The 25th Pike Ice Fishing Derby Is Now One for the Books

O

n Saturday February 11th, over 700 anglers hit the ice in the hopes of reeling in a prizewinning fish at the Rotary Club of Chapleau Pike Ice Fishing Derby. Although the weather was mild, the wind was blustery and proved challenging to our intrepid anglers. Although there was no truck draw this year, the prize lineup most certainly made up for it. Roughly $80,000 in prizes were up for grabs and when all was said and done, there were some very happy anglers! Perhaps this prize lineup was responsible for the many out of town anglers that participated this year. Here are our prize winners: · 8th Place $500 – Spencer Smith · 7th Place $1000 – Andre Doyon · 6th Place $2500 – Jean-Louis Nicol · 5th Place $5000 – Ian Laughland · 4th Place $7500 – Keith Corston Jr. · 3rd Place $10,000 – Guy Paradis · 2nd Place $15,000 – Willie Desrocher · 1st Place Polaris Ranger 1000 Side by Side – Max Bertrand In honour of the 25th derby, two mystery prizes were awarded. The first mystery prize, a 2.5 hp Mercury outboard motor, was won by Dustin Bigras. His 3.27 pound pike was the closest to the mystery weight of 3.25 pounds. The second mystery prize, a Stihl battery operated chainsaw donated by Tracey Wetzl from Exit Realty, was won by Larry Moore. Larry brought in a 25 inch pike which matched our Long Term mystery length. There Forecast was also a prize awarded Thursday for the return of the flags.
