2025 - 2026 ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT CHANNEL ISLANDS YMCA

Dear YMCA Family and Friends,

MARGO BYRNE | CEO

This past year has been one we are truly proud of at the Channel Islands YMCA. Across our association, we continued to lean into what we do best, showing up for people, strengthening families, and creating spaces where everyone belongs. We saw meaningful growth in Youth & Family Services, including expanded housing and support for young people navigating some of life’s most challenging moments. These efforts reflect a continued focus on belonging and meeting real needs in our local communities. At the same time, this year reminded us just how generous and committed our YMCA community truly is. Our Annual Campaign reached a record‑breaking milestone, raising more than $1.5 million to support programs and services in our local communities. That support is already making a difference, opening doors, removing barriers, and allowing us to reach more people than ever before. Whether it’s youth housing, childcare, wellness programs, or support services, our community’s generosity is helping ensure that everyone who walks through our doors has the opportunity to thrive. As we look ahead, we do so with deep gratitude and optimism. None of this progress happens without the dedication of our staff and volunteers, the leadership of our board, and the generosity of our donors and partners. Thank you for believing in the mission of the YMCA and for investing in the well‑being of our local communities. Together, we are building something meaningful and lasting, and we are excited for what comes next. Sincerely, Margo and Ken

FUTURE LEADERSHIP I got closer with people I would have never met...

When I first joined Youth and Government, I didn’t know too much about government but still wanted to learn more about what the government does and how people can have an impact in everyday life. I learned so much more when going to Sacramento, and had fun meeting a bunch of new people and getting out of my comfort zone. I got closer with people I would have never met and was able to express myself knowing people are inter‑ ested in similar topics as I was.” BEN | YOUTH & GOVERNMENT YMCA DELEGATE FOR ST. GEORGE YOUTH CENTER

Research indicates that when adolescents participate in early civic engagement, they are more likely to pursue higher education and remain civically engaged in early adulthood.1 1: Chan WY, Ou SR, Reynolds AJ. BRIGHT FUTURES The YMCA was there for my daughter during the toughest time in her little life.

My daughter Melissa loves the YMCA! She says her favorite part of the YMCA is all the crafts and drawing she gets to do there. They provide her with a snack and drink when she gets there, and she gets to play games outside. We have been going through a rough time because Melissa’s father is in prison. She has days where she really misses her dad or it translates to really missing me. The YMCA staff have helped her through these strong emotions. When she cries and gets very upset, they provide her a quiet corner and time by herself. One day, when she was very upset, Miss L took Melissa aside and shared her experience about her own father going in and out of jail when she was Melissa’s age. It helped Melissa calm down and gave her a perspective that she isn’t alone in this situation. It meant so much to me that the YMCA was there for my daughter during the toughest time in her little life.” MARIA | MOM AT LOMPOC FAMILY YMCA

COMMUNITY With stability, compassion, and consistent support, lives can change course.

On Mission Street in Santa Barbara, a modest house is doing something extraordinary. Behind its doors, young adults ages 18 to 21, many carrying more responsibility than anyone their age should have to bear, are given something that can feel out of reach: a safe, steady place to land. The Youth & Family Services (YFS) Mission House is now open for young people who are stepping into adulthood without the safety net many of us take for granted. With stability, compassion, and consistent support, lives can change course. The Mission House offers exactly that: a chance to pause, breathe, and begin again. Made possible by generous donors, this new home strengthens the YFS continuum of care alongside the Haley Street Navigation Center, Lyons House, and Noah’s Anchorage. This is community in action. Through YFS, Mission House offers more than shelter; it offers belonging. Residents receive educational support, employment guidance, and life-skills development, alongside the steady presence of caring professionals who show up day after day to listen, encourage, and help them keep going. Young adults can stay for up to 18 months at no cost, giving them precious time to heal, set goals, build independence, and begin to see a future not defined by what they’ve endured, but by what they can become.

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA® San Luis Obispo County YMCA

It feels like home. It feels like family.

The San Luis Obispo County YMCA is now offering LIVESTRONG® AT THE YMCA, a free program designed to help cancer survivors regain strength, confidence, and community during and after treatment. For participants, the program has already become much more than exercise. “When I first came into the LIVESTRONG program, we all connected really quickly and really easily,” Diana said. “It feels like home. It feels like family.” Many described the emotional and physical challenges that came with cancer, including fatigue, isolation, and uncertainty. “I felt like I was alone here in San Luis,” one survivor said. “But when I came here, I found out there were people just like me.” Through supportive trainers, group workouts, and shared experiences, participants say the program has helped them rebuild both physically and emotionally. “You’re going to get so much out of it,” one participant said. “Not just physically, but emotionally.” BERNITA, MICHELLE, DIANA | LIVESTRONG® PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

Cancer survivors that participated in LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA are nearly 3X MORE LIKELY to engage in weekly exercise that prolongs life.1 1: Irwin ML, Cartmel B, Harrigan M, Li F, Sanft T, Shockro L, O’Connor K, Campbell N, Tolaney SM, Mayer EL, Yung R, Freedman RA, Partridge AH, Ligibel JA. Effect of the LIVESTRONG® AT THE YMCA exercise program on physical activity, fitness, quality of life, and fatigue in cancer survivors. Cancer. 2017 Apr 1;123(7):1249-1258. doi: 10.1002/cncr.30456. WAT E R S A F E T Y Once she was in the water, she was so happy and confident...

This was my daughter’s first Stage 1 class after participating in the parent/child classes. She had expressed that she was ready and excited for this stage and to swim with an instructor, but she only went into the pool for half of the classes. Once she was in the water, she was so happy and confident led by Barbara's knowledge and ability to interact and connect with kids (of various ages). Even when my daughter did not go in, Barbara was great at guiding us not to push her to go in if she didn't want to and to let her go in at her time and pace to make sure that we don't create a bad experience/connection with swimming.” SAMMY | PARENT AT SANTA BARBARA FAMILY YMCA

Letters from Learn to Swim Students at Camarillo Family YMCA ABOUT THE LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM Learn to Swim is a free YMCA program that teaches water safety and swim skills to kids who might not otherwise have access to lessons. Instructors use fun, engaging games like ‘Chicken, Airplane, Rocket,’ where kids strike silly poses to learn the arm movements of the backstroke. They also practice essential water safety skills, including how to rescue a friend with a pool noodle, exit the pool safely, and float in the water.
