Theology: We are finishing up our study of the great King David and his son, King Solomon. There will be a Unit 4 Test when we finish chapter 20. Then on to the last unit of the year: Prophets Prepare the Lord’s Way. Yes, we will finish the book as the boys have to be ready for seventh grade and the study of the New Testament! Our spiritual journey has been so enjoyable! A big thank you from Our Little Haven for your generous contributions. Over $3200 was donated to fulfill our class mission/service project. Leadership: Practice has paid off as I expect the majority of the class to attain 30 wpm with 90% accuracy! Check the homework calendar for due dates. The next project will use the software application Adobe Spark Video. The counselors will give a pesentation on the topic of bullying. The data from the counselors and examples from the summer reading, Wonder, will provide the students with information to create a timely and informative presentation on the subject of bullying and why Chaminade is so proactive against it.

This month we have been focusing on Percents! The boys have been hard at work converting between percents and fractions as well as beginning to use their mental math ability to quickly estimate percents of numbers. Lots of applications of percents are coming up, especially with money $$$. Don't forget about your first percent quiz on Thursday this week!

Students will continue reading PEAK, by Roland Smith ... at least 3 essay topics will accompany themes and events from the exciting novel about climbing Mount Everest. Students will also continue with Vocabulary Workshop Units as we wrap up the entire workbook by completing Units 13, 14, and 15 in April and May. Perhaps too ambitious on my part, but we will do our best to read and write about yet another novel as the school year wraps up: "My Side of the Mountain," by Jean Craighead George. Hopefully, the boys have noticed the emphasis on nature, survival, wildlife, and outdoor adventures in the sixth grade literature choices this year. All of these novels are intended to prepare the students for the trip to Jackson, Wyoming, and the Grand Teton National Park region. Dr. Guidry, Mr. Twellman, and Mr. McCoy are committed to making sure that trip will happen during the students' Chaminade middle school years.

This month we will continue our study of ancient Rome. After learning about the history and politics of the Roman Republic and Roman Empire we will take a look at daily life in ancient Rome. Students will be researching various Roman buildings and structures to learn about their importance in ancient Rome and the influence they had on future civilizations. Students will not only be writing a three paragraph essay on their topic, but will also create a presentation and a scale model in Minecraft Education Edition. These projects will be completed in early May. More information will be posted in Canvas soon!

Everything is going well! This is the final push of the semester! In STEM, we will start our final unit, Logic Gates. Please continue to turn in your work on time!

PE: We are all very thankful we are able to return to outdoor sports and doing our cardio work at the track. We will be working on getting a better mile time for the rest of the spring. We will have a timed run in May. We are going to be playing baseball this week and next the boys may bring a glove, please no bats. When the boys bring in items of clothing and sports equipment please make sure it marked with their name. Finally, if your son has allergies or asthma, please make sure they are taking the proper medication to continue participating.

6th grade artists have gotten the opportunity to work with clay. They made pinch pots and colored their pieces with terra sigillata – a refined slip. They will be adding a final clear glaze to their pieces next week. Recently we completed our tissue paper paintings and will begin critiques this week. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
Theatre

Students are working creating a Costume Bible, designing costume pieces and conceptualizing a stage production for a story of their choice. We will work on these Costume Bibles for the next several classes before presenting our work to the class. Following the Costume Bible, students will continue to learn about technical theatre with props and stage makeup. Next week, our Middle School actors will present the play "A Lonely Boy's Guide to Survival (and Werewolves)". This play will be streamed on demand - see more details on Canvas. Tickets are free to CCP students! Students should also start thinking about their Drama Final, which is due the last week of class in May. Students are asked to watch a play and write a one page review on their thoughts. Information and links to productions can be found on our Module page.

On Friday, April 9 we held our Annual Middle School Career Day. This year, our teachers and other staff members graciously volunteered to present to the boys on their previous jobs and the life lessons learned from them. It was a great day and a big thanks to our presenters for making it a huge success!
With a little over a month until Final Assessment Week, be sure to stay on top of your assignments and turn in any missing work starting now. We are almost there! Keep working hard and let me know how I can assist! If you're looking for any help outside school, contact me for resources.
