of the year’s “Best of” lists and has been unanimously praised. Entertainment Weekly called it “Her finest album” while Spin raved, “Her majestically outsize voice is one of pop music’s best.” Newsweek

are particularly influenced by The Mountain Goats, whose music is peppy, but lyrics are depressing. When asked about their time with DriveThru, Jack is very happy with the label. Although Drive-Thru did make them wait to get into the studio to make this album, he says “We wouldn’t have had half the record we do now if Drive-Thru hadn’t pushed us to wait.” From the second you hit “Play” the album takes off, and
leaves you with a carnival of new sounds, peppy music and telling lyrics. It’s a more artful sound than the usual Drive-Thru releases, and Steel Train certainly distinguishes themselves with Trampoline. Most definitely it’s an album to pick up and leave in your player for days at a time. Steel Train will also be visiting Connecticut during their promotional tour, playing Toquet Hall Student Coffeehouse on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7:00 pm.

thing to listen to when they aren’t with us. The small amount of new songs completes the album. More down-tempo songs such as “I Can’t Focus” show the band’s ability to play more than just catchy pop songs. Overall, the entire album is an amazing release. As for the wait, it was well worth it.

Marching Band Seeks Growth

9:00 p.m., during the football game’s halftime break. If interested in joining the UNHMB, students can check out the website at www. newhaven.edu/unhmb or contact them at marchingband@ newhaven.edu. The marching band rehearses on Fridays
from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the German Club. The marching band is the smallest since its inception. With the promise of a football team by 2009, it would be great to have a larger band to cheer on and support the team.

themselves. There were mixed opinions among the senior citizens who didn’t join the picket. One woman who was glad to see them go was Rita Jorgensen, 80. “It was disgusting the way people went after them. I think the senior center did

of the cases of food were stored in the cars of volunteers overnight and many had begun to mold before they were ready to be served. All officials agree that this issue shows the difficulty in making sure the senior citizens get the nutrition they need while mak-
ments, doesn’t exactly live up to the hype that Bungie gave us from day one. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the game and had a lot of fun playing, but to steal a quote from Tim Buckley of web-comic “CTRLALT-DEL,” I can’t help feeling like I’ve done this twice before. You know, Intro, kill Covenant, storyline, Forerunner technology is trying to be used by the Covenant, stop Covenant, fight Flood, etc. We’ve done it all
before. Sure, the storyline is a little different, as it is a sequel in a continued storyline, but nothing seems to change. Nothing is revolutionary about the game, besides some new weapons and multiplayer maps. (END OF SPOILER) All and all, Halo 3 brings some freshness to itself with new weapons and the return of old favorites, like the assault rifle from Halo: Combat Evolved. New vehicles make the mul-
