Volunteers acknowledged at Council Meeting

his year's Buddy Swanson Volunteer Regognition award winners were presented with plaques from the Township of Chapleau. One plaque went to Mrs. Lise Bernier, a long – standing Chapleauite. Her nominator described Lise as follows: "Lise represents all those Long Term women, most passed away, who gave thouForecast sands of hours to the Thursday High 17 betterment of the Low 10 Chapleau community. quite active in the Chapleau Cancer Society and helped organize "The Relay of Life" for many years. She helped raise awareness of cancer in the community. She was also active in the Chapleau Seniors' Club, Catholic Women's League and was an active motivator for crafts at local penny sales for fundraising. A second award went to a couple committed to improving our community over the years any way they could and can. This inclination was best summarized on the nomination form in this sentence: "Both Anne and Rheo believe in giving a discreet helping hand wherever help is needed because it is the thing to do." For 12 years they helped Minor Hockey
in numerous ways. Both were responsible for establishing and operating a one-week hockey school for the pre-season. Both are active in Sacred Heart Parish. Rheo spent years cutting, splitting, piling firewood for the Church and is also willingly on call when needed to feed the fire every 4 to 5 hours. Anne is a phenomenal fundraiser for the Church, Maison Boreal, Catholic Women's League and Chapleau Seniors' Club. Certificates of Appreciation were handed out to Lucy Ayotte, Mallory Bouchard, Julian Boucher, Gerald Brunette, Ann Morin, Pierrette Ouellette, Heather Richardson and Sylvie Rousseau for their dedication to the community.
