April Edition
Math

We are finishing the current chapters on Percents and Polynomials next week. No points are taken off for late work, but it will not be accepted after the test. The quality of the time spent on work outside of class seems to be diminishing for many students since the weather has gotten nicer. We might want to ramp that up for a good finish to the school year.
Science

Since Easter, we have been studying the Urinary System. We will have a test on that shortly then cover the last two units of the year: puberty and the reproductive system.
Theology

We're finishing up our study of St. Paul and the Acts of the Apostles this week. We'll be having our test on this Unit Next week Monday and Tuesday. There is a practice test for the students to work through and we will have our dedicated test review day on Wed and Thursday. Our final Unit will be about the Book of Revelation, where we will learn about how Mass ties into our lives and history, the Fall of Jerusalem in AD 70, and what many of the symbols in the Book of Revelation point toward.

For the remainder of the year, students are getting a sneak peak of their online textbook for next year. We will be skimming through the first several chapters of Cambridge Latin Course Book 1, and next year, they will begin Book 2. In the last week of April, they will have a test over stages 1-6.
Chinese

In April we will talk about what people likes as a hobby and describing a person's appearance, such as tall/short, skinny/fat, young/old etc., and how their hair looks like. The story that we will read is Mavis; we will learn how Mavis is trying to change herself to please others, but in fact, she is simply the best just for being herself.

We are starting a new chapter that covers the verb gustar (to like). While reading their second novel "Brandon Brown quiere un perro," the students will see this irregular verb demonstrated in a story entirely written at a Spanish 1 level. Continue to check under "Today's Lesson" on Canvas to see what assignments need to be completed, especially the scheduled Zoom time when online learning. There are only a few chapters left! Email me with any concerns/questions.
Social Studies

We completed our section on Russia and E. Europe and we are now jumping to the Far East and will learn about China, Japan, and the Koreas.
Theatre

Students are putting the finishing touches on their Sketch Comedy Video projects. These have been such fun to work on and film! Students will share their videos in class, and then end the project with a Self and Peer Reflection Paper. Next, we will read the play "Holes" by Louis Sachar and learn about scenic design. Students will wrap up the year with the much anticipated Minecraft Set Design project! Next week, our Middle School actors will present the play "A Lonely Boy's Guide to Survival (and Werewolves)". This play will be streamed on demand - see more details on Canvas. Tickets are free to CCP students! Students should also start thinking about their Drama Final, which is due the last week of class in May. Students are asked to watch a play and write a one page review on their thoughts. 7th grade visual art students are beginning their critiques of the “What shape am I?” drawings that they have completed. The students blended colors and are applying what they learned from creating the color wheel. They are continuing to progress and develop their skills. We will have an opportunity to work with clay in the upcoming weeks. Keep up the good work gentlemen!

With a little over a month until Final Assessment Week, be sure to stay on top of your assignments and turn in any missing work starting now. We are almost there! Keep working hard and let me know how I can assist! If you're looking for any help outside school, contact me for resources. On Friday, April 9 we held our Annual Middle School Career Day. This year, our teachers and other staff members graciously volunteered to present to the boys on their previous jobs and the life lessons learned from them. It was a great day and a big thanks to our presenters for making it a huge success!
